There are only two ways to live your life: as though nothing is a miracle, or as though everything is a miracle.

@Askan

The landscape was changing, it seemed that the world around the young wolf was as well. Daesamar paused and stood on a large rock, the massive mountain he called home laid behind him. Standing on the east side he looked out at the world, the pack’s borders were sound and with the coyotes gone it gave him a chance to clear his head with a walk away from his home. The snow was falling, lightly accumulating against his black and grey pel. It added a white powdery dusting to his dark form. Thankfully wit his thickening pelt the cold wasn’t too much of an issue. Exhaling slowly and watching his breath appear brought back old. Nearly a year ago he had entered this land and now here he stood, bigger, stronger and far more confident then he had been.

He stepped down off of his perch, his pawsteps crunching softly against the snow as he started to move. The ground here was rugged and uneven. The trees starting to droop with the piling snow. As he walked he wondered about things. What would happen to the Tarn? Would @Odin and @Jenessa return home? Would there even be a home for them to return to? If things did go south, then what would @Cheedo do? Daesamar wasn’t too worried about himself. He knew he could try a few different places, a couple of packs came to mind. He wasn’t going to leave his friends though.

That brought up another worry. IT had become a pattern the youth had discovered. Almost every wolf he had met and trusted, walked out of his life. He never mentioned it and hesitant to, he was worried. Would the same happen with his packmates? Surely they could start over somewhere else together. Sighing softly Daesamar gave his head a shake and sharply inhaled the cold air to clear his head. He came out this way to try and get away from these worries for a bit. He heard something and paused.

It was running water, a creek or stream by the sound of it. Licking his lips he started toward it. A cold drink would do wonders for him right now. Finding it a few minutes later Daesamar paused beside it. Looking at his reflection he thought about some of the earliest wolves he had met many months ago. He had met a few of them beside streams like this. Those times had been so much easier. He had only himself to worry about. He had also been alone. He knew he wouldn’t have traded any of his past for a chance to change things. The chances were rare but, he had met a few good wolves and he knew those times would always stay with him.

Lowering himself down, Daesamar drank his fill. He shuddered as the cold water splashed his throat. It felt good and once he finished he settled down beside the water. Closing his eyes and listening to the soft bubble of the water running past as the snow kept falling and dissolving or flowing down with the water before dissolving.

Askan Selwyn
I don't care if heaven won't take me back

The cold was here. Seeing as Askan had practically melted into a puddle of brown goop in the summer he was fine with this, it was easier to warm up than cool down. Still, he couldn't help but feel a little...worried for his mate. He'd been pretty distant as of late and the changing of seasons would only magnify that. Idly, the Selwyn wondered if he'd done something wrong. If Reyes had grown bored of him, no longer wanted to lead by his side.

Such thoughts soured his mood, made his eyes crease at the corners as he stomped along. Specks of snow landed on the length of his spine as his tail lashed from side to side. What was he even supposed to do? Reyes wasn't even talking to him, just brooding in the shadows and returning to their den if and when he felt like it. Sometimes it felt like he was mated with a ghost, that he was trying his best and not getting much out of it in return. Siiigh.

In his wanderings Askan soon found himself in a familiar location. Wasn't this where he'd met...Vakoon? Vakey? He couldn't remember, didn't really care to. Yet again, there was a wolf by the waterside. Dark this time, with silvery eyes and a dappled coat. Like Reyes, almost. The Edge Lord remained there for a moment, ears stiff and lips down turned in a sharp grimace. From scent alone he knew they weren't a loner, but as far as he could tell  there weren't any packs in this region. Time to figure it all out, he supposed.

"Oi," was all he said, in way of greeting.

Slowly Daesamar opened his eyes when he heard the short and gruff greeting. Having not expected to run into anyone else he had let his guard down. Looking over his shoulder he spotted the earthen toned wolf. Sniffing the air, he could smell the pack scent drifting across the air. Briefly, Daesamar wondered if he had come too close to this wolf’s territory for the newcomer’s comfort. Or if he was just passing by and was as curious as the Yearling was. Silently he berated himself for knowing very little information about the packs out this way. Asking around the Tarn might have done him some good. He opened his mouth to greet the other male when he caught his scent again.

It was familiar, he had spent enough nights in the company of @Lyanna to recognize how her pack smelled. He debated on mentioning her or not before weighing against it, maybe if things got hairy he could, but until then he saw no reason to. He pulled himself to his paws and turned to face Askan before dipping his head slightly, making sure he kept his posture neutral. “Evening sir, Names Daesamar, was there something I could help you with?” He defiantly didn;t want to cause any trouble being on his own and hopefully the stranger wasn’t one itching for a fight.

Askan Selwyn

Askan huffed, his jowls twitching as he regarded the strangers words. A bit of a brown nose huh? Or overly polite, it was so hard to tell these days. Strangers were still a mystery to the Edge Lord, even those he was familiar with threw him out of the loop sometimes. They could all be so changeable, but he supposed that was fine as folk would be awfully boring if they were predictable. Instead he shrugged his hefty shoulders, he didn't need help least of all from him.

"Not really." He grumbled, as gruff and as brash as ever."You're not from Oak Tree Bend." Obviously. "So where?"

Lyanna had told him about the pack over the mountain, somewhere beyond those tall grey peaks. The Selwyn hadn't cared enough to send an envoy, there wasn't much of a point. The mountain was the perfect barrier, something to keep his pack separate from whatever went on in the west side of the Lore. As far as he was concerned he had reached out to all the packs he needed to, sending scouts out to everyone and their aunt really did seem like overkill. And desperate, he'd mocked other packs for doing it before so he damn well wasn't going to start now.

Striding forward, Askan found himself once again by the riverside, parallel to...whatever his name was.. Soon it would freeze over. He couldn't help but idly wonder if the ice would be thick enough to walk across, whether any other beasts would get trapped beneath the ice, like they had in Secluded Spring.

There are only two ways to live your life: as though nothing is a miracle, or as though everything is a miracle.

The stranger was blunt, gruff and a man of few words. He reminded Daesamar both of his father and @Garmir back when they had first met at the start of the last winter. His crooked right ear flicked at the mention of a pack. The name Oak Tree Bend didn’t ring any bells and he frowned, creasing his eyebrows while glancing out at the water. Hesitant at first he eventually spoke the truth, he didn’t see where lying would be of any use. He gestured over his shoulder toward the mountain with his nose.

“My pack’s up there on the mountain.” He said quietly, wondering if it’d even be his pack for much longer with all the wolves leaving or missing. “Came out this way to clear my head.”

The young wolf gave the dark-furred man another quick look over when he came closer before swallowing. Clearly, he came from this side of the mountain. He might even know of the wolf Cheedo said may be able to help teach him about healing. Pausing incase Askan lowered his head to take a drink. Once he was sure he wasn’t Daesamar stood up and leaned down in a long low stretch. “Do you know of a pack called Driftwood Surge by chance? I’m looking for someone named @Lachesis from there.”

Askan Selwyn

Askan looked up to the mountain. Hm, so it was as he'd assumed, there was a pack up there. His nose wrinkled at the thought as he turned, deliberately putting the mountain behind him. That part of his life was over, dead and gone. It was easier that way, dwelling on the past made it difficult to stomach, to get up in the morning. The Selwyn listened but he didn't particularly care that the stranger was out clearing his head. To each their own and all that. What he did care about was Driftwood Surge and his friend-bro- Lachesis.

His ears perked and he turned a little, brows arched as he nodded.

"I do, yeah. He uttered slowly, carefully.

The fact that the yearling knew of the pack wasn't really a cause for concern. Nor did he think the boy could post any real threat to his allies, but still he couldn't help but wonder how he knew of the Surge when he lived so far away. Whatever, wolves could travel. Maybe they'd scouted out their far neighbours or something.

"Off to the north, by the lake but near the mountain. Keep following this side and you'll find it within a day or two."

Daesamar Silverveil
The yearling hadn’t actually expected the other man to know the answer to his question. Where Askan spoke cautiously, his tail wagged and he perked up and listened intently. The northern side of the mountain? All this time they had been this close and he hadn’t even realized it. He gave a small yip of excitement and grinned. Nodding his thanks he turned and looked up toward the north.

“Thanks, when things settle I’ll have to seek them out.” Daesamar grinned before he settled back down and turned his attention back onto Askan. “Your pack, there’s a wolf I know, she carried your scent for a while, Lyanna, is she still in your ranks sir?” It had been a while since he had seen his friend. Daesamar didn't want to admit it, but his feelings for her had started to wane with the Tarn’s need of him. Now, he was sure he could come to enjoy the closeness he could share with her and that was all. Ir was a nice reprieve from the hecticness of life.

Askan Selwyn

Askan expected as much. Why else would he have asked? What he didn't expect was the name that slipped from Daesamar's lips. Lyanna? The Selwyn paused, his brows smushed together as he put the pieces together in his mind. He knew that his Herald wandered a lot, that as a scout it was her duty to travel much further than he did, but had she really crossed the mountain? Either that or Daesamar also had a case of itchy paws, which wouldn't be surprising given his age.

"Yeah, shes' my Herald." He said it offhandedly, but Askan didn't think that she belonged to him in anyway. Not only did that concept seem weird but people were not things to be owned, subordinates or otherwise. "Why?"

It was a natural question, after all it was his duty to protect and serve his subordinates. Sure, the yearling and Lyanna could be friends or something of the like but if something happened to the Cowish-Tainn then it would inadvertently be Askan's fault. Yeah she was sometimes annoying-most of the time, really- but did she deserve to get mauled again? Fuck no.
