Askan Selwyn
for @Everly but WRF woofs welcome to pop in and eat some popcorn

Askan wasn't sure why, but he couldn't help but feel as though something was amiss. That something, he didn't know what, was wrong. He stood upon the peak of the lookout, staring down at the snow covered tundra below. Not that there was alot to see, not with all of this damn fog. But that was aisde the point, nothing seemed wrong. It was quiet, just how he liked it. And yet it was like an itch he couldn't reach, almost intangible, but he felt it as though someone was breathing down his back. Askan shivered and shook out his coat, chasing away that ugly thought. He cast his gaze back to the field behind him and was met with even more grey. Snow he could handle, but all this low lying fog was just annoying. How the hell was he supposed to see? For all he knew some Whitestone bastard could be creeping up and- he doubted that.

By no means was there peace between their packs, but from what he had been told in the meeting they had agreed to just stay out of each other's way. It wasn't exactly the sort of conclusion Askan had been hoping for- an apology amongst other things would have been nice- but who had he been kidding? It wasn't like Craw would be that civil. Smug bastard.

All this thinking was doing little to improve Askan's disposition. What would his father said? Don't be so emotional? Don't get so tangled up in things, take a step back and just breathe. The know it all, it was so easy for him wasn't it? Excellency came so natural to him and even now all these miles away Askan was seething with jealousy, and disappointment. He loathed the fact that he even looked like him-no, he was a damn spitting image of his father. The differences between their appearance were so minimal that at first glance one might just go ahead and assume that they were identical, that they were one of the same. But they weren't. There was a whole valleys worth of difference between them and as hard as Askan had tried to close to gap he just couldn't do it.

It's not that he hated his family, because he didn't. Or did he? It was confusing, he just didn't know. And really, why was he thinking about this? He'd told himself that he wouldn't drag up the past, it was dead and gone and no one could tell him otherwise. No one.

Askan hung his head low, his eyes downcast.

"Well shit." Askan grumbled, his voice seemingly loud in the silence of the tundra.

Everly Selwyn
This whole thing had been exhausting and her little legs were not looking forward to the return journey one bit, but in all other ways, Everly Selwyn was rejoicing.

She hadn't initially put much faith in the information, because she could hardly believe that he would do something as irresponsible as join some random pack out in this foreign place, but at least it had a few upsides: one, it forced him to stay put so that she didn't have to chase him down any more, and two, it meant he'd finally found some friends!!! The notion made her want to laugh all over again, but she was tired from running and had to settle for the tongue-lolling, ear-to-ear grin as she loped steadily towards that southern tree line.

And even if she hadn't believed it all anyway, her nose finally picked up the scent of the wolf whose musk had long faded from everywhere except the pack den, where she could still press her face against the wall he always slept by and catch the faintest trace of him, like the ghost of a smell.

But here, here out in this massive tundra which stretched so far it made her dizzy, she'd actually crossed his trail. A few days old, like he'd just casually walked past, and such a simple sign had made her giddy with excitement. Not long after that she'd found a second marker, and then a third, and now her head was full of him, all doubt about whether or not this was his new pack utterly banished. Stupid idiot, she thought blissfully, thank you so much for finding someone to put up with you!

Sheltered by her safe family home and normally surrounded by wolves who loved her, it did not occur to her that she had no idea who was nearby, who was listening, what unknown dangers might be lurking in the shadows. As far as she was concerned, all the bears were still hibernating, and they were the only danger she really ever worried about. Deciding that the pack markings were getting strong enough and taking a deep, deep breath, Everly threw caution to the wind as though it were handfuls of confetti.

"ASKAAAAAAAN!" she cried, at the top of her well-used lungs, snout lifted to the sky as she first barked the name and then slipped into a half-howl, her voice box so wound up that it could hardly decide the best way to shout for him. The little honeyed wolf laughed and jumped into the air, spinning about to check behind her in case he might miraculously appear out in the lowlands somewhere, and she danced backwards for a few moments before twisting back to prance closer to this territory, her nose full of him and he had to be here somewhere oh he was gonna get such an earful -

"KAAANNAAAAAA!"

Askan Selwyn
this turned out a lot longer than I intended, damn you siki for giving me such wonderful muse

At first Askan thought that he was dreaming, that somehow in the grey of the fog he'd managed to fall asleep without even noticing. In his dreams it wasn't uncommon to hear the echoed voices of his sisters, beckoning and or teasing him, as they so often did. But this felt different... For one, Askan was fairly certain that he wasn't asleep, he could feel the snow chilling the pads of his paws and when he inhaled the air was cold and biting, so much so that his lungs tingled a little. His dreams were usually fuzzy, as though they were tearing at the seems, and often lacked clarity and reason. His dreams never featured the mundane, he rarely felt anything physical, it was almost always in his head. They always focused on feelings, things he was so desperate to ignore.

But that voice-he refused to put a name to it- sounded, no, it felt so real. Like a sinking feeling in his gut, a foreign object caught in his throat. It couldn't be.... She wouldn't. Father wouldn't let her, with that unwavering voice of his he would have demanded that she stay. And if she had been foolish enough to even try, then Mother would have dragged her home by her tail. He knew it, it was impossible. It had to be.She was not here. Had he spent too long out in the fog? Was he slowly loosing his mind? Was he hearing things? It had happened not so long ago, but he had an excuse that time, he'd been half asleep and he truly had seen a figure in the darkness. Damn Craw, lurking about like a shadow. But that bastard was beside the point, there were more pressing matters for him to address now.

But what was he going to do? The Yukon wolf was at a complete and utter loss, he stood there frozen with wide eyes. He took a steadying breath and somehow managed to persuade himself that he had just been hearing things and that maybe he could do with a quick nap, just to clear his head. But any and all hopes of returning to normality, his comfort zone, were dashed when he heard the dreaded nickname. There was no denying it now, was there? He couldn't just pretend he hadn't heard her screech out to him. As terrifying as this was, it was no nightmare. He was awake and Everly Selwyn was here.

Breaking out into a sprint, Askan near tumbled down the hill, ploughing through the snow as he went. He couldn't believe that she'd come all this way, and why? To come and visit, to see her dearly beloved baby brother?

Well fuck that.

"GO AWAY!" Askan shrieked, his voice several octaves higher than usual. He spared a quick glance over his shoulder, but was terrified by what he saw.

She'd already made it to the top of the lookout hill. In her excitement she hadn't even heeded the borders, she'd pranced right in without a care. Perhaps if Askan had been in a better frame of mind he'd of told her off, he'd of spelled out the situation to her,but right then all he wanted to do was get the hell outta dodge. So that's what he did. Spurred on by sheer determination and the unrelenting 'no no no no' in his head, Askan pushed on, galloping through the deep snow that coated the field.

He risked another look over his shoulder, she was gaining on him."GO HOME YOU DON'T BELONG HEEERE!"

With an undignified yelp, Askan tripped and skidded to a stop, leaving a drag mark in his wake. He scrambled to his feet and shook himself off, but it was too late. She was right there, too close, there was no way he could escape now. He might as well play it cool, just to cling onto what little dignity he had left.

Askan cleared his throat and held his head high, as he looked down at her with a derisive glint in his eyes. "Sister." He said, as way of greeting.

Everly Selwyn
After walking for days and days and enduring sore paws and hunger pangs and uncomfortable nights sleep, the first concrete first-hand evidence that Everly got of her brother, aside from his scent, were the words... 'go away'.

Rude.

The shout had only made it all the easier to locate him, and his dark rear end as he fled from her was unmistakable. Too elated and excited to waste much time feeling hurt by his ungracious reaction, Everly just ploughed on, her focus narrowing as though he were the red flag to her charging bull, everything else in the world irrelevant. She didn't bother to shout any more because it would just take energy away from running, and her legs were already shorter than his; she wouldn't fall for that dastardly trick.

It worked, too, and when he looked back and saw her catching up to him, tongue hanging free from a mad toothy grin and flapping against her cheek, he made the mistake of shouting - and not only did it waste breath, but then he tripped and stumbled over himself and the sister cackled with irreverent glee, slowing down not one bit as he drew himself back onto all fours, turned to face her, and she might have recognised the look on his face and the stern tone in his voice...

... if she hadn't been too busy barrelling bodily right into him where he stood, alight with yaps and barks and squeals of victory.

Askan Selwyn

Askan had expected her to be reasonable and skid to a stop, but of course- in typical Everly fashion- she went above and beyond his expectations. He had only just finished greeting her when she barged right into him, knocking him off balance so that he toppled to the ground, for the second time that day. He didn't even have the time to gather himself before Everly pounced on him, yipping and shrieking with delight. The Rye wolf was so shocked that he simply laid on the ground, staring up at his sister as she proudly announced her victory.

His chest heaved and he blinked rapidly, as though he thought she were a mirage, and that she would fade away if he just focused. Seconds passed- it felt like an eternity- and his breathing slowed but she was still there, nuzzling and nipping away at him, trying to get a reaction out of him. So she was here then. He'd figured that out earlier, just before he'd turned tail and ran. But he supposed this was a last ditch effort, he had been clinging onto the hope that she wasn't real, that she wasn't here. Sure, hallucinations were not a good sign, but anything would be better than having to deal with her.

At first he'd fled in blind panic, under the assumption that she might leave if he made it clear she wasn't wanted. But that had been a foolish idea. Everly was never the sort to pick up on such signals, she was headstrong, so if she wanted to see her brother she would goddamn see him. And no one could stop her. Not even Askan's callous words.

Askan sighed in resignation and kicked her away. "That's enough. Get off me."

Clambering to his feet, his shook himself off again and shot his sister a dark look. This was all her fault. He hoped she was happy... Scratch that, she did look happy. She looked as though she was elated, on top of the world, like nothing could stop her now. Askan had always admired her spirit, but had always found her taxing to be around. He could only put up with so much glee and as of right now, she was overflowing with it. Despite that, there was something on his mind, a list of questions he couldn't help but ask.

"Why are you here? Are Mum and Dad alright? Our sisters?"

She's just gonna be standing from the distance like wut. I don't care if she isn't noticed or is.

The cloud of fog was starting to drive her crazy. She could barely see a few feet in front of her, and she felt suffocated. Fog always disoriented her, and since she was still trying to remember the landmarks of the Fields, it was all just a mass of white, yellow, and gray. With both need, and want she made course for the borders. Maybe, it would be better in the rest of the lowlands.

To the west of her, such a loud call rang out. For a moment she stood there, confused. Someone yelling for Askan? That seemed a strange way to request his company. Why, she didn't know him well, she didn't believe such manners would please him. Momentarily, she paused debating what the protocols were. She really didn't know, and hoped he was around.

Sure enough his voice rose in the distance, and it was by those high pitched words Go  Away! that sent her running in his direction. Something had to be terribly wrong for such octaves. Why the snow did limit her speed, she still hoped to soon see through this cloud what the hell was going on. If it was someone that needed to be chased off.

Nothing else was clear, except a yelp, and it was then she saw a dark form drop down. A honey colored letting off happy barks a the sight.

Silver hair bristled along her back, but she did not emit a sound. She was going to surprise this wolf, and barrel her over. Before Remington made it far the dark wolf booted the strange girl away, coming to a stand. They seemed to be just talking? Looking at them, Askan could surely take her. More uncertain of her place, Remi drew to a stop, observing.

Adelayde Artemieva
Sorry about this guys... xD
1/3 of Guardian dem (attend border threads)

Living up to her reputation as the resident night owl, the tawny woman took advantage of a few moments to get some peaceful shut eye. Settled against a large truck at the very edges of the forest that lined their southwestern borders, her large body sprawled out against the flatten bed she had dug out in the snow. It felt like she had just shut her mismatched eyes when suddenly they flashed opened again at the sounds of commotion north of her. Snorting herself awake, she groggily looked around, her lips slapping together as she yawned.

With the sound of Askan's voice booming across the tundra, she was up and barreling towards where she thought she heard his voice. The fog made visibility basically obsolete, but she could smell him and another up ahead. Trudging through a snowdrift, she could hear Askan yelling once more. Was he yelling at another loner? Or was he actually in trouble? Quicking her pace as much as she could through the deep snow, she could almost make out two forms ahead of her.

Attempting to adapt a mean face like Askan had told her at one of their training sessions, though it was more of a I'mtryingtopoop face. But as Adelayde came within ear shot, she heard Askan say to the stranger, ”...our sisters?” Jaw dropping to the ground, her excitement elated. “WHATTTT? This is your SISTER?” She blurted out, her bicolored eyes wide with enthusiasm. Skipping over to them joyfully, she looked to Askan's supposed sister with a wide smile, “Askan never told me about any sisters! This is wonderful news! Oh my goodness, I can't believe this is happening right now. Did you come all this way to find him? Is there anyone else coming? Are your other sisters coming??” She rambled on taking a deep breath as she glanced at Askan, ”I can't believe you never told me you had sisters!” Looking back at his sister, her smile widened even though it seemed impossible. “I'm Adelayde, but you can call me Ade. I'm a friend of Askan's, surprisingly.” She winked at the end as she chuckled to herself.

Phoenix Avalon
Percy just here to huff, she's gone after this one.
from the darkness into the light, now is your time
Phoenix Avalon

The ear piercing shrieks were the first to grab her attention, enough to rouse the girl from her lounging position and out towards the tundra where she had been mindful of going since Adelayde came back beat up (although she probably deserved it if anyone had thought to ask Percy). The unfamiliar high pitched yelp only caused the girl to pick up her feet. who on earth had made that sound? It was only followed up by more yapping and yelling, and suddenly she was worried.

She wasn't the only one to take note thought. The grey girl... what was her name? Remus or something? stood back and so Percy came along side, craning her neck to get a better look at what was going on. Oh. it was @Askan, with another girl... and then that one joined them with all her yattering and sunshine. The girl huffed her annoyance while forgetting that there was another adult alongside. "Whatever." She muttered under her breath, the words loaded with teenage angst and dissapointment. If Adelayde was here, she planned on being far, far away.

With little more than a glance for her short-time companion she turned on her heel and made her way back towards the trees. Maybe she should just go see what she could see in the palisade and leave the gushing yattering to those far better suited to it. After all, it didn't seem like Askan minded it at all.

Everly Selwyn
As little as her brother's manner normally affected her, there was a small sense of disappointment at his utter lack of excitement. Not that anyone watching would have been able to guess; she was all wagging tail and rapid kisses and eager yips. Any despondency she felt at his unenthusiastic response was washed away by her own bucketfuls of enthusiasm. She'd just have to be happy for both of them, like normal, then. It was the final nail in the coffin of 'he hadn't changed one tiny bit'.

Letting herself be pushed away, Everly grinned at him as he fixed her with that sullen look, and gosh, somehow she'd actually missed that grumpy mug. His questions were all to-the-point and devoid of emotion and she pouted, whining softly at his broken sense of sentimentality. "What, seriously? It's been half a year and I come all this way and all you c-"

But she barely had time for anything more, and it was only then that Everly realised that they had an audience, and her ears flicked back for just a heartbeat before pushing forward again as a large tawny woman came striding in, all aghast and surprise at the event. Everly narrowed her eyes and smirked at Askan as if to say 'see, somebody knows how to react properly', and while all she really wanted was time alone to properly berate her wayward sibling... she supposed that could wait. Just for a bit. She wasn't running after him any more, so what was the harm in another half day?

The questions rolled out of the woman with the mismatched eyes with rolling excitement, one which re-ignited Everly's own adrenaline high and translated straight back into the joyful movement of her tail. The two darker-pelted wolves were spotted in the near distance but paid no attention, as Everly dismissed them as irrelevant. She'd only just begun to really process the fact that this excited woman smelled so much like her brother when the last bombshell dropped.

"WHAAT," she cried, twirling back to Askan, bouncing towards him again, "you mean you actually have a FRIEND?! Oh Kana, I'm so proud!" Planting another slobbery kiss to his nose, she laughed airily and looked back at the woman who had - Addy, or something? It didn't matter. "Yeah, I'm his sis, come all the way from Yukon! He really NEVER told you about me? Kana, how could you?!"
