RE - Paradise Falls, some sort of mild illness is going around.
AW for one or two others!

He didn’t know why he wasn’t expecting to catch it. It had been a very long time since Riven had had any sort of mundane little illness that it was a surprise to him when he woke up with chills and aches coursing through his body. His throat was sore and his stomach churned, and it didn’t take a genius to know he had a fever.

It was a good thing he’d been keeping his distance from his pack mates, he figured, though part of him wanted the comfort closeness brought. He didn’t really know most of them, and after the ordeal at Isla’s den, he wasn’t as comfortable with Chan as he used to be. It made him miss having either Huddy or @Adelard leading, made him homesick for a place that no longer existed. He couldn’t imagine either of them doing something like that - and at a whelping den, no less.

Riven felt a familiar weight in his chest, thinking of Adelard. It wasn’t that he was purposefully avoiding the man, but he didn’t want to interrupt his guarding Isla’s den - presumably with Ad’s children inside. The healer had no clue why Chan had been so aggressive toward him, but given that it had been after Riven approached him, he had to wonder if the healer had done something wrong, and he didn’t want to step on any more toes.

There still wasn’t any jealousy toward Isla herself. In Riven’s mind, it was only natural for a parent to want to be around to protect and care for their children. Adelard had given him no reason to worry that it was anything more than that, so he wouldn’t.

It didn’t mean he didn’t feel lonely sometimes.

Isolating himself hadn’t helped, but he didn’t want to subject these near-strangers to his anxiety, and he’d coped with it on his own this far.

He groaned as he headed back to the little fallen log he’d been huddling under recently. Throwing up was never pleasant, but at least he hadn’t done so in his sleeping place. It still smelled sour, however, and his stomach made an unhappy noise as he curled back up into a miserable little ball. He wasn’t quite as sick as poor Hazelnut had been, but he also wasn’t giving birth, so at least he had that going for him.

She had started to sniffle and she chalked it up to the spring rains and blooming things. Only it had not subsided. She could not help but worry that it might pass through her to her sons.

Her sons.

Carefully she set them aside from her in the darkest deepest corner of the den where they would be safe. She would only be just outside anyway. Aware that she could not go very far still, nor did she have much of the desire to. Only standing upright and no longer curled up in a corner made her stomach suddenly protest.

Up came whatever she had devoured last, contents murkier by her sickness. She was not sure she wanted to crawl back into her den until she had an answer for this. She pointedly called for Riven and him only. Then slumped down to her stomach, sprawled at the mouth of her own den.

Resigned to wallow in his illness and debating taking some of the precious little pineapple weed he had left remaining in his stores, Riven was not expecting to be called. Confusion muddled his mind and for a moment he just lay still, figuring that he was imagining things. But the call had sounded from nearby, and he recognized the voice, and what if something had happened to the pups?

He was on his feet within moments, the world spinning and stomach clenching in protest. The walk to Isla’s den likely took a bit longer than it usually would, but he did manage to get there. Immediately, his stomach rolled at the scent of vomit, and he had to swallow against the saliva building up in his mouth.

Riven managed not to throw up, but only just. The healer crept over to where Isla lay, a concerned whine leaving his throat. “Isla?” he asked, voice low. “How long have you been sick? What are your… symptoms?” Asking if she was sick was pointless - she was laying near a puddle of vomit. It was probably what he had, himself, but he wanted to be sure exactly what he was dealing with so he could give her proper treatment. It did take him a heartbeat longer to remember the word for symptoms than it usually would, but his world was spinning, so he was grateful he’d gotten the words out at all.

She did not like being tended to, but she told herself that this was for her children. If she passed along an illness to them and they perished then she would never forgive herself.

Few days, maybe. Not long she thought. She hadn't been sick when she had brought the boys into the world. She wondered if it had managed to infect her when she was in a recovery state. Sniffling at first. Now...this. She gestured to where the pile of sickness was nearby. Isla doubted he need to see it clearly or be told more bluntly what kind of symptom that was.

I don't want the children sick.

Her voice was protective and blunt, despite the fact that she sounded very much stuffed up.

For the moment, Riven could put away his own discomfort. Could ignore it and deal with it later. This was his job, and he liked his job. He could work while he was sick - he was sure of it.

A sympathetic smile - more of a grimace, really - graced his expression. "Yeah, that seems to be going around," he said. "I have things to help with it, I just have to... go get them." He swallowed around another bout of nausea and straightened up a little.

I don't want the children sick.

Riven softened a little. He wanted to offer some sort of comfort, but this Isla seemed the more logical sort. So, that's what he went with. "We'll handle it if that becomes an issue," he said, trying to imbue as much confidence as he could into the statement. "Right now, we need to focus on you. They need you to be well above all else."

He blinked slowly at her, his own brain a bit sluggish. "Will you be alright if I go get some things to help you?" he asked.
