Still no answer from Tomen. Rook's heart dropped, but not as far as to feel like it had rolled down into his stomach. He, himself, had dispersed from Renegades Reach at that age; and, there was no doubt about Veho or the rest of the pack helping Tomen hone what instincts he might not have developed (how to track certain things, how to discern whether certain places were safe or not, etc.) when Rook had been physically and mentally unavailable. The world was wide and wild beyond Grizzly Hollow and Relic Lore altogether, but if Tomen was anything like his mother, Rook was sure that he would find his way.
The Lyall's ears remained low, continuing to listen as his first-born's voice remained unheard as the moments pressed on. Like Quil and Cinder and Jaysyek and everyone else who had left him, Tomen would be missed. But, just for good measure, he slowly trotted away from the assembling group when Amaryllis had arrived and sent a single melancholy note into the sky beyond the cedar boughs.
He called the boy by name, just once. But, the call went unreturned by the developing baritone he had been expecting.
One bearish ear turned back to where Veho and the rest had regrouped. He would go to them and discuss what their next course of action was with Oula and Joan gone missing, but he would wait just a while longer.
Just in case...
Chances are I have a BEN WHISHAW gif for that.
