Drestig Avalon

The bad premunition crept up his spine like a cold tendril, making his hackles stand on end. It only got worse when Lilya introduced herself, confirming that she was Lachesis mate, and fellow leader. It took all Drestig’s self control not to demand answers right then, teeth clenching briefly with the exertion. Then his attention shifted back to XIX, as the pale man tried to ease the conversation along. A deep frown creased his dark brow as he cast another glance towards the agouti shewolf before nodding faintly. “The Fields are… Well,” he granted; “We’re holding good numbers, and Jessie gave birth to three healthy pups at the end of May.” The shadow of a smile played around his lips at the mention of his children, but it couldn’t overshadow the realization of what bad news the River was about to deliver.

With a heavy sigh and a shake of his head, Drestig met the other leader’s chartreuse gaze, eyes dark; “But now, please tell me, what’s happened to Kisla?” It was obvious that the matriarch no longer lead her River wolves and he could only deduce, from this and the somber airs, that something terrible must have happened to her. Despite her having been healthy and strong, with many good years still left in her the last time they spoke, Drestig couldn’t imagine Kisla handing over leadership to anyone willingly, unless something had made her unable to continue; Something bad..!

Taking a brief, sideways glance, the Rye alpha noticed his companion looking towards the silent guardian of the River, her mind pretty clearly on other matters. Giving her a light nudge with his shoulder, to catch her attention, he nodded ever so slightly, glancing towards the blonde male and then jerked his muzzle lightly; A permission to leave and be alone, if they so wished. There was no need for the young - Lovers? - to stay at, what was sure to be a sorrowful discussion. Better they go and enjoy each other’s company while they could; There will be plenty of time for grief.

He nodded at the older male’s words, a soft smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. It was good to hear that the Fields pack were flourishing; having puppies was a good way of solidifying a pack, especially after claiming land. He had dropped off herbs for the expecting mother early in the spring, as they had not possessed a healer back then, and was pleased to learn that she had been blessed with three healthy children. Good, he murmured, his expression subdued as he glanced over at his mate. We had some unexpected litters this spring, so they’ve kept us busy over the spring. Unexpected was an understatement. As leaders, both he and Kisla had had rights to breed. He would have never sought out his tawny co-lead, simply because of his former relationship with her deceased mate. Things had sort of just happened with Lilya, but he did not hold any regrets. After giving birth to two daughters they had professed their love to each other and, now, he couldn’t imagine his life without her. And it was all thanks to Aytigin, who had unknowingly pushed the two together. Inna’s litter had come as a surprise, and XIX was thankful that she had only given birth to one cub, as five was already too much for the pack to handle. But the little crow was doted on all the same, even if she had been the result of broken pack law.

His shoulders sagged at the mention of Kisla, a soft frown tracing his dark lips as he looked to the peppered leader. He watched as Drestig dismissed his second with a soft nudge to her shoulder and then motioning to Laike. With a knowing smile he turned to the blonde Artemieva and nodded, giving the silent Guardian permission to leave with the agouti.

There was a cougar, he murmured, his voice low as he returned his attention to the Fields leader, Kisla and her daughter, Lekalta, attempted to fight the creature off. Her daughter was able to chase the cat away, but not after it attacked Kisla. He took a breath, his tail drooping between his legs. She did not make it.

goddamn right you should be scared

She sensed the tension with she had mentioned that she was the leader. Even in the time that Kisla was alive, she had entrusted Lilya to lead in her stead… it had not seemed like such a big deal to her. She had to remember, not everyone knew the River and it’s complicated web of ideals like she did. They all still shook with the wake of Kisla’s death. It was not something that could ever be forgotten in the Hearthwood. She allowed Lach to explain, a soft frown on her features as her gaze cast upon the ground. Kisla had been a good friend to her, and had helped her through a time in which Lilya was not sure of who she was. It had been a mix of running into both Kisla and Lachesis that had pushed her to join the River to begin with. And now? She could not imagine her life without it.

Ah’m sorry… Ah know she thought th’world of you and Jessie both… She had conversations with Jessie in the past, and she knew the back story between the two packs, the alliance that was forged by familial ties… she trusted they would grieve just as the River had.

Adelayde Artemieva
Scout dem 3/3

Hearing the start of the conversation, she knew this was going to lead eventually to somber discussion of the loss of the River pack's matriarch. Though she did not know the female personally, she could never wish death on someone especially so early in life. Her mismatched eyes strayed to Laike, but she was respectful not to let their budding relationship draw attention. However, it seemed Drestig was more attentive then she was led to believe as his nose nudged her shoulder before his eyes flickered to her pale friend. He was quietly giving her permission to spend time with Laike and once Lachesis gave him permission as well, Adelayde happily joined her blonde lover to retreat further into the sequoia forest.

Adding on a quick fade so this can be archived.

He hated being the bearer of bad news—it had never been something he was good at. Like Lilya had said, the fallen matriarch had been quite fond of their western neighbours and had fought for an alliance between the two packs (despite Lachesis’ initial hesitation). He intended to uphold that alliance, even if she no longer led beside him. It was the least he could do to honour her memory. Plus, he’d grown quite fond of the Rye wolves; there was no hostility toward them. Not when they lived in the stretch of tundra. ”Come,” he added, motioning for the older male to follow him with a flick of his nose, ”take a walk with us. We’ll tell you more of what happened…” He offered the dark male a soft, almost sad, smile as he began walking along the edge of the Hearthwood territory with his mate at his side… Lachesis figured the tawny Artemevia would want some alone time with the Rye scout.

- Fade, thread complete.
