Cool, still night.

The pack was gone. She felt like total and complete crap. She was not lily-livered, no, but hurt. She felt slowed down... almost as if time was barely passing. Keeping her head out of the clouds, the tawny coated woman plodded around quietly. Her emerald eyes peered through the dark as she crept through the woods. A pair of crows watched with beady eyes as she padded beneath the tree they resided in. With loud cawing from both of them, they sprung from the branch they sat upon. With her eyes widening, Pakuna shrunk back, lips immediately rising and teeth baring.

Once she realized what had happened, she shook her head, cursing under her breath. With her hackles smoothing back, she rose back up, continuing along. The night was eerie; or so it seemed that way in this part of the forest. But why? She turned her head to the left, thinking she saw a large owl in a tree- but it was nothing. After those crows, there was nothing to be heard or smelled. It was very odd indeed.

With a small frown tugging at her dark lips, Pakuna grew slow in her pace, almost dragging herself along. The silence was beginning to bother her. Something ahead caught her eye- it was something pale. The wane coloring made her curious, reeling her in like a fish on a hook. Tail raising, Pakuna tilted her head as she approached a small clearing in the trees. "...What?"

That was all she managed to spit out. Before her lie many a bone, from what, she had no idea. Skulls, femurs, ribcages...they were all there. How had she never noticed this before? They smelled of nothing. There was no flesh still upon any pale bone. It was like they had been here forever....

Lowering her nose, Pakuna began to walk carefully upon the bones, sniffing at them. Her ears pressed against her head as she did so. This was so creepy. She wanted to leave, but she was so intrigued that she remained where she was.

Destin McBain
It had been a terrible night. This adventure was as worse as Destin thought it would be. Along the way of following Shadowstorm he had gotten sidetracked. Extremely sidetracked, or so it seemed. He had barely gotten any further, but even though he began following Shadowstorm's trail, he still hung around Copper Rock Creek territory for a couple of days. Every day he thought of going back to find Nina, but the fear of being reprimanded seemed too great. His current <span class='word'>lily-livered</span> nature in every situation disgusted him and especially now as he was wandering through the woods he did not know the name of. He realized he should have asked directions from Nina beforehand, even though he was leaving she would surely help him. Shadowstorm's trail was fainter now, and so Destin was lost.

Every sound and crack of a twig made him jump out of his skin. The old scary stories his siblings had told around this time of year came back to him now. Stories filled with murder and wolves gone crazy replayed back in his mind. Golden eyes flicked back and forth on the left and right of him as he walked slowly through the dark depths of the woods. His breathing grew heavier as he continued. The moon shone high above him, barely filtering through the leaves and branches above. Somewhere close by he heard the flapping of wings and cawing of crows as they lifted from the sky, likely being scared by...something. Instantly on alert, Destin creeped along further. Suddenly a white color caught his eye. It was pearly and bright because of the reflection of the moon on their smooth surfaces. Despite thinking better of doing so, he walked towards them. Perhaps there was a wolf here who could help him? Breaking slowly through the brush, he recoiled in horror as he viewed what laid before him. A wide expanse of bones from every animal it seemed to be imaginable- all picked clean. A choice ghost story filled his mind as he looked upward, catching sight of a wolf nearby. A woof of surprise and fear seemed to leap from his jaws. Trying to move his legs, he couldn't. He was stuck standing there, too scared to even breath. Wide eyes open in terror, no other sound came from him. Destin realized he was done for.

Pakuna remained cautious as she sniffed about. With her hackles rising in anxiety, she began to walk gingerly across the bones. Pausing for a moment, she eyed a buck's skull that sat neatly atop of smaller bones. Its rack of antlers was rather impressive. Lowering her head, she carefully picked it up by a long tine, bringing her head back up before continuing her egg-shell walk. She could hear herself breathing; light yet so loud- or so it seemed. It was just too damn quiet.

A startled woof broke the rhythm of her breathing. Surprised, Pakuna lost her balanced, dropping the skull and tripping over bones. Sharp pains ran from her paws up her limbs before she landed on her rear. With an angered snarl, the older woman rose back up, shaking her coat out before snapping her head to the side. Emerald eyes narrowing, she glared at a wolf that stood frightened. He looked like he had just seen a ghost!

With a grunt, Pakuna shook her head. "Hell is the matter with ye?" She hissed rather quietly, ears flattening for a moment. She exhaled, trying to relax. After her heart rate decreased, she sighed. "Ye nearly scared me outta me pelt, I tell ye!"

Destin was taken aback by the specter who met his gaze after tumbling over some bones. She was extremely angry at him and seemed like she had hurt herself, which confused Destin because how could one hurt oneself if you were already deceased? The thought confused him for a moment before the realization dawned on him- perhaps she was not a ghost after all? Yet this idea scared him even more because the wolf was still aggressive as ever and much more real than a see-through spirit. His ears flattened as the she-wolf began to yell at him. He took it, mostly because of the fact that he still had not gotten the feeling in his legs back. Destin felt foolish, like a pup being reprimanded for doing something stupid. His golden eyes looked up wide at her, tail between his legs.

Her accent confused him, he had never heard a manner of speaking like hers before. Nor had he heard such abusive language, for he had not been brought up that way at all. A polite wolf he was, a polite wolf he always would be. It seemed this wolf was not brought up the same way. <b>"I-I apologize, ma'am."</b> He managed to get out as the stranger seemed to calm down slightly while breathing in deeply.<b>"You scared me too."</b> Destin said, and his body language surely showed it. <b>"I thought you were a ghost! Are you okay, ma'am, I am sorry for startling you- I hope you're not hurt!"</b> Suddenly he shivered, realizing where he was, exactly: in a dark, dangerous wood teaming with dead animal bones and speaking to a wolf that may or may not be a ghost and almost flayed him with her claws.

The wolf now before her obviously meant no harm. Though her eyes remained weary, Pakuna seemed a lot calmer than she had been moments ago. With a frown, she shook her head "Ye be ok. I be a wee bit scratched up, notin' serious. Guess we both had a tad scare, eh?" It was a bit funny. They had both startled each other, caught up in the moment of gazing at the bones. At the frightened wolf's ghost comment, the brown coated woman snorted "No such ting as ghosts, boyo."

At least she didn't think there was. Who was she to know, though? She was a skeptic. Perhaps she would change her mind if she actually did see one appear before her emerald gaze. With those thoughts fleeting, she shifted her body now, feeling her paw grow sore. With fluid action, she loped toward the edge of the bones, bringing herself onto the grasses beside it. It had been a poor decision to walk about the pale bones in the first place.

"Odd stuff, eh?" She asked the younger wolf, now seating herself in the grass. Ah. It felt nice. She looked up at the wolf, hoping he would calm his nerves a bit.

He noticed the strange female wolf calm down a bit more. She seemed to clearly not worry about him much and didn't think of him as a threat. Yet, Destin was still a bit unnerved. Wild thoughts ran through his mind. The male wolf simply nodded at her 'question', as even he knew it didn't really need an answer. He still showed concern in his gaze at the female, now more comfortable with her but still had not completely recovered. She had been clearly injured, and even though she said she was fine was it actually true? It was his fault it happened too; maybe if he had seen her before looking at the bones he would not have been so startled.

At her comment regarding ghosts he shrugged. He didn't believe there were no ghosts and had seen some strange coincidences and believed almost anything was possible, which was very naive of him. But this was probably more because of what his siblings had told him about the horrors and spirits of the world instead of long nights spent thinking intensely. That, certainly, Destin didn't do much if at all. Even though he was thinking quite the opposite of the female, he did not mention his doubts though they still showed on his face. Finally he decided to speak after this comment. <b>"How do you know that?" And how would you explain this 'odd stuff' other than ghosts, ma'am?"</b> he asked her. The only idea he could think of for why this could have occurred was an angry poltergeist just wanting to cause trouble. Why else would the graveyard be this large and so downright creepy?

It was then he realized that he had, in fact, gotten the ability to walk again. But now, instead of running away like he wanted to before he instead approached the female with the curious accent. He was not completely calm yet and his careful steps and weary golden eyes conveyed this. His tail hung a bit too low in order to be considered comfortable with the situation. Stepping quickly through the bone yard he soon came to be beside the female and standing close to in front of her. He was not sure if he should sit down beside her and if that would be the right thing, so he remained standing.

Pakuna remained lax as to not cause any unwanted tension between the two. He seemed like a shy younger man, but full of curiosity and polite words to boot. Tilting her head upward toward the waned moon, she shrugged. "I just be knowin' these things, I tell ye. Dunno how dem bones got here, it be odd..." Her emerald eyes flickered back to the wolf that stood a few lengths away from him. With a flick of her fluffed tail, she brought herself to smile. "Ye can sit. Ol' woman like me won't bite ye, I swear." Releasing a slight chuckle, the tawny one shook her head at her own words. Old woman? Oh, please. She was getting up in age, but she wasn't quite there yet.

Taking in a short breath, she now questioned the wolf near her "Ye believe in em, eh, boyo? Ye ever see one before?" Curiosity reigned her tones; her eyes were intently upon him. She wanted to know. Perhaps if he had seen one, her skepticism may change. But these bones? Meh, they were just bones... conveniently piled atop one another... in the middle of the woods...

It was odd, sure. But would ghosts be dancing about them? Hell no.

Destin stood there quietly and listened to the female's words as she responded. Despite him coming closer, she acted quite relaxed. As she looked up at him he was taken aback by the color of her eyes. They were a light green- he had never seen a green-eyed wolf before! Eye colors always seemed to be the first thing he noticed other than their level of politeness and the way they spoke. The male nodded quickly at her as she commented about the bones. The idea that this female was actually a ghost had since passed from his mind and forgotten for now. She definitely would have had knowledge about the bleached bones if she was, wouldn't she?

The flick of her tail made Destin look at her curiously. She then told him he could sit. Thinking it was an invitation, he moved slightly to her side before reclining back into the grass. <b>"Thank you ma'am."</b> he replied softly, his golden eyes looking up at her. Something about her seemed adventurous and knowledgeable and her green eyes had some kind of mischievous glint like she had seen much and had many stories to tell. This attracted Destin, for he loved to listen to stories and tales of days gone by. She then asked him if he had ever seen a ghost before and if he believed in them. <b>"I believe in ghosts, I guess."</b> he said, looking at her for a moment before turning his gaze towards the ground. <b>"I've never seen them though, but my brother said he had... And I've heard a lot of stories. Why wouldn't they exist? Why do you think they don't exist?"</b> he asked her, turning his gaze back to the green-eyed wolf. He couldn't say he wasn't curious about anything this wolf could tell him regarding spirits, or really anything she wished to pass on to him.
