Naira Tainn

The large tawny wolf yawned as she surveyed her surroundings. It had been some days since the stupid, stubborn girl had thought her own judgement better than that of a leader. She was grateful that Tenzin had been present, the tawny wolf was a great addition to her pack and quickly on his way to being named a guardian. Rais was a capable provider, whether that be by hunting or scavenging, Mapplethorpe... Well she would wonder about him more once she had given herself a chance to get to know him better... and Romanis?

With a hint of spring on the breeze, if not yet showing in the weather, Naira had her doubts as to whether Valiant would remain with the pack. She would have to take in on herself to shelter the girl from his eventual departure. A heavy sigh escaped her lips.

It wasn’t always easy being queen.

After patrolling for most of the day Mapplethorpe had contemplated the state of the pack, picked the number of scents from the various trails he traversed twice in the past few hours, and checked over the caches he regularly emptied and refilled. Dangling from his jowls, something very different from his usual token, hung over either side of his muzzle. Its purplish scales were dull against its limp body but the size of it was evidence enough to show that the lunker of a salmon was well-past its prime... and an easy meal.

The Advisor scaled up the mountain, his lean limbs scrambling for purchase among the shelves of rocks. When he arrived to the den, he scanned over its immediate surroundings with sharp eyes, perceiving with his alert senses who and what had had the mind to visit the Aquila princesses. There was nothing out of place, however, and Mapplethorpe let out a satisfied sigh, walking about past the den entrance to stow the meal away in case @Naira or either of the girls wanted to make a midnight snack or a breakfast of it.

Aponi Donata
June 28th; Early Evening; Overcast 68 F/20 C

Aponi is about 8 weeks: 5 Human years

Aponi Aquila

Her stomach gurgled and the girl tried to imitate the noise, making a small growl in her throat before giggling and growling again. Aponi's stomach gurgled once more and this time the girl realized she wanted something, and somebody had to get it for her now. Staring down at her dark tummy the girl tried to make what her body was feeling come out in words, "Hungwy?" deciding this was the right word she raised her muzzle and cried out, "HUNGWY!" As if by saying this food would magically appear before her and she could eat. Recently her mother had been feeding her something different, it tasted funny and it wasn't from her Ma's tummy like everything else had been.

The echo of her voice reached back to her delayed, and the dark pup's eyes widened in surprise, and she called out even louder this time, "Wossat!" This of course was repeated back to her and her eyes narrowed. A growl came from her again and she stamped her front paw in front of her impatiently, "I askded you first!" When her echo reached her again she tried a new tactic, turning her pack on the pass she faced the cave, a sort of "talk to the hand". She found that this worked and the strange voice with no body didn't talk to her anymore and so she stayed facing into the mouth of the communal den, pleased with herself that she had made the voice stop talking.

July 27th; Late Afternoon; Partly Cloudy; 67° F/19° C

After a much needed nap away from girls - Aponi, Nova, and Taima (who had seemingly somehow developed a strange fascination with him over the past two weeks) - Mapplethorpe made his way back to the communal den. His eyes were still heavy with sleep but at this point, he could have navigated his way to the pack's sleeping quarters with his eyes closed if he just minded one particular part of the ascending slope just to be sure he didn't lose his footing. His dark ears drew upward and his head tilted as he approached the wide mouth of the cavern. It was quiet; or, at least, for now and without even thinking much of it, he sat down then reclined forward. Resisting the urge to lay his head back down and go back to sleep, he inhaled then slowly released the breath, hoping the bit of oxygen would at least help make him more alert.

In his head he began to go over what ought to be done. In the middle of Summer, he found that most of the time his energy was put to use at night. In the cover of darkness hunting was more enjoyable, traversing the pack borders was better with cold stones underfoot, telling the girls even more stories from his his own childhood was all the more thrilling... A smile tugged at his maw; he would have to think about scavenging around for a new "toy" for Naira's daughters, give them something to be curious about. They were growing up fast - too fast, really - and he would really have to utilize his time tonight if he was going to be productive for their sake.

Taima was at it again; snappish and testy just like when she had delivered a pretty good bite to the base of Mapplethorpe's right ear. After one round of posturing, the grizzled man decided that it was best to simply leave her be and allow her today to remain close to Datura after not being able to see him for the better part of a week and a half or so. Fur bristled and marred by his characteristic scowl, Naira's equal set out from the communal den but found that he could not stray too far from it. He had missed his girls - the princesses Aponi and Nova - and wanted so much to be greeted by their smiles and wagging tails after having missed them when he had been away.

Slowly reclining onto his stomach he settled himself on the far right side of the cavern opening, his right shoulder propped up against the stone wall. His eyes fluttered shut and his head and neck began to droop downward. His nose was a few inches from touching his forearm when he quickly woke up and raised his head again, leveling his skull and turning his ears forward in attempt to seem and make himself more alert than he really was. Eventually his head tilted to the right and, like his shoulder, nestled up against the cool stone. His breathing slowed into an even rhythm that suggested he had been pulled back into the grips of sleep; with the sun hiding behind a veil of clouds, he could not even distinguish that the sun had already started its ascent over Relic Lore.

September 13th; Sunset; Cloudless skies; 66° F/19° C

While the day had held nothing but a series of disrupted naps, Mapplethorpe had certainly made a priority of making the best of the upcoming evening hours. After stuffing his hollow stomach with half of a rabbit he had found in a cache he had filled that morning, he made his way up to the communal den with his rust-hued ears held up high. At nearly fifteen steps away from the cavern's large opening, he stopped in his tracks, merely listening for any sound that would clue him in as to whether or not Mercy, Nova, and Aponi had already been rounded up for then night. His plume of a tail swayed slightly and he had to smile a he reminded himself that his little girls, as well as @Sagacity's boy, were no longer the small bundles of fur he had laid eyes upon on that clear May afternoon.

They were more than likely away on some sort of venture - like they always were these days - and should they be, Mapplethorpe was more than glad to relish the time between now and the time of their arrival by lavishing @Naira with a few rare moments alone... granted that the yearlings and the cubs were away and the rest of the adults were doing as they had been instructed to do since their arrival to Nomads Pass: hunt, patrol, and most importantly keep their pack lands safe.

His hopes already soaring, he strode into the dimly lit cavern with the most winsome smile on his face as he stole away into the shadows...

Sagacity
Oct 21, Afternoon, light rain — Current Temperature: 42° F/5° C.

As if to herald the oncoming winter, the rabbit's coat had begun to change to a snowy white. Hence, against the still brown and beige backdrop of Autumn, it had stuck out like a sore thumb, Only the backs of its ears were tawny brown, but that certainly wouldn't be enough to camouflage it. Sagacity took the opportunity to use her own pelt's advantage- blending in with the rocks and scree of the mountain's slope- to sneak up on the rabbit and chase it down. A high pitched scream signaled the predator's victory as she took it down.

She carried the limp rabbit back up the mountainside at a trot, with the intention of sharing it with whoever came to the communal den. She couldn't smell much over the rabbit's fur, but wasn't terribly surprised to find no one in the den when she reached it. The grey skies were still lit by the afternoon sun, even behind the veil of clouds. It was chilly, so she supposed most of the pack members would be keeping warm by staying on the move. Knowing that it would likely make someone's day to come to the communal den to find that there was an easy meal left for them, she pushed her own hunger aside and left the rabbit deep within the den, so that other predators wouldn't dare try to steal it. The den smelled heavily of wolves anyway, so even the boldest of foxes or coyotes would likely steer clear of it.

Having deposited the rabbit, she left the den and stood blinking in the sunlight until her eyes adjusted. Having completed her own little mission, a random act of kindness, she sat down to enjoy a bit of a rest in the peace and quiet in the cool drizzle.

October 29th; Late Afternoon; Partly Cloudy; Light rainfall; 45° F/7° C

The rain had seemed to let up at last, but something about the gray clouds overhead told Mapplethorpe that the worst of the cold weather had yet to come. After bringing @Aponi back to the Pass safe and sound, the grizzled man found himself rather glad to be home at last. Nothing else, he hoped, would bring him or Naira farther than their territory borders again. Not until the snow began to melt on the forest floor in the woods below.

Fur bristled along his nape and shoulders, the Nomadic Leader stalked along the stony paths and stood at the entrance to the communal den, staring into its dark depths with a stern gaze, his mouth a mere hint of a stark black line across one side of his snout around to the other. He released a short growl, huffing once as if to wordlessly state that he was pleased to know that the trails around the mouth of the den was both fresh and numerous. @Naira had been by, he was sure. Even Miss Troublemaker, @Aponi, had made her presence known around here at one point or another before running off again.

He gave a short sigh. Ah, Aponi... Always on the go. Mapplethorpe arched a brow before shaking out his fur, proceeding to peer into the den once before dismissing any resting bodies that laid within it, turning his attention back to where his daughters might have gone. From a first impression as well as assumption, he knew neither of them were inside, and it was with a slow staggered gait that he turned around and started down the gravel path, hoping he would soon lay eyes on all three cubs by nightfall.
