Takes place just outside Driftwood Surge Borders

Had she known that her mother wouldn't be able to follow them to their new home she may not have been as accepting of Lachesis suggestion. At night the sight of her mother's form standing in the snow under the redwoods haunted her causing her to lose sleep. She liked their new home, a lot actually but she felt guilty. Should she like it when her mother was all alone. She knew that it had not been her mother's choice for them to be separated. Her mother had made her reasons for not allowing Oksana along but it left the pup conflicted. Should she be angry with Inna for making her go? Was Driftwood surge even the right place for her anymore?

Oksana thought of Reid as she traveled along a path that wasn't far from the border of the new pack. He would kiss her and they had promised forever. She couldn't leave him behind if she chose to strike out on her own. It hadn't been that long since they had left Hearthwood so Oksana decided to give it it's fair chance and see how she felt later. Her mother would want her to be happy so that was what she was going to try to do. For now she traveled carefully along the path that was a little Rocky and completely different than the one they had traversed before. She was in a mission to find out what there was to catch to eat, was it the same as in Hearthwood or were their different prey items. It was a question that Oksana had the hope of getting the answer by the end of the day.

At least that was until she found a fallen tree to investigate. She sniffed around the part of the tree that laid upon the ground before climbing on top of it. Her tail waved over her back as she tried to stand as tall as she could to see what she could see.

Exploring without @Hawthorne was boring but he did not like pestering her all the time. Sachiel worried that if they spent too much time together she wouldn’t want to keep hanging out with him… and he didn’t want that to happen. She had been one of the main reasons why he had decided to settle in the Shallows, despite his urge to explore more of the Lore. But he was happy with his Edgy crew. It was the home he’d always wanted and never had among the dreadful orange trees in the south.

All the snow made his eyes hurt. He didn’t like it. The colours were harder to see. Everything was muted, distorted, and made him feel disconnected. Empty. His ears twitched as he continued forward, his shoulders hunched and tail swaying slowly behind him. It did not help that Sachiel still felt a little strange after learning about his friend’s passing. But she had been sick. Really sick. It was why her colours were painted with crimson. Why they were always off, even with her sunny disposition and the soft blues that cocooned her.

He kicked at the snow absently in an attempt to dismiss his troubled thoughts. He didn’t like being so black-blue. It made his head ache and his stomach feel all knotted up.

The scent of pack reached him as he went further nose, causing his nose to twitch and his steps to halt. His mismatched eyes blinked in confusion as he glanced around and surveyed the trees that surrounded him. There wasn’t supposed to be a pack here. He took a few steps back, distancing himself from the invisible borders. If this was a new pack they would certainly have extra patrols out, making sure that their borders were not crossed. He swallowed, his ears folding against the back of his crown. Perhaps it was time for him to return to the shadows… or seek out his greyscale friend…

Only a few days had passed since the pack had moved and claimed the territory that was now their home. Oksana was aware that her life was going to change a little more than everyone else's, her mother would no longer be there. She had to get used to that but there were things she would miss very much. The biggest one was their talks at the end of each day, she wondered if Reid would want to continue that with her. It was something she had shared with her mother but Inna had sent her away, told her to go with the pack. On some level she was angry about it but the loss she felt over leaving her mother behind was greater.

She had spent the first few days in the surge trying to accept that her mother wouldn't be with her. She knew she was getting older with each day, she would be a year soon and it was time she took responsibility for herself. It didn't matter what Inna had said Oksana was a big girl now and it was time to act like it. She still needed Reid though.

She also knew that it was high time she started listening to what her mother had said where the pack was concerned. Duties, the problem was Okdana wasn't completely sure what they all were. She knew how to do most everything a pack wolf should but she wasn't sure how to apply it to life. Perhaps she needed to have a talk with Lachesis or Lilya, maybe they could guide her. Even Reid might be able to help her figure it out since he did it everyday.

From her perch atop that fallen tree Oksana could see quite far, okay maybe not as far as she would have liked but far enough. So far that she saw movement nearby and wondered if it was one of her packmates. Then she saw the fur and knew she did not recognize it. Jumping down off her tree she crept closer and as she did she caught his scent, it was familiar. A little far from home aren't ya? She asked the boy poking her head out from behind a small pine tree that was almost big enough to completely hide her but not entirely.

The agouti stumbled backward, his mismatched eyes sweeping over his forested surroundings. Clumps of snow clung to the bases of the trees making everything look the same, but fortunately for the Leigh his photographic memory made it impossible for him to get lost. He needed to get away from the borders before a patrol found him and questioned him about his close proximity. Sachiel didn’t want to cause any trouble, especially with new neighbours. However, he couldn’t stop the curiosity bubbling within his chest. Was Askan aware of this new pack? They weren’t super close to the Shallows, but they were definitely their closest neighbours.

His nose twitched at the arrival of a new scent, causing his eyes to widen as his pace quickened. But it was too late—he’d already been spotted. Dammit! Perhaps… if he was quick enough… he could sneak away…

A little far from home aren’t ya?

His head snapped in the direction of the voice but immediately his eyes averted from the ebony girl. He focused on the pine tree that obstructed her from his line of sight, for she had the same dreadful orange eyes that his closest friend possessed. He couldn’t even look Pumpkin Eyes in the eyes, for loud, obnoxious colour still made his head ache even after his departure from the Vale. Guesso, he offered with a dismissive shrug, his paws kicking absently at the snow beneath him. This new? He asked, his nose flicking over to the imaginary borders. Obviously it was, but he wanted to hear it from her mouth to confirm his suspicions.

Well now, this was something the little Crow hadn't encountered before. Someone sniffing around so close to the borders. For once she was grateful for all that training her mother had her do. She knew exactly what to do as she jumped down off her fallen tree though she thought she'd have a little fun. Turns out their unexpected visitor was only a pup about her age. Which that was kind of exciting for Oksana since she didn't know too many pups outside of her own pack. Actually she only knew Cyril and that Hawthorne girl, she wondered how the Whitestone pup was doing now.  She supposed she couldn't call him that any longer though.

The little Crow crept toward the boy and realized his scent was familiar to her, he belonged to Askan's pack and was probably friends with that rude girl. No matter, this boy hadn't done anything yet. Coming up behind the pine tree she spoke about him being away from his home. She smiled at his shrug and one word answers, she found it rather cute the way he kicked at the snow. Coming out from behind the little pine tree that she was well aware was not a good hiding place she sat back on her haunches. We've been here about a week maybe a little longer. We moved from Hearthwood River, she explained.

Knowing the relationship between Askan and Lachesis and even her mother she figured the boy would find out eventually. Does Askan and Reyes know your here? She asked with a slight tilt of her dark head. She wondered if he was just exploring and had stumbled upon them or if he had been sent this way on purpose. I'm Oksana by the way. She also hoped that by giving her name he would do the same but if he was anything like the rest of his pack, or at least those members she had met or learned about she didn't expect much.

He watched her, cautiously, as she slipped out from behind the pine tree. He was careful to avoid her tangerine pools, for he was not in the mood to battle a headache. So the boy opted to watching her nose, for he did not want to miss any physical cues given by his age-mate. She was prompt to answer him, announcing that the pack had not been here long. … about a week, maybe a little longer … Sachiel nodded to show he was listening, his chin tipping to the side as she confessed that they had moved from Hearthwood River, the pack north of the lake. Huh. That made sense. The black-legged yearling had sort of smelt like her when he’d arrived in the shallows. Apparently he was related to the leader of Hearthwood or something.

But what had caused the move? That was what the boy was most interested about.

Had the Edge Lords been notified of their move yet?

Or what that Sachiel’s job?

Does Askan and Reyes know your here?

He scoffed at her question, his eyes rolling in frustration. Do they need to know? He was going to tell them regardless, but he did not often report to his leaders until after he’d finished his patrol. Not unless he planned on going far and was seeking permission. M’name’s Fern. It was the first name that had come to his head and rolled naturally off his tongue, as it was a plant he was particularly fond of. He wasn’t about to introduce himself as Plant Boy; that was Hawthorne’s nickname for him. And, for now, he wanted to keep his real name to himself. Just in case.

Oksana was quick to notice that his eyes never met hers which she thought was odd. She explained with assuming that he knew he was much too close to the Surges borders and didn't want to get himself into any more trouble than he might already be in. That was if she decided to call for her packmates but she was just a pup and he was from Askan's pack so she found it rather pointless to call for Lachesis. She could already see how that would go and frankly didn't feel much like watching it.

It was best if she remained polite and kind toward this boy so she didn't get in trouble later. She had promised she would behave anyway.

When asked if his Alpha's knew he was this far from home his answer suggested that they did not she shrugged at his question, Only of you want them to, she stated. After all how many times had she traveled far from home without telling anyone. She was hardly the pup to judge such actions. Besides she didn't know the rules he lived by and if they were the same as the ones she was supposed to. As long as he knew the dangers and was willing to take the risk that was his business.

It seemed that providing him with her name had prompted him to give her a name as well. It's nice to meet you Fern, she stated with a small wag of her tail. She then looked back to her tree before returning her attention to the boy. I was doing some hunting if you would like to come along we could hunt together. Obviously I can't take you past the borders but maybe if hunting isn't what you would like to do we can do something else you might like to do? She suggested. There wasn't any point in him skulking around possibly getting into trouble with one of her other packmates that didn't know where he belonged or the relationship between his alpha’s and Lachesis.

Only if you want them to. That was fair. Sachiel would likely tell his leaders that he had accidentally stumbled upon the new pack’s borders, for he did not know if they were aware of its presence just yet. Maybe there were more wolves his age beyond the borders, which would mean more playmates from him (and Hawthorne). He could never grow tired of spending time with the greyscale girl but he was certainly open to the idea of making new friends. Or at least acquaintances.

He shrugged in response, eager to change to the subject. But the girl had beat him to it. His brows tightened in surprise as she invited him hunting. Maybe these new neighbours weren’t so bad after all… but, was he in the mood for hunting with a stranger? The corners of his mouth twitched. He wasn’t sure what his plan had been heading north but he was opposed to the idea of joining her in a hunt. Even if he wasn’t sure if he liked her. She dripped in shades of orange and yellow, and he was still trying to figure out if it was bad or good. I s’pose so, he answered lazily, his mismatched eyes still focused on the tip of her nose as he avoided her tangerine pools. He’d probably earn some brownie points if he came back with information and food for the caches.

Oksana felt she was the last one that could judge the boy if he didn't want to say anything to his leaders about his excursions. She was often leaving the territory and didn't always tell when she did. She knew she probably should but without her mother there to tell her what to do and Lach and Lilya often busy with pack stuff it was even easier to slip away then it used to be. She had yet to take any grand adventures and instead stuck closer to home but that didn't mean she wouldn't one day. Maybe she would Oksana didn't really know.

In the meantime there wasn't anything that said she couldn't go hunting with the odd eyed boy she had found. She did wonder for a moment if Lachesis would mind or if he would be perfectly fine with it since this boy was from Askan and Reyes pack. She smiled and wagged her tail when he agreed to go with her. Great! Are you good at hunting? She asked curiously. I found a rabbit trail that seems pretty fresh we can see if it might lead to the den and then there will be more for us. She hoped they both would he able to catch something. We should get started before the trail grows cold. With that she turned and started to where the trail was.
