set at dusk
It was so freaking cold. Of course, it had been cold before, but it had begun to get warmer before this happened. Snow flurries drifted down through tree branches overhead, nipping and chilling her nose and paws. But Ris liked the cold. It was nice and pretty and simple, and not complicated and scary and confusing like the pack was at the moment. She couldn’t stand all the smells and irritated wolves and confinement, and she had needed to get out.
The girl had found this big waterfall only moments ago, but she was determined to rest around there for the night. It was too cold to go much further, and her paw pads were already cracked and bleeding from the trek on the mountains. So she settled down among the roots of a tree near the rapidly-freezing pool of water at the base of the falls.
Risaela sighed as she licked her bloody paws, unaware that she had left crimson footprints behind her in the crisp snow. The waterfall was drowning out potential sounds that might alert her to any nearby predators, but she was far too tired to think that far ahead at the moment.
She just needed rest.
