RE: There is an active change in the Northern Lights! The sky lights up in greens, blues, and even shades of purple.

Description: West of Whitestone Monadnock and north of Wild Rye Fields a forgotten crater sits as it has for time immemorable. Its gentle sloping sides could easily be missed as just another roll of the tundra until you reach the lip, a wide basin spreading out before you in an almost perfect circle. The bottom is littered with sharp stones strewn between the tundra groundcover.

Where was her mother? She had been gone for what felt like a lifetime. Another woman had joined the ranks and Percy found herself seeking more and more distance from the other members of her pack. She still managed to make use of @Askan as a pillow most nights, but sometimes she would sleep under the stars, just to get away from them all. Tonight was one of those nights.

Ever since the meeting she had been been keeping to the southern side of her home, hugging the trees and slinking in the shadows, but not tonight. A glimmering through the canopy had caught her eye and she intended to see just what was causing it. As the branches thinned and gave way to the open sky, her breath caught in her chest. What on earth was going on?

Taking the dancing lights as some sort of devine message, the girl chased after them, well clear of the borders and into the open tundra, trying to reach the spot where the lights touched the earth. Maybe, maybe if she pushed just a little harder, she would be able to find the answers she was seeking. Maybe they were a bridge to a better place.

Much like a number of relatives, both known and not, Odin had recently taken to a nocturnal timetable. As the den began to fill with bodies, the heat became almost unbearable for the thick coated boy and so with a lick to @Kara's forehead he would remove himself to prowl the lands below the monadnock. He had taken to wandering to the west, drawn in by the vastness of the tundra and all that might lay beyond the borders he knew so well. That the northern lights danced so brightly overhead was as much an annoyance as it was a wonder. He slept through the day to avoid the light.

Striking south for a change, he wondered what he might see tonight. If it hadn't been for the brightly lit sky he would have tumbled straight down the bank that suddenly dropped away, the vast bowl-shaped crater something otherworldly to the Archer lad. He made a mental note to come back here with Lorcan, the wide flat expanse and sloping walls would serve perfectly as a sort of combat ring and might encourage more wrestling and less biting from his lighter toned partner. A sound like thunder rolled off the walls of the depression. The boy braced himself, tail rising high over his spine as he prepared to face whatever the beast was head on. He wouldn't be taken down so easily.

With her eyes turned to the sky she paid no mind to the ground beneath her paws, assuming the gradual rise was little more than a standard hill. Were the lights leading her to her mother? Or something greater than herself? If she ran just a little faster would she catch them? What could they possibly mean? All lit up in purple, green and blue? The cold air burned in her lungs, her breath leaving a constant stream of steam in her wake. If she stretched just a little further...

The earth vanished from beneath her paws. The startled sound that left her chest bounced off the walls around her, startled Argh! sounding more like a monstrous roar within the confines of the crater. The girl rolled, head over tail and over again, the stones that lined the basin battering her on the short descent. She ached all over and sprawled frozen for a moment as she struggled to collect herself, firey eyes turning up to to spot the lights still dancing overhead. It lit the snow beneath her as she cautiously rose, quickly discovering she was not alone in here. The dark silhouette was monstrous, the dancing lights playing tricks with the shadows that moved beneath them. She tried to call out, but her voice was lost. Was it getting closer or was it all in her head?

It was hard to miss the flurry of snow and limbs that came toppling over the lip of the Archer's little colosseum. Dark lips pulled in a sneer as he froze, wondering just how long it would take the stranger to spot him. It couldn't have been an easy fall, rocks littering the sections nearest the walls while he now stood on open ground. Finally she seemed to realise, although it couldn't have been scent that gave him away. The wind blew straight over them. It was an eerie stillness that contrasted with the dancing lights overhead. Movement, stillness - this little hole in the earth was ethereal. Within it he was king.

Confidence swelling the youth stepped forward, the shaking of his own breath betraying his excitement for the situation that had been presented. He told himself it was the earth shaking, not him, as he drew closer to the girl. For a moment he paused, savouring the stunned look on her face, a billow of steam escaping his mouth in one steady exhale before he launched himself at her. This wasn't about dominance or weighing himself up, this was just for the hell of it. Jaws aimed to clamp over the girls slender shoulder. If he could hook a leg over her spine he would try and press her into the earth. Into her grave.

It was like she was staring through a fogged up window, watching someone else's life from the outside instead of the in that she currently found herself. Still slightly stunned from her fall and unsure if it was just the lights playing tricks or actual movement it wasn't until she heard how unsteady his breathing was that she even had an inkling she might be in trouble. Time seemed to slow as the larger wolf sprung towards her, limbs barely bracing in time to prevent him knocking her clean over again. Jaws flailed frantically, small grunts leaving her chest as her brain tried to catch up with just what the hell was going on.

She tried to stumble towards him in the hopes that he might trip but this boy had far more experience at this sort of thing than her and extra weight to boot. Her eyes were wide enough to see the whites and thinking herself out of options she threw herself back, dull claws raking across her back as hind limbs flailed out towards any unprotected flesh, be it his belly or his throat, she didn't really care. She just wanted to put some distance between them. Limbs would frantically flail as she tried to find her feet again, ears laying flat along her skull as the girl finally found a snarl. It ricocheted off the walls around them, giving her more confidence in herself than she had ever felt before. She just had to wait it out. She would get out of here. This was her test.

Critical Miss. Things get a bit gross from here so skip if you don't have a very strong stomach.

It quickly became apparent that this was not just another friendly spar with his sister or a pack mate, wave after crashing wave of adrenaline washed over the boy as he thought he felt her buckling beneath her weight. What he never anticipated was the way she would throw herself back with so little regard for the rocks beneath, limbs flailing blindly, one catching him solidly in the ribs. He swung his head to retaliate, a simple lesson quickly forgotten in the heat of the moment - eyes wide open as he tried to close around the soft fur of her stomach.

It was a searing pain, burning so intense that it ripped a yelp from the otherwise silent wolf. He could feel a wetness seeping down the left side of his face, the perception of depth all but gone instantaneously. His body pedalled backwards trying to get clear of the thing that had so successfully assaulted his eye, realisation of the damage done lighting a fire in the young wolf's belly. It was time to stop stuffing around. Lid closed tightly over his leaking eye socket, good eye pinning the girl where she stood. It was her turn, but if she chose to flee he would hunt her to the ends of the earth.

Time seemed to stop as the boy pedalled back and Percy watched him, momentarily stunned. It was too dark to see the wetness that coated his dark cheek or the way his eye that was squeezed so tightly shut continued to weep, not blood but a clear liquid that was undetectable in the night. It had been clear from his yelp however that she had managed to land some sort of blow. Was this her chance? She tried to stare him down, her tail inching higher to match the volume of her snarl, but he seemed to just glare angrily back. It was when she saw him move to shake his head that she launched, quickly closing the distance between them.

All she wanted to do was get out of this pit, but unless she found a way to stop him she was almost certain he would follow her. It was only as her jaws came close to his face that she noticed the sunken appearance of his left eye, stomach flipping as her jaws redirected away from the ick that was oozing. She aimed her bite instead at his shoulders, bringing her front limbs up to grapple with the boy. It was a foolish move to make with a wolf that outweighed her, but she lacked experience, and simply wanted to get out of here alive.

She could have caught him clean across the muzzle, given him some scars to match @Piety, or @Craw, for even though she had managed to put a dull nail right through his eye, she hadn't managed to break any skin. Instead, she tried to grapple him, teeth closing over the thick fur that covered his shoulders, teeth dragging close but he could tell her heart wasn't in it. He still owed her one. Perhaps this was why @Wraith told him off for playing with his food and maybe this was karma? At least it was another wolf that got him and not some vermin pest like a coyote or fox.

He took aim higher than the girl, attempting to grip the thick fur over the back of her neck. Given half a chance he'd bite right down and severe her spine just to call it even, but he wouldn't be afforded such luck. If he could throw her around enough to dislodge her, get her on her back, then he'd be able to finish this. As fun as it had been, he had other places to be and he was quickly growing tired of their little game. The throbbing of his face was distracting, his aim was off, maybe he wouldn't come out of this on top after all?

Oh no, she should have grabbed him right in the face.

Percy could feel the power in his muscles, his jaws clamping harshly on the fur at the back of her neck and the power it gave him to move her where he wanted. She was giving up ground at an alarming rate, and began to consider thowing herself backwards again in an attempt to get free (a move that should henceforth be refered to as the 'fainting goat'). Something held her back that was more than the teeth in her scruff. They were getting down to the wire. If she didn't give it her all right now she might not make it out of here.

Her range was limited with his hold on her neck, but that didn't stop her muzzle wrinkling in an ugly way, her growls echoing off the walls that came up around them as she thrashed her head this way and that, teeth clacking together in an attempt to grab something, anything that might convince him to let up his hold. Finally, the jarring clack as their skulls collided seemed to shock her opponent into letting her go, but in her stunned relief she forgot their precarious position, locked upright on rear paws. She was falling, falling, down, down, down.
