Romanov Archer

This whole exploring thing was really not for him and yet he had found himself outside of his home. He was old enough to find his way back home alone but that didn't mean he wanted to. It was scary out here and after hearing the horrendous call of an elk not too long ago he was nervous about what other bellowing creatures laid about. His tail lashed about him as amber eyes squinted.

Romanov wanted to bring something home to at least show for his unwanted exploration. He wasn't that good at the whole hunting thing but maybe he could bring back something else. Maybe a nice flower or some pretty stones. Anything to perhaps loosen up any scolding that might happen once he turned himself back around.

He looked up at the sky to try and see where the sun was. Clouds covered most of the sky making it a difficult task. "Uhmm." The boy softly mused as his weight shifted on his paws. Couldn't be too late in the day, could it? Romanov really didn't think he had been gone that long. He wondered what everyone was doing back at home right now. Adeltra? Elle? His cousins and parents? The young Archer hoped they were having more fun than him.

Kyna Argyris Archer

Revon had wandering paws – quite possibly a case worse than the alpha had when she was a youngster.  The corner of her mind was quite aware it was likely Greer who’d passed this trait on to their daughter; she couldn’t blame the girl, though.  She had no siblings, and unlike Kyna’s own childhood, there were no other puppies for her to spend her time with on the heights.  And so it fell to the parents to try and curb this wandering intent – today, the fiery redhead decided to take the young Archer down the slopes, towards the willows.

She’d been there before, when she was very young – had made friends with Niles even though she’d been looking for her shadowy friend.  If Revon could make friends with the ridge’s puppies, perhaps she’d be less inclined to travel further than was necessary, and for a girl of her age, this wasn’t too bad.

Kyna bounced over a fallen log, pausing as the ground began to even out.  It felt strange; she hadn’t been off her mountainside in so long.  The idea of trees being odd made her smile, and she glanced back to make sure her smudge was still following along.  “We aren’t too far, Revon – would you like to race?”

There was nothing wrong with the mountain she called home. She adored the steel-like terrain and erratic landscape. Even as she studied the forests below from the Heights she had no desire to call the sea of green home. How could one observe the stars or chase the clouds with so many leaves in the way? It was a fun place explore, as it was all unfamiliar territory to the little fox, but it paled in comparison to the Heights. Without any littermates (or age-mates) to play with Revon spent a lot of her time exploring, as while enchanting as the mountain was, it could also grow quite dull if she spent too much time behind the pack borders. She tried not to stray too far, as she hated worrying her parents, but sometimes she could not stop her oversized paws as they carried her down the mountain into the unknown.

Today, however, Revon was accompanied by her mother. It had been Kyna’s idea to visit the willows and Revon would have been foolish to protest. She had always kept to the eastern side of the mountain, visiting the dark forest that gnawed hungrily at the mountain’s base. The west remained unexplored—for the most part. It was remarkably different that the east; brighter. It wasn’t completely horrendous.

… would you like to race?

Her ears twitched as she turned to her mother, brows narrowing mischievously. Uh, duh. Without giving verbal confirmation the girl leapt forward, streaking past her mother. “Jus’ try ’n keep up!” She called over her shoulder before setting her fiery gaze on the thin trees ahead, determination fuelling her growing legs…

He was awkwardly shuffling around when he could have sworn he heard something. Large ears raised up towards the sky as he tried to figure out just what it was that he had heard. Amber eyes squinted firmly as he carefully crept forward. It was a dangerous task but curiosity was getting the best of him. At least it hadn't been a sound like he had heard in the field with his mom. His fur prickled upwards just at the thought of it.

"H-hey?" The growing Archer called out into the willows. If they were friendly they would call back to him, right? If not then perhaps he still had time to turn and flee from the scene. He certainly wasn't the fastest runner around but Roman didn't think he was the slowest either. He looked down at his large paws, inwardly begging them to not trip him up.

A pale brow raised as he called out again. "Who's out there?" His voice wasn't strong but at least he had pushed aside his nervous stutter that had been present at first. Man...Mama and Dad were gonna have his hide if he found himself in trouble.

She wasn’t really paying attention to where she was going. Which, of course, was rather foolish as she had never explored this forest before and was completely unfamiliar with the terrain. The scarlet Archer was fixated on beating her mother, even if her legs were much shorter than her mother’s. She pumped her legs as hard as she could, her ears folded against her skull in an attempt to make her more streamline; agile. Losing was not an option.

In her desperation to beat her mother the girl had missed the soft voice calling through the trees, for she was unable to hear anything but the wind rippling past her.

For a split second she removed her gaze from the path before her, a cheeky grin tugging at her lips as she turned to look over her shoulder, brows narrowed in determination. Her mother was closing in—her long legs definitely worked to her advantage. Just as she tossed her nose forward the girl’s paw connected with something hard—something solid. A root had interfered with her chances of winning and flung the girl forward. Tucking her chin against her chest Revon somersaulted through the trees and plummeted into something soft; warm.
