Her breath rose in the air -- wisps of smoke that seemed to evaporate before touching the branches of the cedars that surrounded her. Pale moonlight danced in through the tree tops -- the forest, despite the darkness of winter, was always lighter when the leaves were gone.

But something in the air had shifted -- the air was cold, but the heat rose from her like an electric current. She knew now what it meant, and so she slunk away for solitude, avoiding the other males of the pack lest she give them the wrong impression. But she did not wish to hide from her beloved, and so with a short and clipped cry in to the air, she beckoned to him -- the excitement of the season thrumming at her chest.

Her paws would gingerly sway along the flat lands of the woods, her restlessness unable to keep her still. Her tail swung contently through the cool air, enticing the scent of her heat and what it meant for the pack -- the leaders would bring forward another litter, and Cut Rock River would further prosper. A year had come and gone, and their current brood would soon be of age to enter the adult ranks as yearlings. Aleksei was reserved and stoic in his own right -- Orren, adventurous and very much a scamp, despite his age. Karina was the most gentle. Each of them had stolen her heart over and over, and she anticipated the ability to produce further children to do just that once more.

Corinna, after all, had done so year after year. It was what the lead female of the pack was destined to do.

Kisla's scent was intoxicating to the agouti Mackenzie; everywhere he went, he felt her presence at his side and it was as if cool flames licked at his skin. Burning and dancing touches that left his heart pounding and his body aching for her closeness. It was the season that Maksim found her most desirable, fuelled by lust and instinct--not that he didn't find her an entrancing, beautiful woman at all other times. Their children of the last summer were strong, physically matured youths. Almost yearlings ... my, how time had flown past the king of the river. Almost a year. And now? It was time to start the circle of new life once more.

Kisla's howl set fire to his body once more. Her call was sweet, like the scent of wild flowers to a busy worker bee, and his skin tingled at the sound of it. Maksim was quick to turn and seek his love, creamy paws traversing his territory with ease. He knew the riverside like the back of his paw, something to be expected of the wolf who had laid claim to it as his.

It didn't take long for him to find Kisla. Her scent on the wind was like a beacon, one he simply could not and would not ignore. Stars above, she was irresistible. How lucky he was to have found her, to have been given the chance to court her. He wanted nothing more than to stand by her side, ever ready to defend her from the threats of the future. He approached slowly, a crooning growl in his throat as he brushed up alongside her, affectionately nipping at her cheek. "Kisla." Her name floated from his tongue on a breath, caught by the cedar canopy above them.

He found her – she held no doubt he would come to her instantly when she called him. Her name fell past his lips – tantalizing all on its own and she cast him a coy smirk, her creamy muzzle canting to the side as her eyes swept over him. He was formidable in appearance – the stark silver and cinnamon only drawing forward the allure of his bright green eyes. There were times she wondered how fortune had fallen in favor such as this – she had found herself a handsome and loving mate who would have his breath stolen from him before ever leaving any of his children willingly.. unlike her own father, who had barely been around for any of his litters.

Catch me, she demanded, amusement laced within her tones as her eyes finally finished grazing over him to rest upon his handsome face. Without waiting for a response, the honeyed she-wolf leapt away, her paws digging to the ground and releasing a wave of snow upward, only to rain down upon the spot she had once stood seconds before.

Her lissome form moved quickly, weaving the trees with the innate knowledge of her home and everything that lay before her. The river swept through, winding through the forest and leading her further downstream as the wind swept past her fur, invigorating in its own right. A smile wound its way to her slender muzzle, liberated in the stolen moment of play with the man she had chosen to spend the rest of her life with.

Gods above, she was beautiful. Every inch of her was perfect. Her honey-tinted fur, laced with gold and cream, Her request--no, her demand--caused a smile to worm its way onto his features. As she broke away from him, he felt a pull. He would have chased her, even if she had not asked him to. "Gladly," he laughed smoothly, watching her lithe figure as she put slight distance between them. It wasn't long before the river king was kicking up his own spray of powdery white snow, bounding after her with an almost adolescent enthusiasm to his strides.

There was something so different about the chase when it wasn't prey he was after. No, chasing Kisla was so much more exhilarating, for all the right reasons. There was excitement and want, sure, but there was also love. It intermingled with everything else he felt, making the whole thing almost seem unreal. Ethereal, perhaps? It was as if this forest, their home, was somewhere different. Some dreamscape where they danced together, one leading the other.

This little ritual of play gave Maksim the chance to unwind, to truly be with her and only her. No one else. She was his and he was hers. Shared, adored. No compromises, no one else nestled into the heart of the other. It was times like this that he remembered that. So wrapped up in her scent, her very being, that nothing else mattered. Wordlessly, silently, his body called out to her as he chased his lover. Kisla. Kisla. She was all that mattered.

Their paws thrummed across the ground -- she could hear him behind her, never missing a beat to her own pace. They wove through the forest intricately, as if no thought needed to be in place, for they knew the heart of each other so well that they would move to the same beat, no matter what. United for a little over a year now, and never once did she feel their love begin to fade or stray.

Sparks of the sun would filter through -- it played upon her fur and warmed the tawny of her pelt to a spun gold.  A tilt of her muzzle back would show Maksim quick behind her, his own proud form a breathtaking sight to see as snow would spray up his sides -- within moments he would be upon her. Kisla would have it no other way, and as the wind lured her forward, she found her legs slowing in temptation to give in to him.. the burning need to be at his side was only heightened by the time of year.

She came upon a small clearing then.. the only sound of the forest was the calm chirp of a bird every so foten, and slowing to a stop, Kisla pressed her side against a large tree trunk, winding her way around it to come back to face him, mischief glinting in her eyes. I see you're truly feeling better, she teased, her creamy forelimbs bowing somewhat playfully in the snow as she kept a sharp eye on him.

"And everyday,
I'm learning about you,
The things that no one else sees.
And the end comes too soon,
Like dreaming of angels."
— Angels - The xx

Each step brought him closer to her, but then she would take her own stride and the space would be returned. And then Maksim's queen slowed, and so did he, his verdant eyes drifting for a moment to the surroundings before snapping back to Kisla. The trees parted, grew thinner as the couple emerged in a small clearing. A small pocket of Spring in the still wintery forest. Sunlight beamed down from the skies, as if this spot had been cleared suddenly for their arrival. He took a few steps forward as his mate circled around the tree before them, her voice playful. She lowered herself into a bow. His tail swayed behind him, a content wag.

"That I am," he responded smoothly. "Nothing could possibly keep me from standing by your side." He offered a toothy, wolfish grin. It almost looked childish on his rugged features. He took another few steps forward, craning his neck towards her as he rumbled a loving growl. "You look beautiful as always." Maksim's voice was sweet and soft--or, at least as much as his rough tones could be--as he continued to creep closer and closer. Around them, birds sang in the trees. A warning alert to one another, in reality, but it was more like music for the leading couple. A sonnet of the Cedarwood.

Her scent wafted towards him on the wind and his sensitive nose quivered. Without thinking he took a playful bounce forward, dropping into his own bow before Kisla. He gave another rumble, an invitation, a request, seeking permission all in one.

It was a stolen moment together -- less rare, these days, as the children were almost a year old now and fully able to explore and fend for themselves. Kisla would still worry for them -- she always would, as their mother -- but she trusted them more now. With this, she would allow herself time from them, and rather than spend her days trailing after them to ensure their safety, she once more found herself at the side of her steadfast mate.. a place she did not desire to stray from.

Fate had sealed her to him the day he had found her in the snow storm. Perhaps even earlier, on the day he had tripped upon her in a forest of red ferns -- the first time she had laid gaze to him. Her heart had suffered in those times.. but with him, she had mended, and as the dark agouti king before her bowed in turn, she felt a smile graze upon her creamy lips.

I'm ready, she murmured, leisurely lifting herself up before stretching her muzzle out to touch her nose to his cheek -- an invitation. They would have their family grow, and Cut Rock River would thrive even further -- the Cavern wolves did not know the force they messed with, and the honeyed female would be sure to let them know. But for now, with the birds singing loftily in the trees, she allowed all other things to drift from her mind, instead, allowing her tail to give one quick sweep through the air and announce her scent to him. I love you, she whispered then, feeling the vulnerability of the moment tug at her very heart. They were not words she offered often.. and yet she could not bottle them up within this very moment.

One more from both of us and then we can archive?
Maksla for best couple always! ♥

Maksim would not lie, he cherished these moments with the honeyed female--his Kisla. He inhaled her scent, fragrant and laced with seduction. Since he was a boy, he had dreamed of claiming his own territory, taking a mate and siring children ... but the cards he had been dealt in Relic Lore had been more than he could have ever imagined. The gentle gurgling of the river played day and night, the cedars towered over the wolves and offered them protection from harsh weather beneath their creaking, evergreen canopy. Prey flourished in this woodland, sporting a wide variety of choice.

And then there was his mate, Kisla Tainn ... no; Kisla Baranski. She was brave and beautiful, sharp like the edge of a knife. She put family before all else. Loyalty was of utmost importance. She had been hurt, perhaps even broken, yet Maksim had never set out to be the man to "fix" her. He had only wanted to support her as she made her own decisions and found her light. The fact it had brought her here, to remain at his side for (hopefully) the rest of their years, was a blessing. He was hers and she was his. Together, they were molding their own legacy--the Baranski clan would flourish.

He leaned forward at her words, as if it were a force he could feel with his body. Kisla's nose grazed his cheek and he returned the gesture, a loving kiss in the form of a gentle nuzzle, a brief lick to her cheek.  Once again, he inhaled her scent as she voiced her love for him. His gaze was soft as he watched her for a moment, a smile pulling at his charcoal lips. "I love you too," he breathed. She was the strength behind his power, the driving force that kept him marching on. He drew closer, brushing up against her side. The sensation sent electricity dancing through his veins. His head tilted and lowered, resting upon her shoulders in a loving embrace.

I love them so much. ;-;

She had never spoken of her fears that he would grow bored of her – that her antics would soon become too much for him, or that he would find himself a mate more beautiful. These concerns stemmed only from her past and her own inability to maintain confidence.. not by any of her beloved’s doing, for he was nothing but loving and loyal. But they stood to this day – and had she known a rather pretty ivory creature by the name of Anastasia had swooped in to her home and the history that lie there.. these concerns very much might have been brought to the forefront of her mind.

The day was theirs, though. Her eyes swept over his captivating form – the way the sunlight filtered in to dance upon the silver and cinnamon of his pelt. She ached for him in ways she had never felt for any other, and so as his words brushed past her with as much gentle affection as a caress, she shifted herself, moving herself toward him. She could wait no longer for him.

Her muzzle would bury itself to the thick fur of his neck – inhaling sharply as she took in his familiar scent. Cedar – moss.. woods. These smells solidified their home, and crooning softly, she tipped her muzzle up to nibble at his chin affectionately. Words need not be spoken for now – and with a stolen glance, she assured him she was ready.

The Baranski line would flourish once more this year, and the thought of another litter sent a flutter of thrill through her chest.
