She’d travelled for a year now, missed the birth of at least one litter of siblings, wondered if she might have missed more. Mona barely found it within herself to care. Things would be different, of course, but she knew she would be welcomed home with open arms and maybe even given preferential treatment after her long absence. Her parents had been so sad when she left and here she was, returning to them! And none worse for wear. She had her secrets she would never share of course, but they didn’t need to know that. She was proficient at lying.
Her lips pulled back in a feral grin at the thought of the look on her sister’s face when she saw her at the borders. Mona would have so many fun experiences and stories to tell, to enthrall the others with, and Magg had just been home the whole time, being a good little girl. Well, Mona had more experience. She could make herself more useful to the pack now. She would quickly surpass her siblings and win her way into her parents’ confidence.
Plans churned in her head, visions of grandeur swimming before her eyes.
Yes, much had changed, but more would be changing soon.
