AW:March Madness thread

Unlike some Remington knew very well what was plaguing her. She'd been horrified as her mother explained. The fact that one day she could be expected to be a mother. She scoffed at the notion. She could never picture herself with a tiny brood to care for. Surely nothing good could come form this the burn so tormenting and cruel. It was another reason she wished she wasn't a female. Had almost been hopeful in her new surrounding it may not happen.

No, the familiar twitch had started beneath her skin, and she'd become withdrawn. Trying to keep away from lady and man alike. She was easily irritable, ready for a fight just to release some of this awful energy. She'd try and spare her pack-mates that. She doubted anyone would willing spar with her. So she'd hope that this might only last a little while with the lead female home.

In the mean time for the first time in awhile she drifted from the fields to the south. Where she let herself get deeper and deeper into the forest, searching for a measly creature to use her teeth on. She had to do something.

Askan was right. Hanging around a pack, with all these females this time of year, was fuckin’ weird. It wasn’t to say he didn’t know this happened when the warmth started to return to the land – he saw first hand how crazy his own dam had gotten right before she’d gotten pregnant with his sisters. He’d lived alone, generally, but still ran into other strangers; the spring made some females awfully forward, made others more foul-tempered than a nest full of hornets. In general, it was wisest to give them a wide berth, especially given that he had no actual interest in making pups (no matter what his hormones were trying to tell him).

So perhaps it was unfortunate that he and Remington seemed to have a similar idea on this day, leaving the sanctuary of Wild Rye Fields for a bit of loneliness, a bit of peace. He had the intention of digging out a marmot or a hare, filling the cache will his shoulders still finished patching up – but a much stronger scent soon permeated the air, making it almost impossible to track anything but the sickly sweet smell beckoning him closer. Curiosity was a cruel bitch, and before he knew it, Reyes found himself only a few lengths away from his packmate. His brows furrowed.

“The hell you doin’ out here, chica? Ain’t huntin’ in that shape.”

:D

A rodent's path caught her attention, she pursued, gold eyes tracing ahead for its hideout. There was a sound coming from behind her, and she paused in step, hackles slightly raising. The wolf turned just enough to see it it was Reyes and she forced her hair into place. Why question tugged at her mind she didn't feel his presence was need for worry. A stranger, but not entirely. Since Askan seemed to trust him she had no reason not to.

She studied his expression in a single moment. Why was he looking at her like? Stating his opinion. It wasn't wrong to be away from pack lands. Was he worried she'd ventured for something more or would be taken advantage of? She was hardly a young one to worry to be tricked into something.

Silver shoulders shrugged. "I gotta do something. You have a better suggestion?" It's only been a few days and she already felt crazy. She doubted getting in a scrap with Adelayde would win her any points. She could see he still carried his marks from his own challenge. Eyes briefly brushed along his shoulders. "I hate to make the rest of you uncomfortable." It was maddening enough alone. The short distance between them was enough to make her yearn. She was trying hard not to focus on it or his frame. Freaking body, betraying her.

Last year it'd been easy she'd been surrounded by brothers. They'd went on a hunting trip to escape.

A better suggestion?

He could thinking of a handful of things, but the wolf had a hard time convincing himself that they were actually good ideas. His ears flipped forward and backwards again, the churning gears practically visible as he studied the younger wolf. He couldn’t gauge her exact age, but she wasn’t a coming yearling. This wasn’t the first time. At least she wasn’t freaking out. (Memories of his sisters flashed in his mind’s eye and he gave a soft sigh, wondering where they were. How they were. If anyone was looking out for them, and--)

Reyes gave his coat a hard shake, mouth twisting into a knot. “You ain’t doin’ shit, chica. Don’t think anyone else is lookin’ t’ hacer bebes.” Maybe the lead pair. But that was their right, by position. The other males though? Askan, Icicle? (God help anyone that wanted the latter.) She was fine. His mouth ticked again. “We can do somethin’.” Maybe not hunt. Not with the way she looked all harried, not with the way she stank up a twenty length radius with those damn hormones. “Wrestle? Go for a run. Burn some damn energy.” In a more productive manner, at least.

Remington had to hide her amusement as her question seemed to render him into thoughtful silence. Good. Males had to deal with it too, but not in the same way. He didn't have to feel like his body was inhabited by a strange form. Trying to coerce every fiber into dangerous action with a rather permanent consequence.

A laugh fell from her lips. "Me either." She did not want to spend her time fussing over puppies. She had little experience with them to begin with, and wasn't exactly looking forward to a litter the pack would likely have. Sure she could help feed them, and try to keep them safe. Teaching?

Her silver brows raised, a faint twitch of her tail, interested, but uncertain. Since he seemed to be offering better suggestions (considering her poor chance of a succesful hunt) she would take what she could get. "All right, I could use some practice." Again her tail beat, but not too vigorously. She was mindful, and broke the distance between them. Almost in his reach she stretched into a playful bow, paws shifting in the snow trying to keep her attack a surprise. Then she would dart forward, with an intention to touch his neck. How fast was he?

“Good.”

It wasn’t exactly his place to tell off a fellow subordinate for the desire to breed, but he wasn’t about to sit by and let it happen, either. Sure, Reyes wouldn’t exactly consider himself any sort of loyal subordinate, but shit, the world really didn’t need anymore wolves like him now, did it?

But, thankfully, it seemed Remi was of the same opinion as he was. He hummed, bobbing his head and about to lay out the terms of their match when something stuck him as rather odd. “Hablas español?” he asked the younger wolf as he bowed down, stretching his forelimbs in a play bow – and then he sprang forward. They were friendly – or at the very least, they were packmates on opposite sides of the sex division – but a real opponent wouldn’t stand around and wait for Remington to get herself ready. She wasn’t small, but Reyes was willing to bet he had a weight advantage. The male dropped his shoulder as he lunged; hitting the female subordinate head on would probably throw them both, whereas a well-placed shoulder check would avoid doing any real damage to the male’s head and neck. His ears flipped back, out of harm’s way, and he shoved, eager to start burning all of this useless energy.
