Lone Wolf No Rank
Treva

The forest was quiet, the kind of quiet that made the air feel thick, as if the trees themselves were holding their breath. Snowflakes drifted from the sky, each one a tiny whisper, settling softly on the ground and the branches above. The world was a blur of white, muted and endless. She padded silently through the snow, her dark coat a stark contrast against the frozen landscape.

The woods stretched on, unfamiliar, strange in a way that unsettled her some. The trees were different—taller, thinner—reaching upward with bare, spindly branches that seemed to claw at the sky. The scent of pine was thick, but underneath it, there was something…off. Something foreign. She paused, her nose twitching as she took in the layers of smells that filled the air. The frost, the damp earth, the occasional hint of prey.

But there was something else too, something faint and almost forgotten. She couldn’t place it, but the air seemed to hum with a kind of quiet energy, a pulse beneath the cold.

She took another step forward, her paws sinking into the deep snow with each movement. Her ears flicked at every sound—the distant creak of a tree, the flutter of wings, the soft rustle of snow settling—but she kept moving, pushing herself deeper into the unknown. Treva had left her pack weeks ago, her reasons her own. She felt the need to find something outside the familiar, something more than the endless search for food and shelter among familiar, ancestral faces. She had followed the scent of a distant wind, felt the call of something far off, and it had brought her here.

She had traversed mountains, crossed rivers, scaled hills, and passed through forests like this before, but this one felt different. The trees were close, their gnarled roots twisting out of the ground like ancient fingers. The air was heavier, filled with an odd stillness that seemed to seep into her bones. She couldn’t shake the feeling that she was somehow meant to be here, and that this forest was holding a secret, one that it didn’t want to reveal, yet.

The girl shook her fur out, as if to rid herself of the weariness of travel that clung to her as sharp, golden eyes scanned the landscape, searching for any sign of movement. The scent of prey had faded with the wind, leaving her with only the eerie quiet of the woods. Stepping forward cautiously, her paws light on the snow, all of her senses felt stretched thin. The sound of a snap came from just ahead, through a cluster of dense trees. Treva’s heart beat faster, her instincts screaming at her to move, to run, to hunt.

But she didn’t. Instead, she pushed onward, drawn by the pull of the unknown, into the depths of the woods where she felt something—something ancient and wild—stirring just beyond her reach.

The secret of the forest was waiting. And she was determined to find it.

Dead Empress Backwater Pup
Aven Slayer
Aven was different now. There was a quiet inside of her that had not existed before. It pulled at her like gravity, constant and incontestable. For now, all she could do was acknowledge and make room for it, but she knew that wouldn't always be so. It was growing into something more, something that would one day have a will of its own. She wondered if it echoed inside of @Neva too, or if they for once differed.

To her, the forest was dead, winter's throw the lid of a casket. She sensed the life that the stranger brought, however. Pulled from wandering thoughts and paws, the youth now prowled with purpose. She followed determinedly, watchfully, but did little to disguise her own presence. It didn't matter to her if she was seen or not.

Aven was curious. Who was this, and what was she looking for with that kind of light in her eyes?
