Her frown returned as the boy mentioned his mother, her ears sweeping the side. She did not know if that was a good sign or a bad one. He sounded fairly normally, but the words that accompanied his voice did not. But she didn’t know how to ask if he was coping with the death of his mother. Or if it was even appropriate to ask. Things had changed in Hearthwood after the death of the matriarch. Her children, the adults, the other cubs… everything was different now. Most of them had moved forward but Théo… Lavender didn’t know what to think. He appeared to be stuck in the middle. Not sad, but not better either. Just void; indifferent. Probably quiet, she responded with a soft shrug, but I suppose they talk to each other. Make it a little less quiet. She didn’t know what else to say. The idea of ghosts was a little grim, but it was better than thinking that loved ones completely disappeared once they died. That, instead, they watched over their families and friends.
