Grizzly Hollow as right as rain

It was the first time that their mother allowed them out of the den, into the Out There, something Merida had been itching to get out and scamper around in as soon her little ears popped and she could hear all sorts of interesting things just outside her reach! Vaguely she was aware of her mother coming and going on occasion, leaving to go Out for what felt like forever before she came back to curl around herself and her brother. Even the faint outlines and blurry light she could see from inside the den drew her puppy curiosity towards the entrance, waddling as best she could but before she made it far, her mother merely would chuckle before catching her.

But now, her mother had given her a little nudge, gently murmuring it was time to go Out! Mouse was too sleepy to go with Merida, who toddled after their mother as best she could on her little legs. Once the pup was out, her eyes were squinted as something fell from above, nearly hitting her. What the...? Was something attacking her?

Small droplets of water rained down on Merida and she yelped as one landed right on her snout as she reeled back into the den from the feeling of the raindrop hitting her, though she yet understood what was going on. How dare! This was her first trip outside and she was going to allow this this, cold wet thing to dampen her spirits! So gathering her courage, as her mother seemed just fine beyond the entrance and was seemingly happy, judging from the noises she was making, the girl marched right out to her.

"Come on Meri," She heard her mother say, her tone light as she tried to hide her chuckles from the girl as she attempted to encourage the girl out. Her mother was only a few feet away from the entrance, watching carefully but knowing that the rain wouldn't hurt her child. Making it to the taller wolf, Merida smiled up proudly at her mother. "That's my girl." Amaryllis bent down and grazed her nose on Merida's forehead before giving her a gentle kiss. The pup happily accepted the gestures, her tail and back half wagging before trying to raise up on her hind legs and give her mother a kiss back. Only for her, in all her puppy gracefulness, to tumble right back down. She pouted as she heard her mother laugh, a sound Merida knew was a happy one but right now, she wasn't happy it was directed at her.

"Oh sweetie you're alright." Meri kept pouting until she remembered the things falling from the sky. Despite having briefly forgotten about the wet Things, Meri wasn't completely sure what to make of the Wet Things yet so decided it was best to play it safe and as quickly as she could, the pup got back up on her paws and was under her mother, using her a protection from the Wet Things.

But she did peer out and watch them fall to the ground, curious as it what they were, huffing slightly as her mother spoke. She wasn’t quite sure what her mother was saying but she wasn’t gonna trust them again anytime soon.

After a few weeks of being cooped up in the den, Amaryllis figured it was time for the pups to go outside, even if it was early morning and there were patches of rain coming and going. Yet even gently trying to wake them, it was only Merida who bounced into action and trotted happily after her mother. Amaryllis wasn’t going to push Mouse into coming out if he didn’t wish too or in this case, was still far too sleepy to follow them out into the cold. And honestly, Amaryllis didn’t blame her son.

But Meri was excited now and so she nudged the little pup, murmuring it was time to go out and stepped a few feet outside the den, looking back at her daughter. Just in time to see her daughter poke her nose out and almost instantly get hit by a raindrop.

It sent her reeling back into the den, making her nearly laugh.

“Come on Meri,” She instead called out, trying to mask her laughter, eyes watching as Meri peeked out again, as if trying to make her mind up before the girl marched right up to her with a proud smile on her muzzle as the girl looked up at her mother. Amaryllis’s heart swelled at the sight of her, making her smile back at her and say “that’s my girl.” before bending down to give her daughter a kiss on the head.

She nearly laughed again when Merida tried to return the favour, making herself tumble back onto the ground.

“Oh sweetie, you’re fine.” Managing to kerb her laughter, she soothed her daughter upon seeing the tell tale signs of a pout gracing the little one’s face. But whatever it was bothering her, Meri seemed to remember it was raining and scampered underneath her. “It’s okay Meri, it’s just rain.” Amaryllis told her daughter, tilting her head back to look up at the sky. “Nothing to worry about, unless you stay out too long.” A small huff came from Meri, as if the drop hitting her before offended her greatly and she didn’t care.

Amaryllis snorted. Perhaps she should have waited till the rain cleared before bringing Merida out.

After her incident with the small dark boy she had rather kept to herself. Content to gather plants or busy herself with patrols. Often times she'd find herself mindlessly doing tasks. Messing up and redoing tasks just to keep herself busy till the nightfall. It was a rather easy life to live. If she had company it was usually in a bird's call or Veho for lessons.

Today she was determined to be a bit social. Checking in on Amaryllis and perhaps even @Oula later on. The small girl carefully moved towards where Amaryllis' den should be. She was not as speedy and energetic as she might be. Instead, she moved at a slow trot as dirty yellow eyes scanned the area. Oisin knew she should be close now. Then the sound of talking grabbed her attention and was an obvious sign that she was indeed closing in.

As she passed a few more cedar trees she could see the mother and one of the children. She lowered herself and gave a smile whine in case the mother hadn't spotted her yet. It was a peculiar time for one of the children to be toddling about but she assumed that Aegir had been yelling at the thunder when she found him. Perhaps the children wanted to be in the rain more than she knew.

When a small whine entered her ears, Merida nearly leapt out of surprise and while still under the protection of her mother, spun around to look at tawny wolf as she peered out around her mother's legs in curiosity. She had similar markings on her face, just like Mama, which made her even more curious about the other wolf. did all wolves have them? Because so far, in little Merida's head, at least two wolves had the same ones.

Scrambling towards the other, because she had little interaction of other wolves outside her mother and brother, Merida seemingly ignored her curious hatred of the rain and plopped right down in front of Oisin.

Tiling her head to the side, Merida looked at the other in confusion. Who was this other wolf? And why did she have markings just like Mama? Being a pup, the girl had no concept of scars just yet and figured they were just like the dark markings on her mother's coat.

'”whoooo?” the little girl hooted at Oisin, copying a word she had heard her mother say on occasion and that felt right to say right now, though she drew it out a little longer then was needed.

As she heard a small whine, Amaryllis swung her head around to spot Oisin crouched nearby. Yet Merida beat her to greeting the other wolf, toddling over to Oisin and staring up at her face.

Chuckling, Amaryllis turned to face Oisin properly.  She knew the tawny girl wouldn't hurt her daughter so was fine with her being so close to Merida.

“Oisin, this is Merida.” Amaryllis introduced the pup to her before she gestured to the entrance to the den. “Her brother, Mouse is asleep at the moment.” And she was going to continue letting him sleep, though she felt a little worried he might be getting cold without her and Merida to cuddle up to. “Do you mind watching Meri for a moment? I’m just going to check he's not getting too cold.” Even though it was warming,since winter had finally given up its grip, the patchiness of the rain had cooled the night considerably, both Mouse and Meri were still small and she didn't wish for her children to catch a cold because they weren't warm enough.

So feeling that Meri was safe with Oisin for a few moments, Amaryllis vanished into the den to check her other child.

Oisin's eyes widened as the child came right for her. She felt nervous but when the child seemed content to plop in front of her, the healer let out a soft sigh. Her ears flicked softly as the young one seemed to imitate an owl when asking who she was. Before she could answer Amaryllis seemed to do it for her. "Oh, of course. I'll keep an eye on this one." Oisin took a seat in front of the child named Merida.

"I'm Oisin." She told the child with a kind smile, unaware if she had caught it when her mother had said it. "It's very nice to meet you, Merida." The young healer's tail swayed behind her against the forest floor with ease. She wasn't really sure what to do with the child this time. The mother was here and very much was aware of Oisin's presence and Merida didn't seem hungry which meant that she wouldn't have to deal with harsh nips at her stomach or whines of frustration.

She lowered herself carefully into a laying position in front of the child so she would be more on her level. Not that Oisin was a very big wolf already. Her eyes shimmered with excitement despite the nerves that ran through her body.

Cross my heart and hope for better days

Merida barely noticed what her mother said or what she was doing, her full attention on this new wolf. She was interesting and new enough for her to forget entirely about the rain and Merida wanted to know just who she was. Her mama seemed to know her, judging by the tone she had when speaking with her, even if the words went over her head completely.

The wolf introduced herself, saying a word Merida had never heard before, causing her head to tilt as she continued to stare at her.

“Ooi, oooos ooss, osssn.” Frowning as she tried to wrap the word around her tongue, Merida pouted upon finding out it was much harder for her to say. “Oi, oi!” She finally settled on after several moments of trying to say the woman’s name before becoming impatient and simply shouting the first part of her name. That’s what the woman was called, Oi Oi! This caused Amaryllis to pop her head out at her daughter’s call and start laughing once she realized what was happening. Yet Merida didn’t care. She was having fun.

“Oi Oi!” She exclaimed again, bouncing around when she heard her mother’s laughter. “Mama, Oi Oi!” Bounding over to her mother, she nearly ran into her legs but managed to catch herself just in time. “Oi Oi!”

Checking on Mouse wasn’t hard, he still laid curled up where she had left him and after giving him a gentle kiss, nudged some furs closer to him. Just to make sure. But she still had another child to take care of and Amaryllis popped her head out of the den when she heard Meri shouting, thinking that maybe she was getting angry at the rain again. Or perhaps that she was yelling at Oisin for some strange reason. But no, she was staring at Oisin still, shouting “oi, oi!” She couldn’t help but laugh at at her daughter’s antics. The girl must have heard Oisin say her name and tried to copy it.

“I do apologize Oisin, she’s still learning.” the mother told the healer, hoping she wasn’t too offended by Merida’s butchering of her name. Merida started bouncing around, shouting Oi Oi as if it was her new favorite word. “Star’s above know she and her brother are going to have a mouthful if and when they try my name.” Watching her daughter as she bounded towards her, Amaryllis was ready to catch her because it looked like the girl was about to run into her legs. But Merida managed to catch herself, beaming up proudly at her mother as she said “Mama, Oi Oi!” Amaryllis chuckled as Merida's tail wagged excitedly behind her. “Oi oi!”

“I believe you’re stuck with the name for now, I’m sorry Oisin.”
