He had encountered apples before in his youth, but these cherries were much smaller and shinier, grouped in small clusters with thin stems on the top. Hesitantly Spooks picked a cherry up in his mouth, frowning when his effort at rolling the fruit around in his mouth gave no indication of taste whatsoever. He finally bit down, blinking in surprise when a tart, slightly sweet flavor invaded his taste buds. The flesh of the cherry was soft - but there was something hard in its' core. Frowning, Spooks spat the fruit out and stared at the half-chewed cherry, scrutinizing the seed that lay at the center.

<blockquote>It was a fine summer day. Spooks strolled languidly through the well-beaten paths made by the paws of previous others in the orchard, inhaling the heavy scent of cherries that emitted from the stray fruit fallen and trampled underfoot by creatures mostly of the avian variety. The monochrome yearling had never encountered such minuscule, round fruit before. They didn't look dangerous or poisonous. Curiously he approached the base of one tree heavy with cherries, sniffing the ones fallen to the ground by jostling birds.

Weldering Darksidy
It was a good day to be out and walking, the sun was high and the breeze was cool and refreshing. It was the perfect weather for doing what he did best so far in Relic Lore and that was exploring, he still had not been everywhere that he had liked and until he had been around most of the lands here he was not going to decide where to live. It left him with an uneasy feeling just thinking about setting up a cosy den somewhere when the next day he finds somewhere better to live.
It was no surprise or concern to the young silver and black male when his hawk-like gaze caught sight of a wanderer up ahead between the various cherry trees that dotted the orchard. His attention rarely strayed away from Spooks as he approached cautiously while watching his interest in the cherries on the ground and even smirking as he witnessed the younger male spit out the fruit a little confused by it? <b style="color:#0d5b8c; font-family:geogia; font-size:13px">"First ever cherry?" He called out just about reaching him by now yet his gaze continued to look the other over.

Pondering the strange fruit he had attempted to eat, Spooks failed to notice the approach to another until the stranger's voice sounded, causing him to jump and whirl around in surprise. "Uh, yeah. So these are called cherries?" he replied. Cherries. What a strange word. It was kind of funny now that Spooks thought about it. But his thoughts about the small fruit that lay scattered about the vicinity quickly fled his mind as he studied the newcomer for a second, then excitedly moved forward to circle the stranger, an energetic bounce in his step as he did so.
This wolf was monochrome as he was . . . Could it be possible that this was a sibling? Spooks' green eyes lit up with anticipation. "Who are you? Are you a brother of mine?" Spooks asked, his hopes high at the thought of finally finding a possible relative. He halted his rapid circling and sat up, ears pricked, eyes practically sparkling with anticipation as his tail swooshed back in forth, waiting for the stranger's reply.

Weldering Darksidy
So sorry for taking so long ;-;
As the stranger jumped turning around Weldering could not help but snigger slightly, that was usually him jolting in surprise for no apparent reason when someone else approached. Though over the past year he had done a lot to calm down. He was very calm and cool these days even striding around Relic Lore with an almost swagger like step. His gaze looming over Spooks wondering who he was before confirming what he had said. <b style="color:#0d5b8c; font-family:geogia; font-size:13px">"Yeah, they are not poisonous. Safe to eat but very sweet. Eat too many and you'll be high on sugar." Least that was what happened to Weldering every time he ate too many fruits such as these berries.
'Who are you? Are you a brother of mine?' Te question startled the warrior as he took a single pace backwards, tail flicking to and fro lightly in response to the prompt wagging Spooks was displaying. <b style="color:#0d5b8c; font-family:geogia; font-size:13px">"N-no.. I don't think so." He was not so sure, hesitating as he wondered whether Spooks knew something about his past that he did not. <b style="color:#0d5b8c; font-family:geogia; font-size:13px">"I don't have any brothers, least I don't think so." He could only recall one sister named Xionah, but what was to stop Callista and Morak having more pups in more recent years. <b style="color:#0d5b8c; font-family:geogia; font-size:13px">"What's your name?" He asked, hoping that would solve the issue. <b style="color:#0d5b8c; font-family:geogia; font-size:13px">"I'm Weldering Darksidy."

Unfortunately, Spooks wasn't a very good follower of warnings in general and disregarded Weldering's words of caution. Instead, he scooped up another cherry treat in his mouth as he bounced around. Even without sugar in his system, the monochrome yearling acted high on sugar all the time. His green eyes fixated eagerly on the other male as he waited for a response. But Spooks was only very, very disappointed to hear the answer that came and promptly wilted in despair.
But the other male seemed somewhat unsure about his answer, and Spooks was quick to bring his hopes up again. A hopeful expression replaced his previously depressed one as he bounced closer to Weldering, probably too close for comfort. "Are you sureee about that?" he asked, injecting a note of doubt into his question as he scrutinized the other male with a intense, unblinking gaze. "I'm #28500! But everyone calls me Spooks!" he replied, then frowned when the loner gave his name, once again disappointed. His siblings didn't have last names. This guy did. Spooks was smart enough to put two and two together and concluded that Weldering was indeed not his sibling.
"So you're not a Number then." Spooks exclaimed matter-of-factly, with a petulant pout to express his displeasure.

Weldering Darksidy
Weldering merely stood and watched in amusement as Spooks trusted him, gobbling up a cherry and then bouncing around. It was a very similar reaction to what Weldering would have done if he had not been stumped by the question about brotherhood. Maybe if he was not standing there running through the possibilities in his head he would have joined Spooks, it did look like fun bouncing around in the Orchard after all.
'Are you sureee about that?' Weldering still looked puzzled, truth was he was not entirely sure. He'd left his parents at such an early age, not by his own choice. Who was to say that the following year they did not have another litter? <b style="color:#0d5b8c; font-family:geogia; font-size:13px">"Ummm." He muttered thinking of the right words to say but nothing came to mind until Spooks introduced himself, the lack of a Darksidy title meant that he was not related, least not immediate family anyway. The fact that Spooks was numbered only confirmed it even more and by now Spooks was also beginning to catch on. <b style="color:#0d5b8c; font-family:geogia; font-size:13px">"Spooks huh?" He repeated, his spirits now lifting without the unnecessary confusion. <b style="color:#0d5b8c; font-family:geogia; font-size:13px">"Why were you named as a number?" He asked curiously, shaking his maw lightly as to say he did not have a number.

In response to his questioning words, Weldering looked quite confused, maybe even doubtful about his earlier assertion? Nevertheless, it didn't seem like Weldering was a sibling of his. How disappointing. But maybe he was a cousin or something like that? There would be no way to find out unless they went trawling through their family trees. Even still, Spooks' memories of his biological parents were practically nonexistent, so that wouldn't work anyways.
At his companion's question, Spooks tilted his head to the side in a display of musing consideration. Why was he was number? "I'm not . . actually too sure, but the older wolves said that the humans gave us our numbers. But most of us chose our own names because the numbers are hard to remember." Those elder wolves had been at the facility for years and often became a source of knowledge for the younger generations, even if they were grumpy most of the time. Once in a while they would be willing to share some history and various stories though, if they were in a good mood.
