Caelyn Macieo-Tainn

Feeling his sister pressing against him, the silver agouti boy leaned into her, hoping to find comfort of his own with her too. All the words coming from his Aunt were more and more confusing as he tried to wrap his head around what she was saying. Why did Sirius die? Was it something they didn't do? Didn't play with him enough or include him enough? Or was it because he didn't have a dad too?

The questions boiled within him, but he kept quiet as he listened to Woya try to explain. When she admitted she was scared there was something that took away or hurt their dad, he too couldn't help the tears that flooded from his eyes. Marrah's questions volleyed back to Woya, her despair clear within her voice. He was slowly becoming numb as he was hung up on the idea of something hurting or taking away his dad so he couldn't come back to them. Why would they do that? The tears that flooded from his eyes soon became frozen against his cheeks as Marrah left his side and flopped down into the snow. Caelyn sat where he was, frozen.

Marrah shouted back a perfectly reasonable follow-up question, and Woya said nothing rather than admit the truth. Thankfully, the young girl didn't press the matter, but it wasn't as though she moved on to anything much better. The woman had no idea why Sirius and Enera didn't have a father - it hadn't been her business, and in more ways than one it wasn't Marrah's either but of course that was also something she would not bluntly tell her niece. She would have kept trying to answer, but it all culminated with that horrible word, and she cringed rather than spoke as the child threw herself to the ground and Caelyn disappeared into himself.

There was an impulse to correct Marrah, to protect Hudson against such a strong claim, but she swallowed it swiftly. For once in her life, she had wolves more important to her than her brother to think of.

Woya stepped forward and did her best to hug them both, nudging Cae down to encourage him to snuggle into his sister before curling up with Marrah. If they allowed her to, she would hold them and provide them her warmth and whatever amount of comfort was possible for her to give. She didn't know what to say, didn't know how to do this at all.

"I'm so sorry. I would change everything for you if I could."

But she couldn't. All she could was what she did now - simply be present herself.
