Oleander Valle was born to Clover Assana and Viorel Valle within the wilderness of Dead Empress Backwater. He is the second-born in his litter, brother to sisters Violet Valle and Marguerite Valle. He is part of the first generation of Valle wolves to be born on-site.

Oleander's DEN & TERRITORY

Oleander's DEN:

Located somewhere near CLOVER's medicinal den (the Infirmary). A modest, two-wolf burrow made from the overhanging roots of a gnarled, old tree and a curtain of moss and vines. In the springtime, clovers, moss, and other groundcover surround the small clearing. By summer, flowering vines climb down the entrance, covering it halfway like a cascading curtain. In the autumn and winter, these are stripped bare from the frost, leaving mostly tangled roots behind. A bed of heart-shaped empress tree leaves from seasons past serves as his resting place. At the back of his den, his small treasures are piled up and stashed in between the old roots.

**Most pack members know that this is where he can be found 8 times out of 10.

2021 — Year One.
Oleander's early months were simple. His wants and needs were simple: a full tummy, cuddles with Mama, and playing with his sisters. There were afternoons of daydreaming in the den and napping at every opportunity. He even experienced his first snow alongside his sister Marguerite. As he grew older he soon came to realize he was not alone, that there were other cubs in the pack. And, when his sisters wandered off to make their way in the world, Oleander was left behind.

JUN 04	unseen moments — Oleander and his siblings are officially introduced to the pack.

2022 — Year Two.
As Clover's remaining cub, Oleander took it upon himself to make her proud. He spent his days shadowing her as she gathered herbs and often played by the river. He became a master in gathering herbs and other "useful things." As a yearling, he established his own little den at the base of a gnarled tree not far from the Infirmary. Here, he began to hoard his findings: peculiar leaves, twigs, roots, and striped river stones. Later on, a 'stolen' deer antler became his prized possession. Vanadis and Viorel's announcement of expecting another litter brought Oleander insecurity. It became obvious to him that he was going to be 'the odd one out.' His need for approval and praise brought him into the late summer gathering herbs for Clover. Though, his plant of choice might have been considered an unsavory one. Adolescent angst and bitterness saw him take an interest in more dangerous plants. He had blisters on his paw pads and bouts of dizziness. He wasted time watching rabbits consume dark berries and, for a time, had mushroom spores in his coat. The latter led to an outbreak of mushrooms in his den, which he had to clean out after a while. He began to live a solitary lifestyle, reclusive and reserved. He avoided others at all costs and checked in only with Clover when he felt she needed to see him.
FEB 09	arrowhead — Sawyer, a visitor, comes to Dead Empress Backwater with gifts...
MAR 30	just one look and now you're seeing double — Oleander learns that Vanadis and his father are going to have another litter.

                                                                     

2023 — Year Three.
Oleander had finally found peace. So far removed from the conventions of Dead Empress Backwater, he learned to value the quiet. He learned to meditate. He began to scavenge, cache goods of value, maintain his burrow, and learned to fend for himself. When a pup exchange with a neighboring pack goes awry, Oleander finds his father in mourning. Sephrina, the half-sister he barely knew, had drowned. A funeral procession summons him from his hermit hovel. Untouched by loss, he alone takes action to see that she is properly laid to rest. Spring brings another whirlwind of unrest. Viorel succumbs to grief, Archer gets ousted from the pack... then Clover and Vayko welcome a litter of their own. Oleander starts to flirt with the idea of leaving the Backwater. He becomes haunted by an imaginary girl who frequents his dreams. Enough was enough. He had to do something to clear his head. He spent the summer exploring beyond all the borders he knew within his part of Relic Lore. Before he knew it, he was lost. To make the most of it all, he took things one day at a time. His knowledge of plants grew from personal experience and the occasional passersby. When the warm season began to let up, he returned to his old stomping grounds:  Heartleaf Creek. It is here that he met Sage for the first time before deciding to return home for the winter. Viorel welcomed Oleander back to Dead Empress Backwater. No oaths, promises, or proof needed. In wanting to prove himself, regardless, winter saw Oleander finally take action. He helped the pack in a sudden snowstorm and accompanied Sage home after following her sleepwalking. He even attacked a cougar when it came too close for comfort. Eros came to his aid, executing the killing blow when Oleander hesitated. Later, the brothers met again for a talk, and the distance that had been ebbed between them for so long finally began to close...
FEB 21	all the king's horses and all the king's men — Oleander and the pack assemble to bury Viorel and Vanadis' daughter Sephrina.
MAR 25	so much for a low profile — As Viorel reprimands his son Archer for his deed with Kateri, Oleander tries to hide to no avail.
MAY 17	{M} Now you're just a page torn from the story I'm building — Oleander stands by as Clover and Vayko welcome four new souls - his half-siblings Khalon, Tuwile, Euna, and Torianna - into Dead Empress Backwater.
JUL 10	wishing on a star that's just a satellite — Having left home for some time, Oleander meets someone new while fishing up freshwater mussels.
DEC 09	poisoned leaves in a mason jar — Oleander finally returns home, welcomed back into the fold by his father Viorel.
DEC 13	don't wanna cross a line — The wolves of Dead Empress Backwater seek shelter amidst a brutal snowstorm. Clover falls through the ice, rescued by Sage, Eros, and Viorel. Oleander is instructed to acquire supplies for those chilled to the bone.
DEC 14	From Dusk Till Dawn {M} — Sage and Oleander meet again as she sleepwalks away from home.
DEC 16	The Songbirds are Gone — A rogue cougar tracks one of the pack's monthlings... Without hesitation, Oleander comes to the rescue, backed by brother Eros.
DEC 21	one family under the sun — As Leader, Eros summons his brother for a talk about pack roles and covering for Clover as the pack's Healer and Herbalist.

                     

2024 — Year Four.
The arrival of a new year saw Oleander start to connect with himself. Gone was the youth who stumbled over his words and shied away from interaction. His confidence grew. He grounded himself in his tasks as the pack's acting Medic while his mother Clover recovered from her injury. His relationship with Sage also began to fully take shape as the duo spent more time together.

The Glass Cannon is characterized by insane attack power coupled with pathetic defensive ability. Oleander is built tall, spindly and lean. His range of Dexterity depends on chance/situation. He relies on Strength and is hindered by Constitution: he can pack a punch, but he can't take it.

Overview

Oleander's lanky physique makes him quick on his feet. However, because of his lack of substantial muscle, he easily goes down. He is comparable to a well-versed diplomat, but he is a sensitive individual and takes things to heart.

Posturing, negotiating, and drawing his opponent into weak positions are his strong suit. Absolute downfalls like well-timed insults, a midjudged step, and strong physical attacks spell out his defeat.

In a fight, Oleander is the perfect sidekick, offering "high" damage in exchange for the support/defense capabilities of others.

CONS

STRONG OFFENSE. Oleander has a +1 Strength bonus for attack, slightly upping his chances to land a hit. INTIMIDATION. Strength is not only for physical blows. Oleander also uses it as a means of charisma... used to gauge how convincing or persuading his words and tone are perceived. UNWAVERING. Oleander's +1 Strength bonus could also clue into his determination and unshakable willpower.

WEAK DEFENSE. Paper-thin skin, a sensitive soul, and a "delicate" physique make Oleander an easy target. One good 'hit' and he is down. MODERATE EVASIVENESS. Oleander's capability to dodge is an absolute must for his survival, lest he flirts with the odds of defeat. FRAGILE. -1 Constitution puts Oleander at a disadvantage. He starts every fight -1 Health Point. While he is not to be considered 'weak' or 'helpless', he is like the flower he is named for. Deadly, but able to be stomped out.

While Oleander tries to be useful to the pack in any way he can, he does have some strong points. Listed below is his progress towards official pack roles.

                                

Medic — Healing & Herbalism
Oleander, while not formally trained, has some plant knowledge. What he knows comes from shadowing his mother Clover while out on her errands or foraging trips. For a time when he was away from home, he expanded his understanding of herbs - those that heal and those that harm. While his mastery lies with poisonous plants, he knows how to heal simple maladies. As a Caregiver archetype, he possesses compassion and a genuine desire to help those in need. He strives to keep harm from himself and those he loves.

Guardian — Protection & Security
Oleander's lanky physique doesn't make him a great candidate as a Guardian. However, when it counts, he possesses some attributes that prove him worthy of the role. He is family-oriented and loyal to the core. He seeks to protect those he cares about and eradicate any harm that comes to them. Built as a Glass Cannon, Oleander does his best to dole out damage before being knocked down a peg. Often, when he maneuvers, it is a sacrifice on his part.

Hunter — Scavenging & Tracking
Having been born in Dead Empress Backwater, Oleander is no stranger to water. Like his family and ancestors before him, he has an affinity for it. As a collector of unique trinkets, he is well-practiced in tracking and caching. His skill set consists of gathering mussels, maintaining the catfish pool along Heartleaf Creek, finding frogs, and tracking rabbits.

Sage Hervok
Sage Hervok is Nia's daughter and Danica's granddaughter. She came to Relic Lore at the beginning of 2023 and met Oleander later that summer. Since then, she has been on the Valle's mind quite a bit... In the 2023 yearbook, Sage and Oleander won superlatives 'Most Likely To Get Together' and 'Dream Ship'.

Her eyes shifted to the white bundle of fur next to her, the stark white contrast reminding her of the white flowers that bloomed in the fields back home. Instantly, she knew what she wanted to name him. "For the boy I was thinking Oleander, like the flower. It's very beautiful, and he reminds me of it."

Oleander — unseen moments

Behind him, the girls began to cry. One of Oleander's ears went to the side, collecting the sounds of his sisters. His own blue eyes began to tear up. "Or maybe not." Viorel was obviously let down. This crop was turning out to be a bunch of crybabies.

Archer — Bibbity Bobbity... Boop!

Today, the youngest Valle decided to wander off on his own. He knew Eros would be mad at him for leaving him behind, but sometimes to learn new things Archer needed to be on his own. He wondered if Oleander, who seemed to value intellect as well, ever felt the same way.

Viorel — not a good shade match

Most of his family was quick to answer the call, but Clover and Oleander lagged. Viorel did not have much to worry about in that sense, he assumed they were out together looking at herbs, or perhaps separate but doing their own thing. Oleander was certainly not the most mischievous of his pups, and the father did not fret for his safety.

Eros — This is my Home

There was... something growing between {Sage} and his brother, different from the way she had bonded with Seri and himself. On it's own, it would have meant nothing to him. After everything that Archer and Kateri's 'friendship' culminated into, however? The newly elected leader couldn't help but feel nervous. Still, for now, he kept all reservations to himself. After all, there were plenty of differences too. Like how O could still have a conversation without bringing Sage up in the first thirty seconds...
