Lana Tainn

Lana made her way out of the den much earlier than usual, determined to accomplish something. Hurried steps brought her closer to the borders, and farther away from the characteristic sleeping noises of her kin. Crisp morning air slid across her coat as she moved, amplified by the frigid dew beneath her paws. The cold couldn't stop her today. Nothing could.

It was very unlike her to run off. Normally she'd be the one stopping her brothers from doing the same thing she was currently attempting, but something had to be done. Her mind was made up. She was going to find her mom. It wasn't unlike Naira to leave, or forget things. It wasn't weird or strange or heartbreaking. It was life. It was all she knew. What was weird, and strange, was the fact that her mum had been gone for so long.

Lana had already decided that something must have happened. It had been too long. Naira must have gotten lost, or stuck, or hurt, and she couldn't just leave her mom out there alone. Lana would have to bring her back somehow, so that she and @Treyah could take care of her. They had to. It was the only option.

Of course, the girl had no idea how she was supposed to find her mom or where to even begin, but surely doing something was better than doing nothing.

'Cause I've been on the run so long they can't find me
Eurus

The girl had taken up a more nocturnal routine of late. It suited her better to sleep during the day, soaking up the meagre heat the sun offered during the daylight hours and she would allow physical exertion to warm her through the cold dark hours of the night. Besides, the seasonal fog was her friend, and she found no shortage of pleasure in terrifying the local inhabitants when they should have been in bed.

Eurus was on the lookout for somewhere to bed down for the day when a wayward whirly wind bought the scent of a young wolf towards her, laced with familar tones of ash, spruce, dogwood and pine, all overlaying the unmistakable acrid tinge of charcoal. It was a slice of forest she had painstakingly familiarised herself with over the prior weeks. Perhaps she didn't want to be seen just yet. Veering into the undergrowth she waited to see if the barer of the burned perfume would venture her way. The last thing she needed was one of the adults clued into her presence here.

Lana had broken past the invisible barrier with ease, her absence having gone unnoticed by her pack, at least as far as she knew. Honestly, the whole breaking the rules thing was a bit of a letdown. There was no fanfare, no rush of adrenaline. She felt exactly the same on this side of the borders as she had on the other. The feeling, or lackthereof, could have been chalked up to the fact that she had crossed the borders before, but that was to keep her brothers on the right side of the line. Maybe she just thought that now that it was her idea, it would be... different? Huh.

The real problem now, was figuring out where to go. Had Naira even gone this way? The scent trails were long past faded noe, so.. "Just keep goin' straight I guess." Had she been a little bit older, she might have thought this through a bit more.. thoroughly, but she wasn't older, and it was the best she had.

Lana pushed forward as quickly as she could without depleting her energy too early. It might be a long trip (though she hoped for a short one) so she had to be ready for anything.

Once she found herself a good enough distance from Charred Ash Draw, Lana set to work calling for Naira. Surely if the woman heard her name she'd respond! "Naira?" Nothing. "Muuuuum?!"

Maybe... this was an opportunity that she didn't want to miss... She shadowed the child, a smirk that didn't reach her eyes painted on her face as the girl called for Naira. Muuuuuuum?! Oh this was too sweet, too sudden and unexpected. She knew the tawny yearling was her daughter but she had assumed all the pups belonged to the other pair. She didn't need to observe her surroundings to know there would be no opportunity here. Abundans cautela non nocet. In fact, they were probably even still too close to the Draw for her to risk being seen at all. She fought down a frustrated tch and moved to place herself where she would be in plain sight of the pup but she didn't say anything, not yet.

Lana kept moving, kept calling for her mum, but no answer came. Of course, she hadn't been so naive as to think Naira was just going to answer this close to their borders. Had that been the case Treyah would have already dragged her back home. No, she must have gone farther, and gotten stuck. Maybe she was being held hostage? Was that a thing that even happened? Were there wolves out there who hated them that much?

Whatever questions were swimming through her head stopped as soon as her body did, because there was another blocking her path. The wolf was older than Lana, with a coat of spun honey. Her first response was not necessarily fear, but more along the lines if shock at the woman's sudden appearance. "O..oh." Well that was rude. "Oh! Hullo! Maybe you can help me?" maybe.. just maybe... "I'm looking for my mum. She probably got herself lost. She's got a tawny coat, gold eyes, and she's big! You wouldn't be able to miss her.. ya'know?" Lana looked towards the woman with hopeful eyes.

Kerberos Rigel

He had heard Lana's cries for her mother but it still took him a handful of precious moments to get to her. Kerberos lingered in the distance like a protective shadow, noticing that nothing seemed too out of place. Usually, he would have been content to simply stay in the area and let her explore under his distant gaze but she spoke to something. Someone.

Kerberos could practically feel his heart hammer against his chest. It was mixed with worry and perhaps hope. A loner could mean another member of the pack but this close to one of the children could mean danger. His tail went up as he drew close to the Tainn child. The golden female was an interesting sight by all means. His heart soothed softly as he realized something; if the female had wanted to hurt the child she certainly could have done it by now with their closeness.

He did his best to relax his posture some, yellow eyes looking down to Lana before looking back at the golden girl. "I assume she's trying to corral you into our search efforts too?" A dark brow raised and a smirk tugged at his lips.

Lost oh the poor dear, they still hadn't found her corpse? Her head turned, considering. Should she just tell the girl and be done with it? Her mouth was about to open when another wolf entered the scene. A smile made it's way to her face, head dropping in apparent deference for his status as a pack wolf, or some bullshit that would excuse her from making eye contact. His tone was friendly enough so she allowed her tail to wave at her back. "I actually ran into a wolf that matched that description a few months ago, up on the mountain... although she seemed rather disoriented at the time. I thought the name she was calling was familiar, that's why I came so close. She was muttering something about barrows and angry gods..." Her smile had slipped away, lips pursed as though she were wracking her brain for anything else to offer them.

Lana was so intent on the woman in front of her, that she missed Kerberos' approach all together. It wasn't until his familiar voice passed through the air behind her that she even realized he was there. Oh no. Was she in trouble? Was she supposed to be this far from home? Was he gunna tell Treyah? Her sister had enough to worry about without having to wonder if her younger siblings were going to run off too.

All those questions were quickly forgotten as the golden lady spoke. Amber eyes widened, filled with hope, and a little bit of fear as the word 'disoriented' fell from her lips. Mum still wasn't herself? How long had it been now? That didn't matter though! This meant that mum was alive, and not hurt, or stuck! She was just lost! Suka, and Cannon were going to be so happy when she told them. Instinctively, her gaze flew to the Kerberos, as if to say, 'That's mum right?'
