Finley Lennox Kane

Finley had asked Addison if she saw their target, but it turned out that there was not enough time to wait for an answer. At least she had managed to catch sight of Towser sinking into his hiding place before the other crew launched out on their chase. Letting out a hard exhale at the realization that they were a second behind, she looked towards the cub at her side and then broke through the foliage herself. She could only hope that the fiery girl was keeping up, because the deer had already begun to flee and they had some ground to cover.

Thankfully, because of the injury, their target had not been able to move as quickly as the rest of the herd and had already fallen behind. That at least saved them the work of having to separate it from all of the others. Racing beside the prey, the mother waited until she was parallel to the creature before turning sharply and snapping her jaws towards its front legs.

She didn’t connect, but she had not meant to, instead she was attempting to make the deer turn almost 90 degrees so it would head down towards where Towser was waiting. If it didn’t work then this would all be for not, they were almost past the point where this was a viable option. As if on cue, the deer turned, but almost immediately afterwards it kicked out its hind hooves, grazing Finley’s chin when she wasn’t able to duck in time. Nothing more than a scrape it wasn’t serious, but it still smarted, causing green eyes to narrow. Snapping her jaws once more, she drove it down towards Towser.

Addy
Addison continued to follow, dutifully so even if she appeared a touch inattentive. It was easy to get the impression that the yearling was lost in a daydream even at her most focused. They came to an opportune place to lie in wait, and her eyes surveyed the herd at length. Her lips had only just begun to part in answer to Finley's question when the action began, cutting her off. She joined the foray without hesitation.

Her long legs served her well, and she moved silently in constant compliment to her leader's choices. The only thing she did not mirror was the unfortunate moment of proximity that resulted in contact between Atara's mother and their prey's hoof. Addy did not miss a beat, but her eye was kept on Fin to ensure she was really alright. Had she fallen back completely, Addison would have abandoned pursuit to check on her well being.

That she continued told the young girl that all was well, and so it was forgotten save for the reminder that this work had its dangers.

Atara Kane
Atara went along with her group and took her position, striking out in sync with the other chaser to separate and drive their quary toward the second half of their team. Once the trap was sprung and the attack began in earnest, when there was no more need for her legs, she began to use her teeth. Helping in any way needed until the hunt was completed in full.

Success. The creatures would fall, one after another, leaving the Falls with quite a feast. As the adrenaline started to settle in her body, she would grin at her packmates, raising her maw to call for those who had not been able to attend the hunt itself, hoping they might join them to eat, and to assist in taking whatever leftovers there might be to the caches. She imagined it would not hold for long as part of a whole, but they could whittle through it over the course of the week.

She’d offer everyone soft good jobs as she went to check on them, assessing any injuries – scrapes and twisted ankles, that had occurred. She felt it her duty and her responsibility to ensure their safety, and she had learned much from the hunt to ensure that it would not happen again next time… or at least further mitigate it.
