Caelean Balik
Set after this thread. Caelean is obviously injured on his shoulder/neck and distressed. Tagging @Anastasia and @Lachesis but anyone is welcome. || March 11th, Early Morning, Cloudy

He was shaken to his core. There was an ache all over his body that even his adrenaline could not wipe away. By the time he had made it back to the Surge, he was ready to crumble. The sun tried to peek through the trees as a sign of a new day. He had not died by the hand of his monster but he was certainly traumatized. Orange eyes burned so vividly into his memory. He could smell nothing but his own blood and the earthy mud that seemed to slather over his legs and stomach.

The boy did not call for anyone when he crossed the borders. Instead, he hid behind trees trying to avoid any prying eyes. He wanted to be left alone. He wanted to disappear.

Lachesis "XIX" Stark

He’d been making his rounds when the stench of blood reached him, causing his cerulean eyes to go round as he staggered forward, his nose raised to locate the origin of the scent. What worried him most was the scent that accompanied the blood—one of the newer Driftwood members, Caelean. The soft cub that was incapable of hurting a fly. What had happened? He lunged forward, sprinting through the trees as he followed the sour smell.

Worry lines cut into his pale features as he stopped, his head spinning around frantically as he looked for the boy. Here! He should be here! A low whine escaped him as the frown on his lips grew more prominent. Caelean? He called out, his voice gentle as he attempted to lure the boy from his hiding spot.

Caelean Balik
It was a familiar voice that called out his name. He couldn't stop the tears from springing forward. Caelean did not know if the tears were from relief or if it was the fear finally catching up. The Balik boy could not bring himself to respond but his sobs would easily be enough to draw attention to his location. He leaned against a tree, trying to prop up his exhausted weak frame so that he did not crumble under his own weight. It was so terribly hard to do when every inch of him hurt.

He struggled to cease his sobs and catch his breath. What was he supposed to do? He wanted to seek the comfort of the older man but there was the fear that the closeness would bring on another wave of pain. That he would be struck down again with harsh words and teeth. He was too internally conflicted.

Anastasia Starklen

The last few days she had spent primarily around the Surge, uninterested in wandering around the closer territories for once. So in her patrols the scent of blood immediated triggered her senses but as soon as she smelled Caelean alongside the blood, Anastasia immediately stopped her patrolling and immediately fled to the child. There was red in her eyes as she pounding the ground in order to get to Caelean, uninterested in anything and everything that she passed until she saw him with what looked to be wounds riding along his own shoulders. Cae! she cried out, immediately going just a hair faster than she was prior.

For a brief moment she didn't even see Lachesis also attempting to find Cae but she had recognized his more scared nature easily. Anastasia, in a huff to catch her breath, came to a halt a few feet from her light-colored leader and called, Cae, what's wrong? Anastasia could have easily followed the bloodied scent but she was going to try patience first.

Lachesis "XIX" Stark

Anastasia’s voice came when the sobs did. He turned to meet her cerulean gaze, his ears falling flat against his skull. Something was wrong, very wrong. But Driftwood didn’t have any enemies (at least none that Lachesis was aware of); could it have been something other than a wolf that attacked the poor child? Had it been an accident? It didn’t matter—not now. Lachesis needed to see how serious the injuries were before bombarding the youth with questions. The dove called out once more, her voice soft as she attempted to lure the boy from his hiding spot. Lachesis remained quiet, his mouth tight with worry. He worried that if they approached Caelean he would flee, or attempt to. At least Anastasia was present—her and the pale boy were quite close; he may reveal himself now that she was present. He hoped. The longer his wounds remained untreated the more likely they were to get infected.

Caelean Balik
thread closed to new joiners~ thank you @Lachesis and @Anastasia for hopping in!

It was only when he heard the dove that the exhausted boy pushed forward. He was a mess with his fur disheveled, mud caking his underside and blood matting down the fur on his shoulder and the place under his eyes damp with tears. He had never felt so vulnerable or embarrassed. But the dove wouldn't hurt him, would she? She had been so kind from the start.

He hesitantly crept forward with a heaviness in his chest. When he reached the pale duo, the boy crumpled at Ana's paws. His sobs had quieted down to pitiful gasps for air. "I-it hurts, A-Ana." He didn't know what to do other than weep. His face was buried in the cold earth between his paws where no one could see his face. The Balik's head still hurt from the hard-hit against the stranger's and the coldness of the ground felt so utterly nice.

Why couldn't he be someone else?

The dove was patient, as she always was, and knew that he was more likely to come if she were present and asking. She had no real biological children of her own, but she took care of any child so long as they were a part of her life. One day perhaps she would be able to start her own family but for now, she was going to protect the one she already had. So as the light pair waited for the youth's approach, she cast a worried glance to Lachesis that clearly showed signs that she was rather emotional. Tears threatened but did not pool, she couldn't break... not now.

Though, when Caelean eventually came from his hiding spot did she notice how muddy and bloodied he had become. Mouth dropped open quietly, ears folded against her head as her shoulders begun their descent down to the ground so that she might aim to press her muzzle against the safe fur on his cheek. We're here, she murmured, I'm here. What happened? she asked, instinctively moving her tongue to brush over where she assumed that the wound trailed off but the blood that had stained the fur made it rather hard to see what was underneath.

Lachesis "XIX" Stark

It took everything in him to not lurch forward at the sight of Caelean and immediately tend to the boy’s wounds. He was already in a fragile state; the last thing Lachesis wanted to do was overwhelm the injured boy. Instead he waited, idly, by the dove’s side, a deep frown pulling at the corners of his mouth. What had done this to the boy? A cat, perhaps? An angry bear woken too early from hibernation? Another wolf, perhaps? His tail flicked in frustration as he watched the boy crumple at Anastasia’s paws. A lump formed in the back of his throat. He would have to get something for the pain, infection… something to stop the bleeding… his chartreuse gaze swept around as Anastasia tended to the boy. What happened? His ears twitched in the direction of the youth, eager for a response. The ghost shuffled to the side, his peridots focused on a clump of cobwebs hanging at the base of a towering evergreen. Sorry, siders. This is more important, he thought as he swiped up the webs with a forepaw before hopping over to the dove and the wounded cub. He nudged Anastasia’s shoulder with his nose before lifting his paw so she could take some and apply it to his wound. The boy had a better relationship with the dove; Lachesis did not want to touch him unless he was granted permission.
