Shrapnel
For @Anastasia! <3
As night had rolled over into morning again for the numberless time that lifetime, Shrapnel found himself up early. Well before the so-called heat of the day could creep up, well before the morning fog and dew had rolled and withered away. It made the forestry he found himself in now seem rather slippery, if he could have called it one. The mosses had coated everything it seemed, which while it gave him something cushy and maybe even lush to walk on, it also had a certain feeling about it that he could have done without. It also had a certain musty fragrance to it too, but that he didn't mind too much. It was a bit of a damper on his sense, but he almost felt like he wouldn't need them either. Silly as it were, Shrapnel felt like the forest was completely uninhabitated. Like he had found the one place in all of the Lore that belonged to nothing.

He wasn't counting the other insects or animals, of course.

There were faint traces that wolves had been through, but he didn't bother to test or check how long it was (approximately) since they had been through. Where moss gave away to mud he had seen the prints, as well as some minor game. It was promising, he thought, and it tempted him to hole up for a while. Somewhere away from the once wailing of distant sirens -- which he hadn't heard since his arrival -- and somewhere away from high traffic areas. Somewhere he could always end up going to lick his proverbial wounds and mask his way in and out. A safety net among safety nets.

He laughed to himself then, realizing just how gradiose it all seemed. He had scarcely encountered some wolves on some days and ran into multiple on others. He had learned tiny tidbits about the land around him but never once where to avoid, so to speak. It was as though the packs didn't care too much about interlopers like him, given that there were more of them than there were more settled sorts. Proper sorts, he wanted to believe. Pausing to drink from a murky puddle of sorts, he winced momentarily at the crude taste in his mouth but knew it would do. He knew all of this would do. This place and all about it he knew so far seemed all right, and he intended after a decent exploration of the moss-covered forest he would turn back to less desireable places.

got caught up on me catching up on dexter :)

Days had passed, going on and on. It was tedious at times but it was a smooth transition for one who hadn’t been in a decent pack to compare it with. Never had she seen herself as a leader, nor had anyone else until now. As the Trail had been howled a couple days ago she found herself content to lay just outside the borders. Her time spent caring for Karpos and Adsila were long past now, as they were under the watchful eye of Capella—presumably at play. Anastasia was blessed to be where she was. Shade had welcomed trust into her life, hoping that she would put her heart to great use and care for the children who were without a mother. He had certainly chose a very trustful and caring young woman to do such without hesitation.

Even then, she became worried about Lachesis’ place among the pack. It broke her heart to know that he was at the very bottom but he wouldn’t be there for long, she was sure. He might not have known what he was good and capable of doing, but she knew he would find it eventually. If he wanted a place higher up, he would find it when he was ready. When he did, she would be there to listen and attest to his decision. Hopefully that would lead to him discovering more things about himself, but as Shade had mentioned Lachesis was young and had the most to learn.

During the morning hours she had found herself around the Mosses to the southwest, lying atop a rock that she had come across when meeting Jericho. It was just a flat surfaced rock that luckily avoided the rather moist plants that engrossed most of the territory. There was no Jericho there today, unfortunately, and she had never gotten a chance to ask where it was he had set up camp. For all she knew, he had moved on to one of the packs she had listed to him and if so then she could carry on knowing that she helped someone. Though, by the scent of things here now she didn’t think she was alone anymore. Anastasia picked up her head and looked to the left, then the right but nothing moved, nothing spoke. Just silence.

Oh god, I need to get caught up on that show. I think I'm stuck at the beginning of season five since we don't have Showtime any more. :C
Lifting his head away from the stale water, Shrapnel moved on with little restraint. He carried himself well, unabashed by any that may have been watching him through good cover. He had always been a confident sort, never willing to bow to just anyone. His father had been one, would perhaps always be one, but he had earned that respect from Shrapnel. At times he had wondered if there would ever come at point where he would find himself doing that again, but in the last year there hadn't been a reason to. Maybe to get out of a thorny situation, but hell, he didn't get himself into many of those at all. At least not really, nothing that he didn't think he could at least attempt to muscle himself out of. It was that kind of arrogance that had been instilled in Shrapnel, but he had been raised to handle the pressure and consequences that followed it.

At least here, he had not needed to be that way. It was a nice change of pace in all honesty, leaving him teetering between relaxing or simply just becoming some sort of tyrant in his own right. If the bodies that walked on the soft soil were just as palpitable, then why not? He had been carved out of the earth in a sense, so why not carve them as well? With his head so deeply in thoughts and memories, he didn't even give pause to the fact that something else had touched his nares. Something delicate in the forest of disrepair, something that wasn't as far gone to pot as the rest of the things around him. He didn't see her stark white body against the verdancy as he literally walked into her line of sight. She may as well have been a sharp sunbeam in an overgrown canopy.

Curiously though, he cast his gaze skyward to peer at the canopy, capturing a glimpse of the faded blue of the sky. It was hard to say if another rainy day would be following foot, though there had been a day or two that had been less than pleasant. Even the weather was stable, something he found he quite enjoyed even if it didn't matter that much to him. With no fires to choke the sky out, he had even considered having a look around at that very sky. But in the end, as he worked his way through a twisted, fallen tree trunk, Shrapnel ultimately decided he didn't care that much.

yeah, i watched seasosn 1-4 on sidereel.com (it shows you links to sites that you can watch the vid, some are safe, some aren't and the only site i found that was easy was taken off of all shown links) so then i bought seasons 4-6. got all caught up, couldn't find season 7 in the stores yet and season 8 just started then remembered i can buy on iTunes! so, that's what i've been up to. <3

After Anastasia had left her rather unorthodox pack, she simply had never seen herself coming anywhere near a leadership title. At the very least, she had expected to be put as an omega for how small she was. It didn’t mean she wasn’t capable of doing a lot of things, but she certainly couldn’t ward off a large stranger with just herself. Without the physical side, she just had the intelligence and a metaphorically large heart. Kind and sweet, naïve and gullible—they went hand in hand. Ana believed in the good in others regardless of how they appeared on the outside, and sometimes she even surprised herself with her end conclusions.

If she didn’t have a ‘no judgment’ rule she might have viewed her best friend Lachesis as completely weak and scared upon first meeting. However, all she had seen was a wolf who needed some guidance and they could do each other some good and kept each other’s company. That had resulted in a friendship that she couldn’t explain besides that it was tight, without a splinter. As one can only imagine that she instantly snapped out of her thoughts as she saw a brown-splattered wolf suddenly appear out of the thicket of the Woods.

Excited for the strange new discovery, her tail began to wag amicably behind her and she began a slow walk towards him. Managing to bark at him to say a quick “hey” in her usual sweet, carefree voice, she hadn’t even thought that they might not want to talk to a complete stranger no matter how friendly they were.

Ah, well maybe someday I'll get caught up on it! I don't even know where I'd find the time to watch it these days, honestly. About the only thing I'm excited for to come back on is Person of Interest, but that won't be on until September. ;~; *makes grabby hands*
Carefully as he placed one foot after the other along a rather twisted, rotten piece of tree, a bark resounded out around him. If he hadn't been so focused on what he was doing, Shrapnel would have likely jerked to attention and taken a tumble at someone's laughing expense. But not this time -- he fell for no one's amusement or suspected thereof. Instead he paused, turning his molten gaze sharply until he found from where the sweet, almost petite voice had come from. And there midst the mossy death and decay stood what may as well have been a sunbeam pristine angel, sans wings. He didn't answer her, at least not right away, instead letting his gaze take a gratuitous wander over her delicate frame. She wasn't stuck in a bog, drowning in quicksand, and certainly not in need of a savior or something like it.

And that was enough to make him come down from his rotting step-stool roost. She was coming towards him anyway, which gave him plenty of time to watch where he was going anyhow (again, not falling for amusement). Let her do the legwork, he thought, and when she was within earshot of his turning and twisting form through the grasping mass of annoying moss, he spoke. “Who would let a pretty little thing like you loose here?” Shrapnel could have almost crooned at her, but it would have seemed a little snide. Not that what he said seemed that way already, but it was his way of simply asking why she would venture there in the first place. He'd take just about any answer, seeing how she wasn't the first lone lady he had come across that had gotten an earful of his awry wit.

Sorry for not gettin' this reply up for the past few days. Boyfriend was off since Thursday so extra hover-y boyfriend means little to no posts >_>
Despite him carefully walking down the platforms of mossy rocks and stones, her charming words had set him apart from just any normal stranger she came across. Though, she was beginning to recognize that perhaps she was a different sort of attractive than what she had been before coming here. Until she had met Lachesis, then Reaper, she hadn’t felt all that special but it had been after meeting the two of them that she felt like she got more compliments on her prettiness. Though she felt elated by this, and she would likely blush if she were capable, she was by no means vain and egotistical.

As he eventually settled within earshot of her and through as much of the mossy decay as he could be, she smiled kindly towards him as though he were no stranger at all. “I lead a pack just northeast of here so I have no choice but to come along and scout the neighboring territories,” she chuckled though obviously not very good at responding with any witty banter that might have been appreciated back at him. It was unfortunate that she could not spark it back at him but perhaps it was for the best. After all, she didn’t want to scare him off.

In her utmost effort to not bore him with useless words and worthless conversation, she tried for a different approach. Ask him a question about himself that might not be too intrusive: “do you live here?” Yes, that wasn’t intrusive at all Ana… just be a professional stalker.

It's ok! And sorry about the crap response and delay too. Idk if you saw my post in the ooc or not but yeah. I'm also five days through one of two six day work weeks. Go go 50+ hour weeks, woooooo!
Perhaps it shouldn't have surprised him. He had the fortune (or misfortune) of encountering those from the packs. Almost from the moment he had set foot in the Lore, Shrapnel had begun to learn little things about them all, though nothing substantial. But this one, well, she had certainly been the outgoing one in a positive sense. Yet his eyes briefly scanned the terrain behind her, wondering if she had come amassing an army behind her. He had forgotten about the cluster of beasts at the lake well to his north just yet, though he supposed things could've gone much worse. Satisfied that she was seemingly solo, he capture the flitting of her question at its tail end.

And a part of him almost laughed. Shrapnel had really called nowhere his home for days, having long abandoned his den in the ghastly wailing woods. Not that he called anywhere in the Lore home, either. "It's not very suiting for a home, is it?" he went with instead, this time meeting her eyes curiously. "I stumbled through, that's all." Perhaps same as her, though her reasons made more sense than his own. One would suggest a wolf would pick a much easier route to venture, than come crawling through rotten growth and muck for a good time.  He withheld that he had come through for the solitude, a place to regroup before making any other decisions.  Still there was something familiar about her that nagged him now that they were face to face. Nothing familiar about her per se, but rather her scent. He had come across it before, but memory had left him. It had been stored away somewhere unimportant, the night with the boy and the bizarre sky lights.

Shrapnel broke his gaze with her then, as though to shake the feeling to survey their surroundings again. He hadn't put two and two together yet, that she and the lad had come from the same pack, and wouldn't for a while. "Can't say I know anyone who would willingly live here, but I suppose that's what drew me in." he went on to say, smiling thinly, reminiscent of a madman. He meant it humorously, but there was truth in his statement. He had considered staying there already.

Anastasia had done very little in regards to finding a pack but she had done what she could until crossing paths with Reaper. He had, for lack of a better word, swooped her off her feet and promised her a good place within a pack. Where she wouldn't have to be at the bottom looking up. Anastasia had only ever seen those around her belittling here because of her gender and coming here, she saw something different. Most of the males here were at least charming, sensitive and protective. Of course, there could likely be something brewing within their minds to act in such a way towards a woman such as herself but all she could see was a friendly nature.
Although she now belonged to a pack they were in no way and army but rather a gathering of misfits that were joining together to relinquish that title. They were now a pack, banded together to survive. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#2AA6E0;">Not at all, she gave a light chuckle and nodded. She understood the 'just stumbling through' phrase. She had stumbled through many territories looking for substantial food and shelter for months and now that she had found somewhere permanent she certainly had a hard time looking anywhere else for a place to stay.
<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#2AA6E0;">I don't think I have seen any other wolves here though I guess I can count you as the first, she smiled only deciding then that she didn't really know what to say. Would it be wrong for her to invite him to their pack? Was he even looking for one? <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:12px; color:#2AA6E0;">I don't know if you're interested in it, but I could extend an invitation to my pack if you're looking? Before she knew it had come out of her mouth and it was too late to take it back. Not that she really wanted to but for fear that that might not be something he was looking into. Sometimes loners didn't see need for a pack and she completely understood that, but his options as a loner were very limited.
