And then you get up and get up and get up again

Remi was glad to see Reyes had not been far behind her. More so, that he got straight to the point on what they were going to do. His words would carry more weight, and it was a plan she could get behind. Maybe, he'd even dealt with something like this. Since everyone was on the same page, she kept on outside of the group, near Sachiel and Hawthorne to be a buffer of sorts. Confident, she used her voice as loud and obnoxiously as she could. Her brothers had taught her that a little too well. She started with high yaps like when they teased the coyotes, and then dropped to her more natural bark. Sometimes adding in a snarl, her silver coat becoming bushy to help with intimidation. They had the bears attention, and a few of the young, unseasoned ones were already shifting away from the water. Looking a little worried and confused. Good.

Closer her lips raised, and her teeth clicked in warning, but there seemed to be one bear who was not yet wary of the wolves. He was not quite the largest, but still pretty fat, and his legs seemed stiff. If he was set on not quite giving up his fishing hole. Well, he would wish he had went to bed.

Sachiel Leigh Selwyn

His mismatched gaze remained focused on the bears, his toes curling into the soft ground as he continued to bark in their direction. There was only five of them, technically four as he and Pumpkin Eyes could count as one wolf; they were definitely outnumbered when it came to the bears. They needed to sound bigger. Give the impression that there were more of them hidden in the trees, waiting to spring into action…

His ears twitched at Reyes’ praise but his gaze did not sway. He could bask in the rare Reyes praise later, when they were facing off against a few bears. They had just claimed this land as their own! They weren’t going to let some grumpy, tired bears chase them away.

A soft smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as he worked to blend his voice with Pumpkin Eyes’. Just because they were smaller than their packmates didn’t mean they were any less mighty… he hoped. But the plan was starting to work! Some of the bears were shuffling away from the river, fish dangling from their mouths as they began to retreat into the trees. Good riddance! But there was one bear in particular that hadn’t moved, which earned a louder, deeper bark from the young Leigh.

Askan Selwyn
hope y'all dont mind the minor PP

Askan had never thought to ask-nor did he think they could respond- but did bears have culture ? Was it just the prospect of food that had brought them here, or had they heard through the bear grapevine that this was a nice spot to chill? He imagined it was the former, but shit, either way they were going to learn the had way that they weren't welcome here.

As the others had noticed, a few of the smaller, unseasoned bears began to make a careful retreat. Toddling away with their proverbial tails between their legs...as their real tails were so short and stumpy. There was a big one though, it was hard for Askan to tell from his distance but he/it, whatever, appeared to have a scarred snout. Almost like Reyes but not nearly as handsome. Battle hardened, a brute of a black bear, if Askan had ever seen one. One by one the others trickled away like a slow flowing stream, heading south where they would no longer be their problem.

But that old bastard, scarface didn't move an inch. His dark gaze scanned the trees and made Askan's hackles stand all the more on point, almost as though he'd heard the rumble of his uncle's voice right next to his ear.

Fine. If he didn't want to do this the easy way then they'd crank things up a notch. Confident that the other bears had left and had no intentions of coming back Askan stepped forward out of of the cover of trees. They weren't going to fight the damn thing, as tempting as it was, but it was becoming evident that they had to give the beast a nudge or two before it heard their message loud and clear.

"Hawthorne, Sachiel. Hang back."He rumbled, his gaze lingering on one pup then the next, his stare as heavy as lead. Like hell he'd let them get involved. "Reyes, Rem, let's see if we can persaude this bastard to leave huh?" His grin was wicked and his eyes shone bright as his heart raced in his chest. He hadn't felt this alive in a while. About damn time.

With each step forward the Edge Lord drew closer to the bear, who turned warily to face it's...opponents, was the best word Askan could think of. It clearly hadn't expected them to face it head on, the bear stepped back a little, if it did so again it would plunge into the depths of the Shallows. Bears were good swimmers right? Because maybe if it didn't leave they could try to drown it, wouldn't that be something out of the ordinary? Askan took another thudding step forward, Reyes and Rem either side then- with an undignified beary yelp the beast turned tail and ran, it's fat butt jiggling as it went.

Huh.

Askan gawped, his tail going limp between his legs before he snapped his jaws with a click. He hadn't seen that coming...not in the least. Though he supposed black bears were cowardly, even scarred ones.

Sachiel Leigh Selwyn

Most of the bears continued to waddle away, dismissing the river and fresh fish swimming beneath the surface. There were plenty of other watering holes for them to purge. But the larger one still did not budge. His brows pinched tight in frustration as he glanced over at Askan, his eyes glossy with worry. They still outnumbered scarface but the creature was much larger than all of them, with paws as big as Sachiel’s head!

At his leader’s words Sachiel took a step back, his tail drooping as his jaw went slack and his barking ceased. What did the grumpy Edge Lord have planned? Surely he wasn’t planning on attacking the creature? He wasn’t that stupid… was he? The boy watched as the trio stomped toward scarface, his heart thumping so erratically Sachiel was positive it was about to leap out of his chest. The bear, however, stumbled backward, clearly wary of the wolves approaching it. For a fleeting moment Sachiel was positive that the creature was about to charge. His eyes widened with fear as he glanced over at his age-mate, unsure what to do. But the strange yelp caused his head to snap back. The bear… the bear was running? An excited yelp escaped him as he jumped forward, bounding toward his older packmates. An’ don’t come back! He called out before sticking his tongue out at the chubby creature. The Edge wolves weren’t scared of no bears!

Reyes

That was…weird. Unexpected. Yes, definitely unexpected.

Which wasn’t to say Reyes had a great deal of experience dealing with bears, exactly. He had no idea what to expect. But they were apex predators, not unlike the wolves themselves, and he had imagined they would put up…more of a fight. The wolf did not stop his barking (just in case they got the wrong idea and turned around), but narrowed pale silver eyes as large, jiggly bodies slowly turned and started to disappear back from whence they’d come. They would have to run patrols. A lot of patrols.

Couldn’t afford those fuckers coming in and out as they pleased. What if they brought friends? What if they realized the pack was small? What if they didn’t leave next time?

Yeah, way too many what-ifs to make him comfortable. He’d have to deal with it. Later, though.

“Good work, everybody.”

And then you get up and get up and get up again

Remi was impressed with the young pair. Working together, and not even an ounce of fear. But, she did not think to tell them so. Her attention remained on the scarred up brute. He looked like trouble. Maybe he wanted more scars to match?

Remi was grateful she didn't need to make a decision about what next. Askan was on it like always. "Right!" She agreed, not positive what he had in mind. It was easy to trust he did, and to stick by his side. With the three of them lined up they met the bear not quite toe to toe. Close enough he seemed to realize just who he was dealing with. If it were not for the serious of the situation she would have laughed as the great beast took off. Instead she kept up a torrent of angry barks.

"That's right!" She hollered after Sachiel, glad they hadn't had to do more. Reyes praise appreciated. Not bad at all, she thought. Hopefully they'd think twice before settling over here again.
