Rais’ grey tail bobbed merrily as he walked. While his feet sang with the dull ache of travel, he was still in good spirits. He loved to explore and take in as many new sights as he could. So when he had first entered Relic Lore and saw the mountain range looming in the East, he knew immediately that he had to go there. He was little, young, and relatively inexperienced in the ways of the world, despite his cleverness. Perhaps it wasn’t the wisest idea to try to scale the foothills of the mountain on his own, but nothing would convince the wanderer otherwise. He of course wouldn’t try for the giant Dire Mountain, not today, at least. But the Riddle Heights he could probably manage.

Rais worked his way through the forests and up the gradually steepening slopes. Eventually the coniferous forest that blanketed the base of the hills made way for the rocky crags that made up the peaks. It was tiring work for the young wolf, and frequently he stopped to rest, orange eyes cast backwards over his shoulder to see what progress he had made. He had started his journey up early in the morning, and noon had already came and passed. Rais was about halfway up the foot-hills of Riddle Heights, but already the trees were quite scarce. Brown dusty stone was the main feature up here, the soil washed away by exposure to the elements in all but the most protected folds of the mountain. Here and there a small patch of pine trees could be seen making their bold statement by clinging to the rugged mountainside.

Rais was becoming a bit tired out, but his optimism for the journey had remained strong. He really did want to see what this new land looked like from a bird’s eye view. However, there was no use in him getting so fatigued that he might make a mistake. Up here, one wrong step could have him tumbling down to his death. He moved towards a small copse of scraggly conifers and sat down beneath them. He looked out towards what he could see of Relic Lore, now that he was mostly above the tree-line. Even from this height, it looked amazing. He could see dark shapes, the shadows of clouds, scuttle across the expanse of forests and plains that stretched out westward from the hills. The cool mountain wind ruffled his mottled grey pelt but it felt good against his heated skin. He would just rest here for a little bit, before making the final trek to the peak.

Time for a break from her boredom. Her usual day when she was second-in-command kept her busy and occupied all day long. However, with the new change, she was now spending her lovely days cramped in a den, with puppies. The new Leader was now unable to retreat to her mountain or watch the sun rise and set every day. Now, Ava and her took a puppy to nurse since their birth mother abandoned them. She still hadn't figured out the reason why Naira and Rhysis up a left and she doubted she'd ever find out. The past was the past, however, just like her mate, Tlarx had told her. "Don't wallow in it, Athena. It will drive you crazy." The words of her wise mate. Oh, how she wished she didn't wallow in it, but sadly she was already past the point of crazy. Insanity was almost second nature to her now.

She never showed it, though. She was the master of her emotions, able to let them loose when needed and hold them back when required. Many years of went into this skill and she was glad she could control them. However, at times her emotions got the best of her, but it was never in front of someone she didn't trust. For example, her meeting with Ava went different then what she hoped. She ended up breaking down and telling the black lady her whole past. Now, she could trust that woman with her life and her secrets. The second incident wasn't too long ago. The day she couldn't find Rhysis or Naira, she broke down with Tlarx. She doubted her ability of leader her loved pack, but he was the one to get her back on her feet and give her a nice shove in the ass. Now he was her life long mate that she can share everything with.

The final incident had been on the same day, after the meeting she had with her fellow pack mates. She went to the den afterwards, to nurse the puppies when Tlarx followed her. She later on told him about her past and he again gave her wise words to remember. With everything she has been though, you'd think she'd be a weak, pathetic little thing that cowers away from a mere mouse, but that was not the case. Today, she is a strong, confident woman with a strong sense of moral values. She should not be crossed, however. Her swiftness in fighting and stamina could become fatal if provoked. However, today she hoped she wouldn't need to use those skills.

Today, she felt like going to the southern parts of the mountain range, Riddle Heights. The place where she first spilled her secret to Ava. After about an hour of swift, well practiced maneuvering about the steep surface, she came upon the large rock that Ava and she shared when they bonded. The sun, however, wasn't out to give her untouched white fur warmth. The day was still a little chilly, especially with the wind, but her thick skin didn't mind it. She gracefully leaped up on the boulder, laying down in the same fluid motion. Her fiery eyes searched the Heights, searching for any sign of life. That was when she spotted the mottled grey wolf beneath a patch of conifers. She searched the air for the scent; she found it in now time, male and loner. It didn't seem like he had met up with any wolves lately as his fur showed no sign of it. She made no motion to move, she just waited for the male to make the first move. Her fiery eyes watched his every motion, however, so nothing was going to slip from her.

With no stupid brother to look after and no grouchy father to answer to, he could enjoy himself at his own pace. Rais had always made and followed his own rules, and that put him at constant odds with the strict law of his father. He could almost hear father’s stern voice, demanding to know why he was out climbing mountains, it was too hazardous, and he, no, Trenzi might slip and fall. Wanting to know why he was putting his brother, Trenzi, in such danger. Rais smirked at the thought. There was no father here, no tagalong brother to look out for. He doubted that without "precious" Trenzi at his side, his father wouldn’t even give a damn what Rais did. As long as Trenzi came to no harm, that was all that mattered. Here, alone on the foothills of the mountain, Rais could savor his first tastes of freedom.

Or maybe he wasn’t so alone. He didn’t notice the footsteps or the scent of the wolf also climbing her way along the heights. So he was a surprised when he saw the flicker of white out of the corner of his eye. He didn’t make any motion though, and at first he didn’t even turn to look. His head stayed turned towards the landscape below, but his eyes were watching the white wolf. Lounging on the crag, she made no move and seemed to be watching him right back. Working his nose, he noticed the wind wasn’t blowing the right way for him to get any information on the wolf, just picking up scents of dust and pine.

They couldn’t just watch each other forever though; someone would have to make the first move. And that might as well be him, he thought. He turned his face towards the wolf, gave a crooked grin, and flapped his tail once against the ground in a sort of friendly gesture. “Hello, there!” He called over to her, “Nice day for a climb, huh?”

The man decided to make the first move. Turning his head, the mottled grey male gave her wide goofy grin. At first she thought the boy had to be insane, but after a few seconds of a thoughtless silence she assumed he just might be happy. She didn't know what the boy could be so happy about, but nevertheless she couldn't rain on the kid's parade. She deemed him as not much of a threat and leaped down from her perch with the grace of a well practiced climber.

Her strong limbs carried her easily down the Heights and in no time she was next to the mottled male. "Yes, it sure is." She said, giving the boy a delightful smile. She then turned back towards the landscape in front of them. Oh, how great the view up here was. No wonder this guy tried to climb all the way up here. Unless he wanted something else. "What brings you all the way up here? It had to be a trip for you." She said, glancing at him again before looking back towards the Heights again. Oh, glad she was that she could call this place home.

Rais noted how elegantly she moved down the slope, as if her movements over the rough surface were as natural to her as breathing. What would have taken Rais a couple minutes to carefully scramble across she covered in an instant. He was almost jealous of her skill, thinking of how he might be at the top of the Heights by now, if he could only move that well across the uneven terrain. She stopped next to Rais and agreed with his assessment of the day with a smile in return, before looking back out over the landscape. He remained seated, watching the back of her head as she was looking away. From here he could catch the scent of other wolves on her snowy fur but it didn’t tell him too much, other than she lived with a pack. It

She asked him what he might be doing up here, sparing an amber-eyed glance back in his direction. The question caught him off guard for a moment, but it was a reasonable thing for her to wonder. It probably seemed strange for the young wolf to be climbing up a mountainside alone. He tilted his head as he thought, then looked back towards the woman. “Ha, you could say that,” he replied with a tint of humor, “I really just wanted to see what it was like, up here. I mean, the first thing I noticed when I came here was these mountains. And that big ol’ thing over there.” Rais pointed his black-tipped snout towards the Mountain of Dire. The dappled boy gave it an opposing glare before turning back to face the lady, a pleasant smile on his face.

Post one of soooo many posts to come! Haha <3

Reasonable answer. Curiosity brings you to that. Frankly, she loves the view from Mountain of Dire and curiosity brought her to that wonderful place. She grew up in the mountains, so she knew how to maneuver through the treacherous terrain. She wanted to see if Mountain of Dire was as good as her homeland and so far, it’s better. With her experience in climbing, it had been easy for her to climb up the steep side, but without that experience, curiosity can kill the cat, in this case the wolf.

She laughed softly at the boy’s glare towards her humongous rock. If only he knew the view up there. She would give him a tour, but he wasn’t in the best of shape to be going up against that mountain. He could barely get up the Heights for that matter. “You wouldn’t believe the view up there, though. It’s breathtaking.” She said, glancing back with love and longing in her eyes. Nowhere else would be home to her. This was where her heart lies. “I’m Athena, by the way. Athena Everfall, leader of Poison Path.” She said, looking back at the boy with a light smile on her ebony lips.

Blarg, sorry for the crappy post but I didn't want to put it off any longer >_<

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/bluepups/RaisTable2.png); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; padding-top: 100px; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 20px; text-align:justify;">"Oh! Well nice to meet you, Lady Athena," Rais dipped his head in a polite gesture. He didn't expect to be talking to a wolf of such status. He looked to her amber eyes for a brief moment, before diverting them, considering her again in the new light that she was a leader. He wasn't going to grovel, he was an independent wolf, but it wouldn't hurt to stay off her bad side. "My name is Rais, from nowhere in particular." he said shamelessly.

She had mentioned having been up to the peak herself, and he was curious. Rais knew he would have to climb the mountain himself at some point, or it would drive him crazy. Of all the things would do recklessly, climbing a mountain was not one of them. He wasn't stupid, he knew doing such a thing with his current skills and knowledge would be suicide. "So, you're familiar with the place, right? Got any advice on scaling that thing? Anything I should look out for? I know I just need to practice, at least..." He lifted his paw and stared at the underside, considering the soft black pad covered with tiny nicks from the small distance he had moved up the Heights. He'd need paws much tougher and more sure-footed if he were to accomplish such a feat.
