Lauraceae Ritter
Laurel stumbled, eventually crashing to the ground. He felt fangs on his flank and a small yelp escaped him. He saw another coyote, and then another. Vaken's jaw slacked and announced that their fight was over. Anger continued to bubble in his chest; he wasn't willing to let their fight end just yet. In a draw, of all things! He tried to regain himself. More coyotes appeared. He almost wanted to laugh -- he could swear there was ten of them. At least ten of them.

Laurel dove for the bone. A coyote did too. The creature's jaws wrapped around Laurel's face, reopening old wounds. Blood flowed down his face as he clenched his jaws around the bone, forcefully shoving the coyote out of the way. He shot a glare at Vaken, but stood proud, showing off the bone — his bone now.

More coyotes approached, but Laurel waited, watching the other yearling closely.

Vaken Svart

Vaken watched as the wolf leapt for the bone, giving a coyote a strong shove. He really wasn’t going to give up, was he? The small yearling couldn’t stop himself from giving a small smirk at the other wolf’s determination. It was idiotic and dangerous, but it was brave. Vaken had to give him that. Despite the admiration, Vaken didn’t dare get involved. It wasn’t in his nature to be petty, especially in the face of danger. He wasn’t going to put his health on the line for the leftover drops of bone marrow. When the other male did, Vaken just shook his head in bewilderment.

There were too many coyotes. Vaken was too smart to risk his luck. He had an already eventful day, and he was tired. He wasn’t wounded badly, but he was physically drained from the strain on his body. It was time to call it quits. The energy it would take to retrieve the bone was far more than the bone or pride was worth.

Backing up slowly, Vaken nodded at the other wolf as if to say you deserve it. He kept his tail high and his ears forward, still asserting some dominance. He longed to finish the battle, to pin the other wolf and make him submit, but it was over. He wasn’t going to risk fighting another lone wolf and a pack of coyotes. He bared his teeth a little, half smiling, half growling. “Better hope that doesn’t get infected,” he snidely laughed.

And with that, Vaken turned and ran. Using all the energy he had left, Vaken abandoned the other stray wolf with the coyote pack. He propelled himself into the dense forest with long quick strides, not looking back to see if he was followed. He knew the coyotes wouldn’t be able to keep up with him even if they tried. As for the other male? Vaken didn’t care. He could stay behind and try and defend the bone from a pack of snarling mangy mutts if it meant so much to him.

Lauraceae Ritter
What could he do, but fight? He had nothing. No friends, no family, no one out for him but himself. And the coyotes — the damned, awful things that kept taking things from him. They'd forced him to stay in Relic Lore and continued to rip everything from him. Not just food, but rest. How could he sleep with their yappy howling and their stench? Vaken made one more remark and Lauraceae viciously snarled in return. The coyote he'd shoved off approached him again, and Laurel watched as the male ran off.

Then he was alone.

If being caught in the middle of too many coyotes could be considered alone. The adrenaline was starting to ebb away, he stopped feeling so fearless. More of the foul canines approached. One finally jumped at him, grabbing the bone and attempting to tug it out of his mouth. Laurel held on for a while, desperate for something to eat. It was barely anything, and by now it felt like the coyotes were only out to make things ten times harder for him.

One of the canines slammed into his side. He saw pairs of eyes and yellow, snarling teeth. He was forced to let go, snapping at another coyote. He could taste blood. A sharp pain in his side as teeth raked across his skin. Angry tears stung his eyes and he quickly backed away from them. The coyote that stole his bone was playing keepaway with its friends. A jaw snapped close right next to his face and Laurel flinched away.

Facing the fact that he had lost, he tucked his tail and ran.

— Exit Laurel!
