They had travelled through the tundra together before deciding to (temporarily) split up. To cover more ground, or whatever. Seven just saw it as an opportunity to explore without his brother and sister breathing down his neck or dragging him off somewhere else. The mountains in the distance did not look anything like the magnificent peaks their mother had described to them, which only added to the boy’s conclusion that they had gone the wrong way. He dared not tell Nicander, even though he was sure his brother already knew they had gotten their directions mixed up.

Oh well.

It was just a part of the adventure. And, maybe, if they were lucky, there would be wolves here that would know his father or uncle. Or both!

The land held a familiar air to it, as though he had been here before, but he knew he was a stranger to this place. His nose wrinkled as he maneuvered over the rolling hills, his spider-like legs moving slowly as he drank in his new surroundings. It wasn’t completely awful. Hella different than the snow-covered tundra he was used to, but not horrible. Almost liveable. If you were some bizarro feral wolf. His brows pinched in amusement but he remained silent as he continued to observe, searching for any signs of life among all the dying green…

Her gold colored eyes traced along the formidable stone. When she'd come upon it, it seemed to be out of place. Sorta like Whitestone. Something that just shouldn't be here. The more she studied it, she could see how well in actually blended with the rough landscape. Further a testimony to the harsher north. More than likely with the help of the yellowing plants that clung to the rocky faces.  How far did they stretch? What did you call such a thing?

The more she looked, the longer she remained, enthralled. She began to find it a little strange there was no pack claiming the area. It would be a sight to wake up to every morning. It would be easy to give it a kick ass name. Then again...she saw little paths made for travel. Could they even be crossed? She looked from one end to the other, trying to see where it might be possible. From here she only become more doubtful. Was this no wolf land? Come to think of it, she hadn't come across any scents of prey except for the small things. They always seemed to mange to live any where. With a lengthy sigh, she plodded onward. She needed a closer look, and there was no harm in getting a better understanding.

thanks for hopping in! <3

He caught wind of the obsidian stranger before he spotted her, in the distance. If it was not for her feminine scent the yearling would have mistaken her for his brother, for her golden gaze glinted in the autumn sun. Seven was not sure if she had noticed him, too, as no words were called out over the stretch of green between them. There was still some considerable distance between them, which meant he had time to escape before she noticed and was enticed to say something. Casual conversation. Small talk. It didn’t sit well with the boy.

However, she could be of use. Maybe she had spotted his siblings. Or maybe she had been acquainted with his uncle or a Selwyn (or two).

She could be useful. But it meant he had to talk to her.

With a frustrated sigh the boy swallowed his reluctance and called out to her, his voice strained from lack of use: “H-Hello!” That was a good start. Dragging his paws forward he took several (hesitant) steps toward her, making sure he maintained some distance between them. He did not trust these feral wolves. Not one bit. He wagged his tail behind him to show that he meant her no harm—that he was a good boy and super friendly. No threat here!

It was only the inate feeling someone was staring at her did she finally look about, eyes landing on the marbled figure of another. How long had he been there? Damn. She should have been alerted to him long before. She'd have to be better instead of day dreaming. She didn't need trouble to find her.

As a silent moment passed for a second she thought maybe he was just going to disappear. Instead he drew closer, and her ears gave a faint twitch. It seemed like an invisible force was pushing him onward instead of his own paws. Hmm, her interest perked she let him come to her. Though she wondered if she could trust that wagging tail.

"Hello. You hoping to pass through?" She murmured in a warm tone, an eased smile on her lips. "I know some of the land here." She didn't think it hurt to try to be helpful or at least gain some information. She didn't think he was a pack wolf, but he looked pretty good to otherwise be.

He thought about retreating. Pretending as though he had not called out to the yellow-eyed girl and turning on his heels. It would have been easier than engaging in conversation, but it was too late. His oversized paws remained glued to the spot, his tail swaying with uncertainty behind him as he waited for the ebony stranger to respond.

Fortunately, it did not take long.

“Kinda?” He responded with a soft tilt of his head, a frown cutting across his dark features as he studied the loner.   “I’m lookin’ for someone. Two someones, actually.” Usually the yearling was not this bold, but the desperation to find his siblings had subdued the nerves that usually gnawed hungrily at his insides.   “One of 'em kinda looks like you, actually,” he added with a small, awkward laugh. Way to go, dude. He blinked, a small smile tugging at his dark lips. The girl seemed willing to help him—she had mentioned she was familiar with the land. But that did not mean he still wasn’t wary. She was still one of the feral, wild wolves and he did not trust her.

She kept her eyes on him, her own sense of self preservation high. Lunatics were not often obvious. They wouldn't all stand out like a diseased tree in a forest of green. Did he feel the same way? His own displeasure was obvious. If speaking was up there with pulling teeth. She seemed to bring out the best in people.

Usually she may have a quick reply for such a comment, but she was a bit at a loss how to take it. At least he seemed to want to delete the moment. Maybe, he was really on the young side in the mental department or just sucked at talking. With that thought she decided not to take offense nor think further into it.

"Sorry to disappoint." She managed to keep her expression soft, and smile sweet. Though recalled how Everly had thought she was someone else to, and she hoped it wasn't who this guy was looking for. "Haven't seen anyone like myself. Got a description for the other one? What they mean to you?" At least she could inform him where they probably weren't whoever they were so he'd have a less ways to walk.

He half-smiled at her response, his ears twitching in amusement. Black phased wolves and bright yellow eyes were not uncommon in this area—he and his siblings had learnt that as they travelled south. But none of them had possessed the infamous Selwyn name. Which just meant they had not gone south enough. “S’okay,” he added with a soft shrug, his maw canted to the side. “The other one is tawny lookin’, all browns and greys. Same yellow eyes.” Selwyn yellow. And his eyes, they were all wrong. “My brother ’n sister. We’re lookin’ for some family. Never met ‘em, though.” Another shrug. He didn’t know why he was being so open with the yellow-eyed loner. Perhaps it was because the chance of them crossing paths a second time was low, since they were both not attached to packs in the area. Or, maybe, it was because he was hopeful. Hopeful that she would know something, or someone, that they were looking for. The boy was naive, he knew that. But not naive enough to let his guard down completely. The female, while friendly, was still a feral wolf. He did not know if she was to be trusted just yet…

Well at least she'd gotten some kind of smile out of him. He seemed reversed in manners it would seem. He went on to describe the other. It was fitting to a couple wolves she'd met. Though if it was a sister. "They your age?" If so, then she was sure she hadn't met them. Phoenix was the youngest wolf she'd encountered and there was no doubt who she belonged to. But, he shared another piece of information. They had family here. Huh. Well, that was a good reason to be leaving home she guessed. He was about the age to want to.

She waited for the part where he might say their names, but it didn't quite get to that. It was like he wanted to tell her but didn't. Not that it bothered her. He was wise not to go yapping about his whole life details to a stranger. "Oh? So do you know their names ?" Because she really couldn't be of any use if he didn't.

Again the yearling nodded, his muddy gaze adverted away from the yellow-eyed loner. Same age, he added as confirmation, the tip of his tail twitching. He realized that both of his siblings fit a common appearance, as the wolf standing before him was proof of that. It didn’t discourage him, however. He would meet up with his siblings again—he had to. Being on his own, in such a strange land, it didn’t set well with the anxious wolf. Even if his siblings did often grow tired of his antics.

He wasn’t sure if he could trust the female but he didn’t have a choice. His naivety was getting the better of him. Maybe she actually wants to help. He hoped. His lips twitched as he hesitated, his desaturated gaze finally meeting the golden pools of the she-wolf. Lach-something. He’s got a weird name. Supposed to live here. He shrugged. And we’re looking for wolves with the Selwyn name. Another shrug. Surely some of the infamous Selwyn’s found their way to these lands… just like his medicine-loving uncle.
