Rais Rose
Rais watched the pale wolf leave with eyes that were much more perceptive than was appropriate for someone who was supposed to be half scared out of their wits. He kept up with the shaking and shivering, but really, the chase was more exciting than pretending to be frightened. As much fun as it was to watch the men squirm, first at the ghoul and now at a terrified boy, it was difficult from his position to actually do anything. He was too close to Sica, who kept on grumbling and growling, and didn't look happy at all with the duty of babysitting the little brat.

The mottled yearling was pretending to be too wrapped up in watching the gnarled shapes of the surrounding woods, but his senses were intent on the man at his side. Rais played with fire, he knew this, but he didn't like to get burned. He was formulating just how he would slip out of this little prank unscathed. With the tawny male looking just about ready to break Rais' scrawny neak, the boy figured he didn't have much time left to think of something.

The threat of additional demons didn't really scare the rascal, but he shivered as he looked up at the wolf. Just to keep the charade up a moment longer... It was then Rais saw the bristling of hairs along the male's back. The question, or accusation, rather, did not even need to be spoken for the boy to know what the body language had already said. Rais knew what he had to do. He did not answer the accusation, as he knew the wolf must have figured it out. Instead, he sprung up to his feet and in one fluid motion, shoved his shoulder into the wolf and bounced off like a rubber ball, already bounding off through the forest. Dust kicked up as he ran, a silver cloud in the moonlight trailing his path.

With the element of surprise, he thought he had a chance of getting away. His little wiry frame was quite agile, and he was sure if he got a good head start he could probably outrun them. He wasn't entirely sure where the pale wolf had wandered off to, but Rais really hoped he would not run into him again.

hu hu Rais is faster than both of them. xP Ice isn't going to catch him, so if Sica lets him get away too, should Switch and I continue without you? Also if anyone wants something changed in my post, let me know and I'll do it. :)

He shouldn't have left - damn, something was happening. He could feel it like a stab between the eyes, the crack of a spectral whip through the night, electricity running around his body as his fur stood on end and nerves twitched. He had them in his field of vision, the guardian and the victim, but he couldn't hear or properly see what passed between them. He just felt the world shift ever so subtly when suddenly the "wounded" yearling sprung to his feet and seemed to try and shove aside the older male, speeding away. Ice, being as tense as he had been, didn't even think. He just saw what happened, and his paws kicked up the dirt as his blunt claws dug in for traction. The buff male leaned into the movement, trying to accelerate as fast as he possibly could, but it was to no avail - he simply wasn't built for speed, and not even when pushing his limits could he catch up with the fleeing wolf. After some fifty yards he knew it to be a lost cause, and with a strangled curse he slowed down again, before finally winding to a stop. What the hell had just happened? He'd been backtracking Rais's path and all of a sudden he bolted and took off... Something was fishy about it, and his silver eyes narrowed. Was he possessed? Or just mad? Or, what?

Ice turned to look in Sica's direction - he still looked the same, warm and real and tangible. The silver flash of Rais fleeing had disappeared into the many shadowed nooks of the Wildwood, no doubt not to reappear again. Had he been a restless ghost? No - surely not. He had been very real under Ice's nose. The wind blew, and a shiver traveled down the River guardian's spine. Damn, this place was creepy, and now that the adrenaline bled out of his system, he was beginning to feel uncomfortable. Not quite as if something was watching him, but - uncomfortable. Tired and wary. Was there something here, or not?

Shaking his head and blinking in the moonlight, Ice padded across to where Sica was. "What happened?" he asked quietly, not sure what to think. Had he somehow attacked Rais? Surely not. Or had he been the ghost all along, biting him when he dashed past? No - he'd been so confused when Ice first showed up... so surely it wasn't him. But what, who, then? And why had the yearling suddenly bolted like that? Had his demons come back to haunt, only no one else saw them? Frustrated and confused his eyes narrowed, and just to be really certain that Sica was real, he reached out to touch him. A strong, well-muscled shoulder covered by thick fur met his cold nose, the guard hairs tickling his sparse whiskers. Very real.

So what the hell was going on? His questioning, cautious gaze turned to Sica's for a moment, wishing he would know.

<3 sorry Fen.
Thoughts to pounce, to grab the boy by the scuff of his neck and give him a proper scolding with teeth rather than words was what was on Sica's mind. The boy must have realized his charade was coming to an end, and the rogue was about to grab him. Being a lithe thing the boy did not waste time in escaping, rushing into Sica's sturdy form, then shooting off into the woods. He saw a blur of glowing white of the other male take after him. Sica did not make to run. No, he would let the boy go, but forever keep his scent, his works in mind. One day he would return the favor. A wary sigh, his hairs slicked back down, the ones that normally were not unruly, and Sica waited to see if the frosty wolf would return. He was ready to be scolded himself about being nice to the boy, or some damn thing.

The wolf did no such thing as he wandered back, looking more puzzled than they both had to begin with. Sica cast his ears back against his skull, then shrugged his large shoulders. His light colored jaws started to open, when he was being zoned in by the other wolf. A raised brow, he was about to take a step back from that narrowed gaze when he felt a nose brushing along his thick hair. He did not understand what that was for, but placed his raised paw back down. No need to freak himself out again, or go on the defensive. However, he was a bit ready to sit, and get this all out of his system so he sat down. "The boy was playing tricks on us, no ghost but him. He took off when I figured it out," he answered, letting his eyes following the invisible trail the yearling had left. He had to repeat to himself there was no ghost, his mind eventually getting the understanding there was only dead woods here. A built up sigh, he let raise deep in his chest, than swirl from his nostrils in a light wisp of steam. "You often hunt for ghosts?" He asked, with question shaping his mask, while his muzzle carried a grin.

Nothing but the scent of Rais' paws lingered, the only proof that he had been there; the wind didn't blow traces of him to them anymore, neither scent nor sound. Still worked up, he didn't even notice how his scrutiny nearly upset poor Sica, for his mind kept spinning and his gaze kept flickering, from tree to tree and to yet another tree. His sides were heaving, not from exertion but from sampling the air, nose twitching as he tried to, well, figure something out. By his side, the stranger sat down, as if exhausted by the whole ordeal - and once Ice's alert mode switched off, he'd probably be too. "The boy was playing tricks on us, no ghost but him." The River male froze where he was, staring between two thin trees. "Wh- the hell," he muttered after a moment, furrowing his pale brows. Sica had a few more brain cells to rub together than he did, obviously. But then again, it made sense, didn't it? The varied cries, the calls - Rais' scent trail circling this cursed location, and how he, alone, had come spinning out of the darkness... His old wounds, no new, but the fear - you could fake fear, couldn't you? After a moment, Ice heaved a great sigh, allowing the moonlight to steal his tension away. He felt his gaze go dull, the way it did when he relaxed. So. Their "ghost" had just been a boy. How fortunate; that meant that no monster was going to come out of the shadows and eat the pair of them.

"You often hunt for ghosts?" Ice's ears fell back for a moment, then up again, as he turned around to face his companion in the night's adventure. He seemed at peace now, despite having been riled up earlier - maybe knowing that there was nothing out here helped, though that boulder over there still looked like a huge, angry bear. "No," he responded after a moment, a faint grin coming up in response to the male's. "Do you?"

-slow posting budies forever- :P
The young wolf gone, and not much to be done Sica's interest was upon this one. He sparked the dark silver wolf's interest. Since he was no longer worried about demons, and spirits eating his soul he could actually think. His nose told him this wolf was part of a pack, one that had alluring scents that made him want to explore this place. There was no open place to ask, and Sica waited for it all to dawn on his new company. When it did, it did't quite seem it hit like a ton a bricks. One after the other till the paler of the pair figured it at. Rolling his shoulders, he had half a grin. "Just a boy," he murmured, wondering if the other recalled playing such tricks, or lacked the opportunity like Sica. Well, he supposed he had done a couple, but not on strangers. He had never been that bold. Would the boy meet company less tolerant? He couldn't say, and wished for both, which had him silently scolding himself. He shouldn't be cursing things.

The mood of his company shifted, and Sica again had a curious eye if this was more of the wolf, or if he was entirely something else. There was no way to tell, but the hints of humor Sica got in return were enough. He shook his head, a chuckle short but not without mirth escaping his mouth. "No, I tend to want to stay as far away from them as possible. I think I would do a terrible job, I've been lacking catching anything real these days." Sica wasn't scrawny, but had lost some pounds to traveling, and not being able to catch as much as his energy gauge needed. "Half of me would hunt that boy just to return him the favor of making my skin crawl..." Still grinning he didn't really mean harm upon his statement.

Totally. XD Maybe try to wrap this up? It's getting ancient :B

"Just a boy," and Ice snorted. Had he ever been that careless as a boy? No, he thought, and somehow the thought was tinged with sorrow. Was it a product of his rather .. strict, and loveless upbringing, or just a stoic nature? Who am I kidding? Ice wasn't stoic. In fact, he hadn't been serious about anything until he came to Swift River and found he had a duty - a reason, a need, to help pull the weight of the pack. As a yearling and a loner he'd had no one to care about but himself, no reason to settle, to grow up. Perhaps Rais was no different.

But thoughts of his rather algid upbringing - both emotionally and physically - was neither here nor there. Blinking somewhat, he returned to where they were: the Wildwood. In the middle of the night. Having found out their ghosts and demons were tangible, physical, real. He chuckled slightly together with the other male, shaking his thick fur and peering into the dark. "Too bad you can't eat what's not real," he said quietly, sniffing the air, trying to catch scent - of anything. Another laugh escaped him at the threat of hunting Rais down. "I'd like to see that.. maybe we could force him to hunt for you, hm?" He flashed him another grin in the murky darkness. "If you like, I could help you try and catch something tonight. I'm in no hurry to return home."

Sicabutt thanks xD but so true...and finally wrapping up.

The sound indicated he wasn't impressed either. He wasn't a boy who had played tricks, risking to be caught, and harmed for a laugh. Sica may have tempted fate a couple times. He had only teased those with sharp tongues, not teeth to bite him for being a boy. What made that one want he did not know. He gave an off look to the distance shadows, glad to know there was nothing. Yet, he still wanted to find the yearling, but now for different reasons. A pop of his neck, while his head swung to the wolf he did not ask the question or suggest the idea. No, he listened to his voice. Something soothing about hearing anothers. Something to keep him sane as it was not his own.

Sica perked up, "Yes, life's a funny thing." If the air would give him more than breath, he would have swallowed and swallowed. The fall of laughter, the edge of his tail began to wag, and he laughed at the suggestion. "If only," he mumbled, feeling that boy would streak through the woods at either site of them. Sica wasn't exactly built for speed. The offer of finding him a meal was too good to pass up. "I would appreciate that." He let the silver male lead the way, feeling he would have something for his stomach tonight.
