Dead Empress Backwater was one of the three new packs formed in 2021, officially joining RoW's colourful history March 11th, 2021. The original forming members included leader cousins Viorel & Vayko Valle, as well as Xulia Valle, Andrey Valle, Katna Valle, Modesto Valle, Sharlee Valle, Clover Assana & Vanadis Archer. Taking up camp in Heartleaf Creek, they quickly got to work bringing chaos to Northern Eden, continuing to look for missing Valle family members while making their new legacy.

After a discussion between the leaders it was decided that Viorel would be the one to sire the next generation of Valles, and he took this assignment maybe a little too seriously. Speaking with Clover, it was decided that she and Viorel would have a litter together as friends, however it was only a week later that the leader ignited a romance with Vanadis, resulting in a litter of their own. As if two litters were not enough, Viorel, Andrey and Xulia's mother Sita Valle arrived in May, heavily pregnant with her own litter and with two friends in tow; Azra Donata and Walleye. While Sita and Walleye decided to join the pack, Azra was overwhelmed upon hearing he was becoming a father and needed time to think about his next moves.

Before any of the litters could be born, the pack had further challenges to overcome. In a sick twist of events, Vayko faced instant karma for pissing off a snapping turtle, with a single bite not only did the leader gain a broken paw, but he also contracted salmonella. In the weeks that followed, he would be forced to step down from leadership due to complications with his paw healing and also became the Backwater's own Typhoid Mary. He spread salmonella throughout the pack, and by the end of the ordeal Vayko, Viorel, Vanadis, Katna, and Sharlee all contracted the illness and survived. It would take months before Vayko's paw fully recovered.

By the end of pup season DEB had been blessed with six children, Clover had three: Oleander, Marguerite and Violet, Vanadis bore two sons Archer and Eros, and Sita had a single daughter Hazelnut. The pack were kept busy with so many mouths to feed, as well as political matters as they began to build a positive relationship with their closest neighbours: Sanguine Cove. It seems an alliance may be in the infancy of forming, as the leaders of each pack have taken turns sending scouts with news of their whereabouts and gifts of herbs and other location specific gifts. During one of these trips, Clover and Xulia were caught in bad weather, and Xulia has not been seen since.

Prior to her disappearance, Xulia had come across Vasco on doomsdoor after being lost in the mountain tunnels for weeks alone. While not a Valle, he was a member of the original sea pack, a previous 'special friend' of Sita's, and unknowingly, Viorel, Andrey and Xulia's father. He was welcomed into DEB with open arms, and brought back to health thanks to pack healer Clover. Perhaps driven by homesickness, or unhappiness with having abandoned the search for answers, Andrey and Sita disappeared without a word to anyone. With smaller numbers the Empress wolves are in for a tough winter.

Perhaps the most chaotic of the children, Eros, challenged an elk that had taken up rut in the territory. In the aftermath of the event, Archer, Sharlee, Viorel, and Vasco all came to his aid. Unfortunately, while the elk did leave the territory it was not without first injuring Eros and Archer, and breaking a few of Viorel's ribs. The rest of the winter has not been any easier, Walleye succumbed to his age, giving the Empress wolves the first taste of death in their new home. Now, Vayko is ready to return to take back his crown, and his half the responsibility, what will life in the new year hold for Dead Empress Backwater?
