Requiem Kindell

Requiem had been running for so long that she had forgotten to keep an eye on her surroundings, to be honest she had no idea how she managed to get into such peculiar woods. "It's so quiet here..." she mumbled to herself. Her stomach let out a roaring grumble. "How long has it been since I've last eaten anyways?" She slowed her pace, looking now for something to eat, even though she knew she was far to weak to catch anything in her current state. "At this rate I'll die.." she sighed. Getting caught up in that very thought then made her very angry. She couldn't possibly die now. This was her chance to start over, to finally come out on top. She wasn't ever going to let another living creature come out better than her ever again, dying now obviously wouldn't even give her the chance to live by this new promise. "I just have to fucking find something to eat."

She began sniffing around for any signs of other animals around the area. It took a few good minutes, but she did end up finding a trail. "This is going to have to do for now. It's the only thing close enough..." She was so hungry, she had to act fast. She began to follow the scent, as the smell became stronger her adrenaline began to rush, After all, she never really got to hunt that much in previous packs. Especially not alone. The smell was at it's peek, filling her nostrils, her lungs, everything. That's when she saw it, who knew she would get so excited over a tiny little sickly rabbit, but any food was better than starving to death. She began to chase the rabbit, catching up to it rather quickly, now if this rabbit where to of been at it's top level of health it would have gotten away with no doubts what so ever, but unfortunately for the rabbit, and luckily for Requiem, this thing was already on the verge of death anyways. She pounced, clamped her jaws around the animal, grabbed it with her forelegs, and bit the poor things spine, killing it on impact.

Requiem began to pluck the pelt off of her now dead prey, and began devouring it without any hesitation. Her belly quickly began to feel the satisfaction of no longer being empty, and she began to feel more at ease. Now that hunger wasn't an issue, she had to work on getting some rest. Her body absolutely needed time to heal. It was time to look for an old abandoned den. She began walking again, thinking about all that had happened to her the past few days. Out of all of the wolves to attack her, her own mother? All of these wounds covering her body... Her train of thought was then broken by the snapping of branches coming from not to far behind her. She stood her ground.

Nuna tilted her head towards the soft breeze that engulfed her, rustling long tufts of fur on her spine and sending shivers throughout her body. The woods were a nice change of pace for her. She felt the energy of spirits dancing around her, though it was just a bit eerie Nuna enjoyed the company, after all it had been weeks since she'd been around anyone else other than prey. As the breeze tickled her snout a familiar scent put her on high alert- an unfamiliar wolf. The wind now seemed to be accompanied by a negative energy that Nuna couldn't seem to shake. She could tell that wherever the wolf was it was sick or injured. She stuck her nose into the air breathing in deeply the scent of fear. Was it her own apprehension that now enveloped her snout? Adrenaline pumped through her and her next actions were completely based off of instinct.

She looked to her left and her right, sniffing the now still air again. There wasn't much around her to work with as far as vegetation went but the scent of a familiar flower relaxed her growing doubt. Witch hazel. Perfect for healing abrasions. She grabbed a mouth full of the strange looking lemon colored herb. She followed her nose, her nostrils flaring as she became closer, the scent of blood making her nasal cavities sting. She broke out into a run as she spotted a milky colored wolf, hide stained red. She quickly chewed the witch hazel. Not bothering to introduce herself she dropped the plants at the strange wolfs paws.

"Roll around in that." She said, her voice surprisingly calm, soft. The same voice she'd always used when healing someone as to try and calm them. "It's witch hazel. It will help your wounds." Curiosity flamed up inside her but she knew better than to ask where a wolf had acquired such injuries, often times it hurt their pride.

" I'm Nuna by the way," she coaxed, her voice and mind still in healing mode.

Requiem Kindell

Requiem was hesitant at first, should she attack this wolf? Was it an enemy or was it sincere? After gazing at the wolf for a few moment she came to the conclusion that the soothing voice she had spoken in was enough for now. She began to roll in the plant, how stupid must she look right now? What else could she really do at this point though? These wounds where severe, anyone could see that. "Nuna huh? I'm Requiem." She mindlessly scuffed, didn't that sound a little rude to a wolf who just went out of her way to help her? "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound so rude, I do appreciate the help. I'm just in a lot of pain right now.." she sighed. Maybe she could con this wolf into sticking around until she was a little less beat up. It's better to not be alone in an unfamiliar place. "So do you know anything about these woods? Are there many predators around here?" fuck, for all she knew, Nuna could be the predator. She began to glance around, once again hitting realization that she really didn't know where the hell she was. It was so..silent.. And all this fog.. Fog is a weak wolfs worst enemy. What could be hiding in the midst of it? But at the same time, there was something beautiful about this place.. Something.. Spiritual. It was truly relaxing. She closed her eyes for a second before looking back up at Nuna, waiting for answers.

"It's okay," Nuna said patiently "I understand." And she truly did. She had spent so much of her time taking care of injured wolves that couldn't really control their anger or sadness. Requiem's questions had kindled the fire of worry in Nuna's mind again. In truth she had little to no idea where she was. She didn't want to admit that to a wolf in pain, it would likely only cause anxiety, which was the last thing Requiem needed right now.

"I haven't seen any predators, actually I haven't seen anyone, except for you that is," this much was true. The fog seemed to carry a unearthly and mysterious vibe with it making the woods seem almost uninhabited. It didn't seem like the kind of place many wolves, or any other animal for that matter, would deem their home or territory so Nuna assumed they would be safe here, or at least she hoped so. She felt the fur stand up on her spine as she realized how she had left her usually cautious disposition behind. She wouldn't usually assist a stranger but it had been so long since she'd had any type of contact and she couldn't deny her healing nature, even if it was to a random lone wolf. A warm breeze calmed her nagging worry and she sighed in relief.

"Where are you from?" She asked cautiously, her curiosity finally getting the best of her.

Requiem Kindell

"Really? That's good. I mean, in a way. If you haven't really seen anything then there might not be much food here..." It's not like Requiem planned on staying here for long anyways, but for the time being, she would need to eat. But being safe was also important, which one equals out to the better deal in the long run? Who knows. "How long does this plant take to work?" She wondered if she'd have to take regular doses until she was completely healed or if this was a one time thing and she'd be good to go soon. Now that Requiem was out on her own, she would really like to travel the lands. Exploration was never anything allowed in her pack. If you weren't hunting, you stayed on pack grounds. Period.

"Oh uhm, where am I from? Hmm." It was a simple question really, but it made her nervous, and being nervous made her angry. "Like it's any of your fucking business" she wanted to say. That wouldn't necessarily be a proper response to such a small, curious question in the long run though.. And like hell the wolf would stick around if she said something like that. "Well not too far from here I guess, I mean, I ran from my previous home.. And I am injured. I don't really know the exact location though.. My leaders where kind of strict against letting simple information out like that. Or maybe they where just like that with me now that I think about it. I guess you could just say my pack resided in a rather sunny field.. It was beautiful there." She smiled. "Where are you from?"

The eerie fog seemed to swirl around Nuna's paws, it seemed alive, the woods seemed alive, every moan of the trees, every speck of sunlight dancing across the mossy ground. It made her feel at peace. She listened carefully to Requiem's answer as she pondered her own.

"I'm originally from a small pack far north of here," She said pausing to collect her thoughts. "My father, Micco, was an alpha male. My mother, Kai, grew tired of his over bearing ways and the closed minded nature of the pack so her and my grandfather took me away when I was quite young. We spent most of our time searching for better packs. We went through quite a few. We finally settled down in our last pack." She hesitated a whimper stuck in the back of her throat that she dare not let escape. This part of her story always felt like a poniard to her heart. She swallowed hard. She had not admitted her mothers death to anyone, let alone the fact that it was her who couldn't prevent it.

"Long story short," she sighed, "I ended up here."

"You'll need to roll around in the plants a few more times for the wounds to begin to heal well. Once you've done that a little bit of aloe should help to heal them completely. I can go get more herbs now," She suggested. She was happy to leave. Her past only made her bitter and mournful and her growling stomach told her it was time to hunt anyway.

"Are you hungry?"

"Mmm so you've been in more than one pack? Here's a question for you then, are they all the same? I'd love to make my home in another pack one day.. But if they are anything like my previous pack, well, I just can't handle the stress that came with living there again.. I ran away for a reason." It seemed odd to her that she wasn't still traveling with her mother and grandfather, but best not to ask questions, she could tell that Nuna was a little weird about answering in the first place. Although she couldn't help but to be a little curious, maybe she would make a note to ask about it if they ever became closer than just acquaintances.

"Ah really? So I should basically be all better soon? That's good news!" She smiled. Requiem had always felt overpowered and weak, but never quite by this much. The sooner she could heal up the better. "That would be just lovely!" she exclaimed. "I would love to repay you in some way for being so kind to me, but I don't really have much to offer.." she sighed. This was sincere, she really did appreciate the wolfs help for now, but, once again, she hated that she couldn't just go and do these things herself. "Oh uhm.. I am kind of hungry yeah.. But I don't want to be a hassle, I just ate a rabbit not to long ago so if you don't feel like hunting it's really no big deal.." She smiled once more and closed her eyes, trying to soak in some of this beautiful sunlight that today has brought to her. How lucky was she to experience such a beautiful day?

Nuna paused pondering Requiem's questions.

"I've had experience with many packs and with being a lone wolf. It depends on the type of pack you'd like to be in. I've found some that are better than others and they are definitely all different but there's a strange freedom in being a lone wolf that I always seem to miss when I finally join a pack," she said, recalling the many families that she had promised her loyalty, and that she had inevitably failed, or had they really failed her?

"Like I said it's all in what you want out of a pack," she sighed, "As for your wounds it shouldn't be too much longer before they heal. You need rest and you surely need more in you than a rabbit." She thought on Requiem's kind words of repayment but the company of another wolf and the power of being able to heal once more was mostly enough for Nuna. She set off into the deep woods, the weather perfect for a successful hunt. It wasn't long before her adrenaline was pumping. She spotted a medium sized fox which she thought would suffice, especially since she hadn't seen too many other animals since arriving in the first place. She pounced quickly, her speed always giving her an advantage against her prey. It didn't take much to squeeze life from the small fire red creature. She trotted happily back to where she had left Requiem, the fox hanging limply from her stained muzzle.

"Hmm really? Maybe it's for the better if I stay a lone wolf then. I do like my freedom." she sighed. She knew that Nuna most likely wouldn't be around forever, but she did sometimes get lonely. She would probably end up joining a few packs every now and again anyways for the sheer sake of amusement but, it would be nice to keep a few friends around. Friends? What a nice thought to come from Requiem, since when did she need friends anyways. She didn't have any in her previous pack, nobody wanted her. But this is a new start right? I could have friends now... Or will friends only make me weak... Maybe it's better off I think about this more when I'm actually at my maximum strength..

"Rest huh.. Alright, I guess you know best." She let out a slight chuckle and plopped onto the floor of the woods. Truly, it was uncomfortable. She would make a note to find a better place to sleep later on. "Eh I kind of figured but.. I don't now. You are very kind Nuna, I really appreciate this." She watched the wolf dart away, and before you know it, she was.. back again? "Your speed is impeccable Nuna!! Your hunting skills too!" She wondered if she would be able to hunt that fast later on, after all, she was never given the chance to hunt that much back.. home.. The rabbit was actually the first thing she had hunted in months.. Maybe even longer actually. "That fox looks really good.." She subconsciously began to drool a little bit.

Nuna's blood stained maw curved into a smile as Requiem admired her speed. She prided herself on it and she knew it was the only reason she had made it as a lone wolf for so long. She flung the fox to Requiem, it's coat once a firey orange now blotched with bright cherry red. She sighed. They ate in silence, and once Nuna was full she let herself relax. It seemed like it had been years since she shut her eyes, even just for a moment. Without a nagging hunger in her stomach or a ailing wolf to tend to she felt her worries burn away in her mind.

''Yes,'' She finally responded, "Sometimes it is better to be a lone wolf. No one to answer to and no rules."

"But it does get lonely," she continued. She watched Requiem ponder her words. She silently meditated over what would become of both wolves. Would time find them settling down into a family after so long on their own or would they never be able to conform to a pack's often strict rules?

"So, what really brought you here?" Her curiosity had been eating at her since she had met the strange wolf but it wasn't until now as both wolves settled into the blackness of night that she had found the courage to ask.
