As discussed Reginald has taken Mabel out of territory for a hunting lesson!

Mabel and her siblings were certainly getting bigger, by the day it seemed. Now at four months old their eyes had changed, their adult pelt colouring was coming in and they were about half their adult size albeit still leggy and awkward looking. Paws still too large for their body (something their father had never grown out of and the pup prayed wouldn’t happen to her) they looked especially disproportioned. Still, this was normal development for a puppy and Mabel had learned how to overcome it, mostly.

With the change of rules she had come to a quick realization, how easy this situation would be to manipulate. But, she would need the perfect target. Mom and Dad were out obviously, they were much too suspicious of her antics, @Nalda also had a short tolerance for her tricks, @Lila spent a lot of time with @Ice and it would be hard to fool two of them, @Zev just smelled disgusting and she avoided the weirdo as much as possible. That left only one, the newcomer. Regi was also a little weird, but Mabel liked playing games with him because she was small and blended into the mist and he didn’t see her very well so she usually won.

Today things were going swimmingly well, Mabel had convinced the arctic wolf to take her out on a hunting lesson. Something that Mom and Dad kept saying was important for all the pups to do because soon they would have to “participate”. Really, it was like her parents wanted her to succeed at this trick, they were just making it so easy for her to pull it off. So, now she trotted alongside Reginald as they followed the winding stream through the spectral woods hoping they would come across some prey or something.

Reginald didn't mind taking the girl out for a little lesson. She really wasn't all that bad for a child, then again he had never really hung around other children before. He figured there was no harm in helping her learn something either. Surely her parents wouldn't mind either. His eye sight may not have been the best but Reginald took pride in his tracking abilities.

"You gots to focus on trails." He explained as his tail swished behind him. "Paw prints and such." His nose lowered down to nudge around the shore of the creek. The moving water would have likely helped weaken some scents but maybe he could spot a few tracks. If not they would simply have to keep moving. He wondered how much the girl had already learned. Had she had her first hunt yet, succesful or not? Reginald's ear flicked softly in an attempt to hear the girl - for he'd always have far better luck hearing (or smelling) someone than seeing them.

He lifted his head back up slowly, silver eyes taking in the blobs around him. If he was prey where would he hide? The Bend wolf's face twisted into a look of deep thought. Mentioning this place was still new to him he felt as though he had a lower hand than he normally would have.

@Reginald sorry this took so long!

The pup had been deep in her own scheming so when Reginald broke the silence she nearly jumped out of her own pelt. Thankfully he could hardly see so Mabel’s embarrassment was minimal, it would have been much worse if one of her siblings had seen that! It would be much too obvious if she tried to sneak away now, while he was on high alert looking for something to hunt. Impatiently Mabel chewed on the inside of her cheek, not bothering to try and keep an interested expression on her face.

That was why she liked hanging out with the white grown up, she never had to work to have the right look. If she had looked this bored and impatient Ayla would have gotten her feelings hurt and she would have been reprimanded by mom or dad if she wasn’t paying attention. Not Reginald though, he just looked around for more tracks or whatever it was that they were actually supposed to be looking for.

They had to get farther away. If they didn’t it wouldn’t take long for her mom to come find her and she needed as much time as possible for her escape. ”Oh! I think I see some um…. Weird looking footprints. Tracks or whatever.” Mabel didn’t see anything, but Reginald probably didn’t know that and before he could question it the cream coloured pup took off at a trot. The “tracks” were leading even deep into the woods of course, and the opposite direction of home.
