The sky is dark with storm clouds - 7/29/2014

Sitting on a particular boulder and staring out at the wide expanse of rolling field, Kova tried to figure out where he wanted to explore to next. He had explored two of the four borders on previous outings (without his parents knowing) and could remember every detail of those particular paths he had taken. Now the boy wanted to venture out into territory he didn't know. The areas along the remaining two borders that his father Tokino or his mother Minka had yet to bring the pup to while strolling about the territory. He knew that when he found the mixture of pack scent he would be hitting the border itself, so Kova thought that once he reached a border he would simply look around, turn around, and then head back home the way he had come.

The wind blew strongly ruffling up his fluffy gray coat making Kova shiver a tad bit despite the extreme humidity and heat. Glancing upwards as the sunlight was suddenly cut away from his boulder , the very boulder his father had claimed for sun bathing, the child noticed deep dark blue-green clouds massing over the sun. No thunder yet sounded, but the threatening look of the storms spoke to any experienced wolf that a dangerous storm was coming.

Unaware of the danger, Kova slipped off the boulder and continued forward into the shadow filled territory. He was headed right at the very faint scent markings which the pup didn't even notice. He kept on walking right over the border unaware that he had just passed the border he was not allowed to pass through. If only his parents had mentioned how the borders were not always well marked and strong scenting. Maybe he would have had his head down looking for the scent instead of waiting for the border's smells to smack him in the face.

The clouds rumbled faintly making Kova pause. He didn't know where the sound had come from, but as he noticed the slight hunger in his belly the boy mused that his stomach was the one who had made the noise.

Cresting the top of a hill Kova's mouth opened in awe at the sight before him. He could see woods far ahead across the numerous blackberry bushes he had known all his life. Kova had never seen a forest before, though he had come across the word a few times when his parents mentioned it. Ogling the trees from his far away view point Kova suddenly felt nervous. He had never seen forest before even after that one time he had crossed the borders and gone farther than he should. Did I go too far? Or does this border reach all the way out there? He thought quietly as another rough wind cascaded over the hills almost pushing the pup over.

Beaudry Thane

The thunder seemed to come from beneath her paws. Each rolling hit was more intense than the last, and the power of it surged through everything. Beaudry maneuvered through the fields, feeding off the energy of it. She loved storms, their power and might, the energy they pumped into the air, into her lungs and mind and heart. More than anything, it made her feel alive. Argent sterling eyes cut through the gloom, and her silvery form was a shadow behind them, slipping through the brambles. She sought higher ground, so as to witness nature's tantrum, and cared little for anything else that may be around her.

The ground sloped, gently at first and then steeply. As she crested the knoll, her sights were set skyward, up to the dusty froth of grays and subtle greens. It was a truly eerie mixture, and she adored it. Then, cutting through the moisture and newly created ozone, she caught the scent of company. Her eyes dropped back to earth and lay upon the minute form of a little boy. His fur was thick with the smells of others and he seemed to be in awe of what lay before him. Beaudry inhaled deeply, her form tensed now with anxiety over anticipation. Where were his keepers? She did not want to be caught in a bad situation, should anyone think her a threat to their charge. However, try as she might, she could not catch tell of any other wolves around.

Truly curious now, the girl approached the whelp, her face empty except for judging eyes.

"And who are you, facing down a storm alone?"

Kova Lagina
memoria et lux

Catching himself as the wind buffeted his fur with a harsh push, Kova defiantly pulled himself forward and stood his ground against the stormy weather. His blue eyes peered upwards at the angry looking clouds as the child finally began to notice that the loud rumblings weren't coming from his stomach. Awed at the majesty of the storm and its power the gray lad flinched as a voice raised itself over the winds and caught his sensitive ears. The voice asked "Who are you?"

Turning to look over the stranger with an excited expression the young Lagina proudly raised himself against the backdrop of the storm. I'm Kova Lagina. he answered the other wolf then cocked his head in an expectant expression. What is your name? and what does "storm" mean? He asked too hyped by the electricity of the air around him to bother worrying about the fact that he wasn't supposed to be talking to strangers. Especially when they didn't have his pack's scent on them. Instead he turned his dark blue gaze onto the blue clouds amassing above.

Whatever was happening with the sky, Kova was enthralled by it. More so by the storm than by the forest beyond the numerous blackberry bushes filling the field. His paws itched to run towards the billowing cathedral of cloud instead of away from it. However when lightning lit the sky far away, Kova's eyes grew round and wide. He had never seen the sky light up like that before. He briefly found it to be pretty before the louder rumbling thunder reminded him that he was hungry. Although Kova now was understanding that the rumbling wasn't his belly anymore.
