The shadow remained where he was, sprawled across the cool stone, struggling to ensure a laugh did not escape him. He did his best to control his breathing and give off the appearance of being defeated, even though he knew his children would fall for it no matter how poor of an actor he was. Their firstborn son prodded at the shadow first, his small voice demanding as he tried to get a response out of the fallen king. Their russet boy’s voice came next, ushering a hasty apology to Kyna, before Capra’s shrill voice entered the mix. The latter pushed his forehead against the ebony Archer in attempt to get him to his feet, but Greer wasn’t ready to give up that easily. He waited for a few moments longer, allowing a veil of silence to follow over them before he leapt to his paws, a wide grin tugging at his lips as his paws reached for the closest pup—Vindlys—in an attempt to scoop him closer to his chest.
Kyna watched quietly as the trio of children seemed perplexed by their temporary success – reactions ranging from confusion to irritation – but she did not step in. It was Greer’s game, after all, and she was sure it was only one of many ‘confusing’ scenarios the boys would encounter in their first few months of life. She only smiled as she was demanded to fix it and was about to make a suggestion when her mate suddenly sprung to life, scooping up his nearest victim.
“Oh no!” she gasped with mock horror. (Her wagging tail gave her away.) “He’s got Vindlys! What ever will we do?”
The tawny tyke didn't like the feel of this. Ma was explaining in a tone that exemplified bad and thus forcing Lance to assume that they he had done something bad. Something was wrong and he could feel it inside his tiny heart. With Vindlys crawling on top of him to grapple at their father, Lance huffed - brows furrowing in a small fit of frustration.
Only upon Greer's sudden and super quick movement did Lance jump slightly and realize that his brother had been swooped in for what was a gnarly gnab. It was clear now that this was all play, as though Lance had never been scared at all and was in fact playing this entire time. Lance immediately moved in to rabbit-bounce at Greer's front paws, let 'em go let 'em go! he pronounced, desperate to retrieve his brother and do as much damage as he needed to to rescue his brother from the fierce paws of their father.
At first he remained with his paws wrapped around his ebony son, his chin tucked over the small boy’s body in an attempt to stifle his frantic attempt at escaping. But Lance was quick to jump into action, his forepaws pouncing at Greer’s in a desperate attempt to have his brother released. For a moment the Archer restrained himself from releasing little Vinny from his clutches, but eventually he obliged to his tawny son’s requests. A wicked, lopsided grin was perched neatly across his dark features as he gave the agouti boy a soft nudge. Come, he instructed his family with a flick of his nose, snack time. Without another word his three sons sprinted in the direction of the closest cache, their little paws pedaling over the rocky terrain. He chuckled to himself as he gave his mate a soft kiss to the check before they trotted after the Borealis Boys…
