Kerberos Rigel
for @Lacey (others tagged for knowledge purposes)

Kerb found himself a bit sleepy that day. The soft pitter patter of rain outside of the den had him feeling rather content. He likely should go check on the other litter within the Draw. @Cannon, @Suka and @Lana to see how they were doing. Kerb carefully scratched his ear as he thought about it. Perhaps Lacey would like to come with him and give @Maera some time to do whatever she needed. He figured he might do it this evening to have the rascals get some energy out before bed. He was positive Treyah would appreciate him taking over watch for a bit. She was extremely hands on with the children and he needed to properly thank her better.

He stretched just slightly before slowly moving out of the den into the soft rain. Lately, Lacey had been seeming to take a liking to lately. Kerberos always kept a watchful to make sure it wasn't too rainy for her to be romping out for hours or that she wasn't trying to cuddle with the new parents caked in mud. He shook out his fur before he moving to a nearby puddle. Truthfully, the fill-in leader had no idea why his daughter loved them so much but he supposed it was better she loved them rather than fear them.

Lacey Rigel

At the tender age of almost a month and a half, Lacey was beginning to drift away from her prelapsarian lifestyle. Her personality was more apparent by the day: she was headstrong as her mother and proud as her father, and unafraid to show either of these things to the world. Her curiosity brought her in contact with hundreds of new things a day—just that morning she'd made friends with a ground mantid, then grew bored of its raptorial appendages and ate it—and each new experience made her bolder. Already she was constantly trying to go out of bounds, but the watchful eyes of the pack kept her contained to the den area... for now. She was rambunctious and eager to get out there.

So when Kerberos unfolded himself from his position in the den and headed out, Lacey was practically underfoot. Her tall ears perked as the hush of rain grew to a steady beat and her tail switched pleasantly behind her as she stretched and yawned, pink tongue curling toward her nose. With a gentle shake, the ebullient Rigel scampered toward Kerberos and ducked between his legs, shooting forward into the puddle with a squeal of laughter.

It only took about twelve seconds for Lacey to drop her shoulder to the water and roll, soaking her coat thoroughly with murky rainwater, and she blinked up at her father's muzzle with bright blue eyes and squeaked out an extremely contrary, oopsie! because of course she'd meant to get all dirty.

Kerberos Rigel

It came as only a little bit of a surprise when his daughter shot out from between his legs. Yellow eyes watched as she headed for the nearest puddle. Then and there Kerberos knew she would make a mess but he didn't stop her. So far, no harm had come from her messes. Her tiny "oopsie" was met with a warm smile and raised brow. The father crouched and moved forward towards the puddle. Once he was close enough he dipped his paw in and gave the tiniest of splashes before looking to his daughter's face. Obviously, he was curious if she would follow suit and splash about or if she might not be pleased with this. Granted she had liked her own snot bubble so Kerberos was hoping it was the first option.

He laid down with his stomach against the damp earth. The tawny father saw no harm in playing around with Lacey for a bit. Surely Maera would wish for them to both have baths but that wasn't all that bad. "Would you like to play, Lacey?" Kerberos figured that since she had come shooting out of the den she perhaps wanted to romp about and burn off some energy.

Lacey Rigel

Part of her immediately regretted her decision to roll in the puddle. Wetness seeped through the soft layers of her downy coat and reached the sensitive young skin beneath, sending an instant chill through her. If she was a daintier or more frail creature, Lacey might have sought warmth and comfort following her dip, but she was made of stronger stuff. Though it was uncomfortable, she didn't mind being wet. Her tail continued whipping back and forth as she collected herself from the puddle, sending drops of water flying in every direction as he pranced around to face her father.

She spun just in time to catch a blast of water to the face. The splash was small and mild in Kerberos' world, but in the world of a small cub, it was enough to drench her from nose to ears. Spluttering indignantly, the little Rigel went still until she could regain her breath, and then she met her dad with a challenging scowl. The corners of her lips couldn't hide her grin as she romped toward her sire, kicking up water as she went. The splashes were hardly more than flicks, but Lacey sure tried!

P'ay! the youngster emphatically responded, ears flared tall and tail wagging as she regarded Kerberos with a mix of excitement and admiration.

He chuckled as he watched his Little L give him a rather challenging looking scowl. Kerberos knew her splashes wouldn't be huge but he was more than willing to play along. "Oh no!" He smiled and partially turned his head away. "Such big splashes, Lacey!" When in reality he was only getting some droplets on his muzzle and legs. The father couldn't stop the soft chuckle that fell forward from him. He truly felt blessed with Lacey. She was always so lively and despite her sometimes overly rambunctious behavior, the Rigel male wouldn't trade it for the world or even the whole universe.

His tail eagerly waved behind him as he heard her proclaim "P'ay!". Dark, damp nose reached out to very softly bump her crown before he bounded off only a few feet. He hoped she would understand his initiation of a little game of tag. Kerberos' tail still wagged behind him as his head looked over his shoulder at his child. He had no intentions of leading her far from the den but at least far enough for her to be worn out some. The male Rigel wouldn't mind if he had to carry her back to the den after their little game of tag.
