NOTE: Flair is currently one week pregnant!

Her heat had abated, only for spring to fully take hold, the days growing warm enough to melt the thick carpet of snow. This type of heat made her body itch just as badly, though at least it was an easier type of irritation to deal with; The fiery shewolf stopped to gnaw at a spot on her back, loosening a large clump of fluffy winter fur. She felt odd. Usually this time of year came with considerable relief, but this year, one rush of hormones had instead been replaced with another, more contemplative sort.

So, as she’d awoken with the sun that morning, feeling too twitchy to go back to sleep, she’d decided to take a walk to try and sort things out. Her paws let her along the outrunners of the mountains, slowly into a deep gorge running south. Remnants of ice and meltwater gathered in the shadows at the bottom, though dried banks of mud along either side implied that the inlet usually held much more water.

There was little room in the woman’s mind to speculate on that though, she was planning. It wouldn’t be long before she couldn’t move around so freely, hunting would become harder, something she definitely didn’t look forwards to; And we’ll need a den… They’d have to settle somewhere, at least for a little while. It was a lot to sort in very little time, yet she found herself smiling as she pondered, a certain bounce in her step; She was excited.

Chan Eastfall
Chan wasn't sure what to make of the mess inside of his head. Things he'd started and now needed to choose between, his own indiscernible emotions, rampant concerns about others - everything twisted and tangled together, making it nearly impossible to focus on any one thread. Worst of all, however, was the waiting. Every day seemed to have dragged on as he anticipated some kind of sign to tell him if he'd truly changed his life or not. He couldn't even begin to know his path forward until he knew for sure what, if anything, had come of his and Flair's intimacy.

He followed almost absent-mindedly after her as she milled about with her own thoughts. Occasionally he'd lose sight of his friend as the terrain changed, but her scent was ever-present, guiding his steps.

Every so often she would stop to sniff at a particular part of the bank, investigating the dirt under rock protrusions or tree roots, but she always moved on quickly. It was half unconscious really, instinct telling her to check, even if it was still a bit too early to settle; and besides, this area was much too open for her taste, too exposed and likely to flood too she suspected, once the water returned.

At one of these stops, she noticed her shadow, smiling back over her shoulder at the sandy figure. Like her, he seemed caught up in his own thoughts and she was happy to leave him to them, just enjoying his quiet company. He could catch up whenever he wanted to.

Just then, something caught her attention at the bottom of the muddy trench, glistening in the sun. Carefully, she made her way down the slope, surprised to feel how solid the ground was, already mostly dried out. And that made her find all the more surprising: as she drew closer, her nose wrinkled at the smell, eyes widening in surprise; it was a fish! And not a tiny one either, one of the big, fat ones, a trout or salmon of some kind. Obviously, it was dead, quickly baking in the sun like everything else, but it hadn’t been for too terribly long – still intact and showing no sign of injury or scavengers. A confused wrinkle formed between russet brows as Flair bend towards the creature, murmuring to herself: “How did you get here?”
