The barren bush rustled as the small wolf wormed her way out from below the temporary shelter. Shaking the accumulated snow from her pelt, Sylva took a deep breath. Wishing so much that her encounter with @Hawthorne had been just a bad dream, a nightmare that plagued her. The protesting rumble from her stomach reminded her though, the interaction had been as real as her standing here breathing.

The wolf’s ears perked, the lake’s edge which she had been hugging and following toward the northeast was still there. The soft splashing of waves against the muddy shoreline had become somewhat of a comfort for the ebony colored healer. The whispers she thought she could hear became a gentle reminder of just how far she had come on her own.

Sylva was still here, alive and doing alright physically, even though she didn’t have the slightly clue on how to handle her emotional state, the numbness that she had felt after Hawthorne’s farewell had left with the sun rising and now, she was left in a  maelstrom of guilt, shame, hurt and the nagging feeling, she knew she could have done better. She could have made better choices, but she hadn’t.

“We can’t just sit around all day.” she said to herself, Sylva hadn’t been using that peculiar way of referring to herself in quite awhile..but it just felt right at the moment. When things had been so much simpler, follow the river, listen to the wisdom whispered by the trees, if she could just return to that time, then things could be splendid, but she knew it wouldn’t. So, with a deep sigh, Sylva pulled herself up and made the short trek to the water’s edge. There, she bent her head over the cold water, lapping gently and closing her eyes as she watched her distorted reflection.
