Lachesis "XIX" Stark
@Koda -- Lachesis is at the south end of the Lake, closer to BTP territory :)

The more time he spent alone the more the alabaster healer realized he was slipping into old habits. It seemed that Maksim and Karpos were the only two he could depend on anymore—the rest had abandoned him, leaving the once ‘upbeat’ creature bitter and annoyed. All the females that he had once taken great interest in had left him—why, he did know and he no longer cared. Obviously he had not meant that much to them if they were able to leave him so easily.

Just as he had done after Anastasia’s first disappearance, XIX buried himself in his work. He was constantly out collecting herbs, along with searching for new ones, while attempting to keep Karina engaged in their lessons. It seemed as though she was far more engaged in whatever she had arranged with Kjors, which only fueled his frustration. The healer would always remain dedicated to the river wolves and their king, but he kept a tight grip on his loner tendencies. Lachesis would always be at Maksim’s side when he was needed, and would do anything to protect the green-eyed leader and his kin, but he still preferred to spend most of his down time alone. He no longer had any desire to grow close to others—especially a female—but would remain forever loyal to his packmates (as long as they did not abandon him or the pack).

The lake was one of his favourite haunts—it was abundant with fresh herbs and its tranquility soothed the troubled healer’s thoughts. The sound of the water lapping softly at the shore allowed him to forget all the bitter memories that plagued him. XIX had spent many sleepless nights hovering at the water’s edge when his large, empty den became too much for him. He missed both Bastet and Anastasia terribly, but he doubted either would return to him. They had left for a reason and Lachesis was positive he was that reason.

With the water’s edge in the distance, the ghost dug his nose around where the sand met the forest, searching for something to capture his attention. He was aware of the pack nearby, but was not sure on where Maksim stood with them. This whole area was new to XIX—both the territories and the wolves. He was not sure who were allies and who were foe.

@Lachesis Sorry for the wait! Congrats on becoming leader again!

As his daughters grew and matured, the agouti king had much more time on his hands and he took the liberty in using it to scout the remainder of what the falls had to offer. He had never wandered further then the border of the pack for obvious reasons, it would be foolish to leave his pack unattended with their small numbers, but he trusted those who remained long enough to leave for a few hours at a time, confident that Iopah or Zia would keep their border tight with his absence. It was half expected that eventually his girls would grow interested in leaving the pack, what lie beyond their home was interesting and he remembered being their age and wanting to explore, therefore he took it upon himself to ensure that the land surrounding them would be as safe for them as he'd promised. He couldn't afford losing them to predators or the wolves of Secret Woods--he hadn't forgotten about the pack that lay on the Western edge of Relic Lore, he was expecting them make the trip soon and find them to be weak and needy and he would be ready for them. He couldn't afford for them to see that they had lost some of their members since its founding.

He walked with a stance that hardly resembled a leader; his shoulders were relaxed, ears were forward to seek out any nearby sounds, and his head was level as golden eyes landed on the rippling water that greeted him. The Turtleback Lake was peaceful, and he had begun to frequent the area for a sport of tranquility, it was perhaps the only place he could come to release his stress, unwind without fear of interruption and think of what was to become of his pack once winter was upon them. They were small and he feared that winter would force them to grow smaller, he could only hope that with the fall of snow would bring desperate and hard working wolves to fill his ranks and he would welcome them, as long as they could prove their worth. The sound of approaching feet broke his concentration and his ears perked to attention, eyes sought for the perpetrator but his nose was the first to detect Lachesis who had wandered to the southern end of the land, a little less then a mile away from him. He stood to walk toward the white healer and when he had the male in his full sight he inhaled his scent deeply, the foreign stench of Heartwood River had caught him off guard but Iopah had warned him of this scent; they had been the very wolves to have caused the commotion some months back. "Are you seeking peace as well?" he questioned Lachesis in hopes of stopping him in his tracks, he would not attack the male, for he hardly felt threatened by him, but he was always cautious and waited for the male to address him before continuing on.

Lachesis "XIX" Stark
@Koda <3

Infection had returned once more; it was relentless and deliberate when it came to the Baranski. While Lachesis was keen on pleasing his leader, and would do anything to ensure the safety of the River wolves, he often felt uncomfortable taking on the role as leader (even if it was only temporary). The thin ghost had always been in the background—he preferred it that way—and wasn’t fond of being thrust into the spotlight. Unlike Maksim, or even Karpos, Lachesis had no desire to maintain a leadership position within the River pack, but he would do it if it was necessary and for the good of the pack. He simply acted as though he was Maksim—he admired the older male and would remain loyal to him until his last breath; there was no need for him to act any different when assuming his position.

The agouti male bore too much stress for one wolf. He was constantly fretting over his family (especially the new litter) and his pack, and did not allow enough time for him to rest. It irritated the healer only because he desperately wanted Maksim to rest—but he was not having any of that. It was only when the infection became too much that the green-eyed male stepped down in order to focus on his health. XIX did not want to lose his alpha, or his friend—Maksim was one of the few wolves from his past that remained; he could not lose another.

A deep frown was cut across his maw as he meandered along the shore of the lake, his pear-coloured gaze focused on the ground below him. He wasn’t really sure what he was looking for; a distraction, probably. His mind was constantly racing, with both his worries and the tasks that needed to be done. With the departure of his most treasured companions, the threat of the dragon, and now the temporary absence of their leader… things had once been so good, and now XIX wasn’t sure they were ever going to return to that state.

The scent, accompanied by the sound of paw steps, sobered him from his thoughts; he was no longer alone. His frown only cut deeper against his lips as he ceased his own movement, his head raised in authority as he observed the stranger with a curious expression. The scent that accompanied his pelt was not one that he recognized—whatever pack he belonged to XIX had not encountered another from it before… but where were they from? The stranger spoke suddenly, asking a seemingly harmless question to break the silence that had engulfed them. “Always,” he responded coolly, his chartreuse gaze unwavering as he observed the older, brawny male. “Great spot for water plants as well,” he added with a soft shrug and a lazy, half-smile perched across his maw in place of the previous scowl. Lachesis had never been good at making small talk.

@Lachesis !

Like his younger counterpart, the pale leader found himself in a constant state of worry and concern. He worried not only over those he promised to lead, but also the very health of the pack he had sought to start with his wife--Broken Timber Pines was their new beginning. He hated not knowing what would happen to them as the months ticked by, and with the looming thoughts of winter on his mind, he knew that it would only be a moment of time before finding food would be their primary concern. He sought for less troublesome thoughts at this lake, something he had not had in months, therefore when Lachesis bit at attempt to speak of something totally unrelated to pack duties he felt a wave of relief wash over him. He would relish this fleeting moment for as long as he could.

"You are a master of plants I assume?" he was familiar with the different jobs a wolf could acquire once accepted into a pack, and that of a herbalist or healer was quite a valuable task to uphold. He had never met a healer or herbalist he could not trust. "I've never been too fond of it myself, a plant is a plant in my eyes, but those who have that kind of knowledge are highly regarded wolves." it had been that way in nearly every pack he had been apart of, and it would be that way in Broken Timber Pines as well. "so...where are you from?" and he fell quiet finally, waiting the alabaster males response.

Lachesis "XIX" Stark

It was apparent that the tawny male before him held some sort of power position within his pack just by his stance and the air around him. He stood poised and calm, but behind his honey-green orbs there was something calculating; thoughts constantly being processed; analyzed. It was an undeniable trait of both those leading a pack and those second-in-command, ie. Lachesis. He was always being visited by thoughts that were both troubling and unwelcomed, and couldn’t help but worrying about everything. While some days it bore too much weight on his shoulders, he was feverishly loyal to his green-eyed leader and would defend his position as Maksim’s right-handpaw at all costs. XIX had been there since the beginning of both Cut Rock and Hearthwood, as well as the flood of Darkwater Rapids. He had proved his loyalty time and time again, and would do whatever was necessary to ensure the safety of both his alpha and his pack/family.

A soft nod as given in response to the stranger’s comment about his position. While healer’s weren’t as abundant as scouts or hunters or warriors, they were respected just as highly (if not, sometimes, more). It was a position that was not always desired among younger wolves, especially those yearning for glory and power. XIX preferred staying behind the scenes, collecting plants and applying them when necessary. He enjoyed helping others and being needed; he had saved lives, and for him that was all the glory he was looking for.

“It’s not always this glamorous, I swear,” he responded jokingly, his green eyes falling away from the stranger’s as he glanced down the water edge, searching for a familiar specimen. Wading through water and digging through dirt; the job of a healer wasn’t just using the plants – it was mostly finding them, which was why Nineteen was constantly searching for more inventory. “It’s not a sought-after position, but the use of plants has always been a part of my life.” His words were accompanied by a soft roll of his shoulders as he fell silent once more, his soft gaze studying the larger male before him. It did not take long for the stranger to question where he was from; it was a typical conversation topic, and often couldn’t be avoided. Especially when there was tension between packs. “Originally, up North with the snow. Currently, Hearthwood River – and you?”

My posts are not that good, sorry @Lachesis, I made you wait too x.X

He could only imagine whether this male had venture so far from his pack in search of valuable plants, ones that probably could not grow near his own packland. He wondered momentarily, with winter fast approaching, whether the wolf was in a race against time to fill his own personal stash of plants before winter buried them beneath layers of thick, hard ice covered snow; in his eyes, they were always racing against something one way or another. He grunted softly when he finally lowered to his haunches in a sit, getting comfortable by means of assuring the male that he was not here to throw around his weight, nor his title, today he was simply Koda; Koda of Broken Timber Pines. "You must cover a lot of ground in search of plants then, especially with Winter right around the corner." he spoke finally, smiling when the male promised him that the job as a healer was not as glamorous as it seemed. Nothing ever was, even the job as leader seemed glamorous to those looking in but it required much more patience, understanding, and heart then anything Koda had ever had to do before, luckily the job nearly came easy just as easy to him as hunting. Some days were often better then others, today including.

When Lachesis mentioned his pack the male's ears perked, eyes searching him slowly half expecting him to show some sign that he was aware of who he was and what his pack had done to one of their members. The event had happened nearly a month ago and from what he could recall there were no casualties, he only wondered what the male thought of him as finally both high ranking members were standing face to face. Clearing his throat, he thought he'd be the first to hint at the fact that he was familiar with what Hearthwood Forest was, "Your pack name sounds familiar, has it been around long? I am apart of Broken Timber Pines, one of the founders actually. We currently reside near Secret Falls." their location was never much of a secret, especially since he was certain that Secret Woodlands had no alliance with Hearthwood as long as he was alpha.

no worries! <3 @Koda I never mind the waits :*

“I try to,” he commented at first, his lips mirroring the smile that the tawny male had given. “Most of the time I am quite fond of winter, and the snow, but not when it makes it difficult for me to find my plants. It’s always the good ones that winter finds first…” he mumbled, half to himself and half to the older male. He wasn’t quite sure if he was still talking to Koda, or if he was talking out loud to himself anymore.

Often, even when inventory was high, Lachesis found himself searching for herbs. Sometimes he didn’t even take them—he just wanted to know where they were for future use. As a healer, it was not proper etiquette for him to be selfish and take everything he stumbled upon. Even with borders separating them, healers were supposed to help each other because there wasn’t that many of them. Some packs were even without a healer—good relations with just the healer(s) of other packs was crucial. There were also certain plants that only grew in specific areas; therefore, this meant (occasionally) crossing borders to collect them. However, if tensions were high between packs, there were alternatives that could be used in place of certain plants/herbs. XIX always made sure to mentally document the herbs he encountered and where they were found—and their alternatives. He liked to think of he was prepared for everything… well, almost everything.

The stranger responded with his pack’s name rolling off his tongue, his thick voice breaking the silence that had settled around them. It was not one he was familiar with, but he was aware of their presence. XIX couldn’t quite remember where they stood with the Broken Timber wolves, and he mentally cursed at himself for being so negligent. “A few months—we moved to Kingsfall from our previous home in Cedarwood before the summer.” While the male before him didn’t seem like a threat, one could never be too certain. It seemed as though he was being just as guarded as the healer was, which was expected—Lachesis was never sure who to trust these days, and which side everyone was on. “Our scout, Naia, has been making some rounds… I’m not sure if she’s made it out your way yet,” he added with a slight tilt of his head and a half-smile perched clumsily across his maw. “My nose is usually buried in plants when she comes back with her reports, so I often miss out…” he joked with a quick wag of his tail to decrease the formality of the conversation. Lachesis didn’t like talking business, but it was necessary as the second and leader, even if it was only temporary.
