The BROKEN One and her SON
Honey let me sing you a song

Ashanti was calm as she nudged her little pup, she was sick of being cooped up in the den, she needed to stretch her legs but Bane was not ready to leave yet. She would wait until her little pup was ready, it would start when he opened his eyes. She had been around her mother enough to know that, and she herself had experienced it in her first few weeks of life. A fear was in her, fear that she would not be able to raise Bane in the good and that he would turn dark despite if she were to try her hardest. The child would live, but would his heart fall into darkness or would it be saved by the light and innocence surrounding every pup?

And listen to my words as they come out wrong

Her fur hadn’t been groomed since the birth of her son; she honestly had a lack for her appearance now that she had more important matters to attend to. Hollow had brought her food every day, and she was forever grateful for him, and Koda, Nina and Azariah. All of them had been so kind to her, Azariah the first to welcome her home when she returned. Nina to allow her to stay despite Nina having her own to pups to think of. Koda for being there when she herself had given birth to the little pup. She knew Hollow had saved her the most though. Hollow had brought her back to the pack, he had comforted her on the borders, where she realize she could not condemn the pup for his father’s actions. Lastly, he had been there, always protecting her because he understood. He understood what it was like to be mistreated, or at least she was pretty sure.

Don’t run away, run away this time

Bane
His body quivered, trembling to the touch of his mother as she nudged at him for whatever reason or another. Sleep had entrapped him, sleep of the mythical, unknown and terrifying. Bane knew nothing of true horror though his dreams were weird and exotic to him, something he could not fathom to understand nor explain but haunted him all the while even in his youth, even before his eyes could open to try and find similarity of his nightmares and the real world he had been born to. A high, growling noise echoed from his mug at having been awoken, his search for understanding opening once more as full consciousness took over. For the time being, he knew only himself and knew only her, his mother, his life source. Soon, the child would be filled with questions left unneeded in this moment when he stepped out from the hole in the dirt from which he was born. Born of royalty was something he had not been, nor had he even been wanted in this world. He was a curse, a basterd child, a spawn of an evil race wiped clean from the land not long ago, leaving him the only living memory of what had happened and what had to be done to stop it.

Stirring further, he struggles, the lids around his eyes straining, pulling and tugging until they opened. He blinks slowly and much, trying to understand this new sense of his coming to light in blurred and distorted images. Yet another retort in a growling manner comes from his gut, rumbling his tummy as he struggles to stand on tall limbs must to large for his torso. He is small in proportion savor these legs, revealing a tall, limber and agile man to form. For now, he merely trips, trying his most to once more regain his footing as he views the big, white blob which made his mother. She looked nothing like his dark self and had not been for his youth, would not hold the same eyes, ether. He was his father's son, through and through even as his intentions already strive for anything but. "Mmmmmm...." It is his first attempt at speech and what he had meant to say (mom? milk?) fails as soon as it begins. After all, with only himself, he would struggle to develop without anyone to practice his speech with when his mother was gone and without anyone to tumble and play with all the same. Though a life of loneliness, savor the large mass before him, was already something he was beginning to understand and accept, if nothing else.

{Dating this after he can leave le den}

Ashanti couldn't help but smile at her son, he had grown so much, and still be looked much like his father. As black as the fur his father had, and his eyes would hopefully remain blue, if they did, then Bane really had a piece of her in him, and he would not be just another like his father. There was hope for him yet, and she planned to squash any evil inside of him. "Bane, my son, its time for you to leave the den for the first time. Are you ready up for it?" She asked, a gentle coo in her voice as she spoke. It was one of a soft and kind spirit, one that proved there was still a bit of the Asha she use to have in her, it was all still there. Though her eyes could not hide the pain of seeing him. Since a pups vision wasn't fantastic, or even good, she did not worry about him seeing the pain.

She was worried about him noticing that he was different, several things and she was scared for him to know the truth. Maybe she would then hate her for naming him Bane, though he had been named after her friend, that was only half of the story. The other half was the poison of his conception. The other half, was about her old sweetheart, her childhood friend, named Bane, but she had almost forgotten about him until this happened. She could never forget now, not with Bane to care for, and she hoped to hide herself in the herb storage soon enough.

Bane
Silence overtook him yet again. He was a quiet boy, crying not even when he was hungry, but only when he was alone... Though observance was an obvious trait in the youth, as well as determination, as he struggled to stand once more on tall limbs like a fawn might be in their gangly form. His eyes were ever moving, consistently sweeping the confines of the underground, dirt den for which he had been birthed and for which he lived. He listened to her words, still distorted in his ears as they still were training for the ability to hear as a wolf could. He focuses on her, his vision becoming more clear, less blurred though still holding a lack of ability in reading her expression and so, smiles to her and nods his chocolate muzzle. "Yusss...." The word oddly hisses from parted jaws then.

Going mobile, Bane turns and pads awkwardly towards the opening of the den, where scents and sound and light guided his path out into the open world. He stops short before going out, toeing at the edge of the entrance as his eyes squint, shielding away from the light of the day which nearly blinded him. He steps back (perhaps into the limbs of his mother) as though to slink once more back into the darkness from which he had come and which he was born of...

"Ahh, you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it. Molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was a man. But it was nothing to me but blinding."

Ashanti couldn’t help but smile as her little pup spoke, he seemed so eager and she couldn’t be mad at him, at least not at the moment. She couldn’t help other than to be afraid of his teenage years, where his personality would be revealed as light or dark. She hoped it would be on the light side of everything, but she wasn’t too hopeful. “Come on then my sweetheart.” She said with her voice a gentle coo as she slowly got up, aiming to help him to his feet as well. She wanted to hiss at him for not getting up, but she knew she wouldn’t. It wasn’t his fault, it was her fault and it was the brute’s fault. She would not blame her puppy, especially when love and care was what he needed in his early stages.

They began to walk; exiting the den before Bane abruptly stepped back and stepped into her leg. Ashanti whispered a little hiss of surprise for a second before regaining herself. “Are you alright my dear?” She asked wanting to make sure the Bane was alright. I just need to stay calm, and move on with my life. Things will be better when he is a few months older then he was now. She knew it was true, but she also knew it was not true. She was anxious to go to the herb stores. Perhaps some ergot was needed; she knew she just needed to stretch her legs. Perhaps she could afford to leave him with Koda and Nina for a while she took a break. No, she would not burden them as such.

Bane
My sweetheart, my dear, my son...Bane. The names which she whispered to his fluffy brown ears soothed him even as he shuttered, his bright blue eyes narrowing at the violence of the daylight. "Whats Thisss?" The words slither from his tongue as his eyes continue to squint up to the sun for a moment more before his head turns down, shakes and moves at his shoulder to look back at his mother. He had only seen the light of the day before from the glow within the den, but this mid-morning was so bright, so light, and the orb in the blue sky above puzzled him and he wanted to know and understand it.

He sighs then, deeply, as he awaits his mother's inevitable answer. The warmth beckons him forward, the heat of the sun much more harsh then his mother could ever offer him, burning into the darkness of his coating like he had never felt before. "Sun." He repeats the word to know it with his own voice as he pads around the general grassy area around the den. There was grass, trees, flowers, rock...The sound of skittering, chirping, and even the distant sounds of others like himself pull his interest. He wishes to question but for the time being, holds his tongue by the fear of the unknown.

She followed her child out into the daylight, smiling as he was shocked by the sun’s violent delights. "Yes, Sun, never look directly at it though; it will hurt your eyes." She said, happy that her son was picking up on it all so fast. The words seemed to come natural to him, showing that he would be a bright one indeed. She nudged him, perhaps they could go for a small walk, maybe visit Nina. "Do you want to visit a friend of mine? Or would you like to instead go back inside?" She asked, figuring if they went back inside she could tell him one of her favorite stories from when she was a puppy. She wouldn’t be mad at him, not until he made her mad. She doubted that he could do that, no matter how hard he tried, unless he did something his father would do.

White lips, pale face, icy blue eyes. That was compared to her son, blue puppy eyes that would change; black fur. It wasn’t as it should be; he resembled his father too much. Surely Nina would understand what she meant when she said she needed a bit of time to get back to the herb stores, to get out of the child’s mind for a while, though she would never stay away forever. Forever was a long time. She’d be back at nights, and maybe Bane could play with Nina’s puppies. Nina’s pups would surely be sweet and innocent, just like Bane.

Bane
He moves, his limbs far to long and his feet far too large, in an awkward stumble as his made his way, circling around the general area as he dared not stray far from his mother's side, the only woman, the only wolf or being on this very earth that he had met. His den was beyond the other children, beyond their grunts and woofs for attention. He had only heard the currying on the night, the haunting howls of strangers that were pack mates he was unaware of.

Bane nods his head, eager, unwilling to crawl back into the darkness from which he was born just yet. "Friend." He repeats, trotting ahead by only a few paces in order to show his mother with action that he wished to go meet this friend, where words had otherwise been lacking. He had no intention of going back now. No intention of going back ever, so long as his fears were kept at bay and his heart was open.

[After this, why don't we do exit posts and then go off into another thread with Nina in it and maybe Koda?]

Ashanti had a friendly smile to her, her eyes calm and full of something they had not seen in a while… kindness. She had learned that no matter what happened, she could make it through it. She was only wondering now, how long it would be until the little boy asked her of his father. But the boy said one thing, and it was simply, he wanted to see her friend instead. Ashanti figured that exposure to the other pups, and Nina, would stop his questioning, maybe figuring that he was just being taken care of separate, though she knew that the scenario would never turn out that way, he looked so different from the other pups and his mother. Her tail swayed from side to side. "Alright then honey, let’s go meet my friend, Nina." She whispered to him, her eyes gentle. The hike wasn’t that far.

The pups were no doubt already out of the den like Bane, after are they were a few days older than him? Hollow probably already suspected Ashanti of something that wasn’t true. It was Bane Athelisa, the one that she had loved with all her heart, that Bane was named after. At first, it was because he had been the Bane of her existence, then she remembered him. He had been her saving grace, and she hoped that he had made it out, probably going by that old nickname that she had given him a while back. She had used to call him Aditsan, because he was always listening and the word meant listener.

Bane
works for me.

With his mother's agreement then, he was off, curious of this wolf 'Nina' that she spoke of. Not in his few weeks of existence had he seen or heard of another wolf before. Their scent, their sounds and their voices was unknown to him. His world was the darkness of his birthing den and the bright light of white coloration which was his mother and his mother alone. Though the obvious dark contrast of himself was known to him, there was nothing in his puppy mind to understand the difference just yet. A 'father' was a foreign word to him, having never heard of it and had he, would not understand what it meant. This woman, as he padded along her side, Ashanti, was the one that he had grew within, been birthed from, drank from. She was everything and all he knew and already a deep, dark and swirling over protection brew.

End.
