close to the mountains, all welcome.

He thought about making a trip up the mountain to see if his grandmother had made it to her former home. If she was still alive, as her health crossed his mind often. He was worried about crossing paths with his uncle again, or his mother. She had yet to find him and Sachiel intended to keep it that way, for he knew their meeting would be similar to the disaster that had occurred between his pumpkin-eyed friend and her estranged, flighty mother.

His paws dragged him in the direction of the mountain but he dared not venture up the snow-covered slopes. Not without seeking permission from his leaders first. The dark agouti knew it would take him a few days to reach the lake his grandmother had described; he could not leave without asking first. Sachiel did not want his leaders to think he was deserting them—not after all they had done for him.

Ever since the beginning of heat season the boy had spending most of his time beyond the Edge borders, scouting and tending to the caches as he couldn’t stand to be around the agitated adults. Especially the older females. He was very fortunate his friend did not share the same scent, although he worried it would claim her in the years to come. While they weren't always attached at the hip Sachiel couldn’t imagine having to avoid her for thirty-one days—that seemed impossible!

He shuddered at the thought as he kicked at a snow pile, his brows falling into a tight line. The agouti had veered closer to the edge of the forest, the shades of green he adored muted by the abundance of snow. He was impatient for spring to finally make an appearance. His mismatched gaze trailed to the mountain in the distance, the corners of his mouth dropping as he wondered how long it would take him to reach the Cove…

I've been meaning to jump in this thread a long time ago :D

Her head was spinning. She hated the feeling, the constant nagging feeling she felt to just get over it and him and overflow of emotion she was experiencing from losing a wolf she had true feelings for and a pack that had rejected him. She wondered what had happened to him, where he would go and a part of her had begun to search for him with a hope to get a tingle of his familiarity back. She loved Aytigin as any female would love a male, and even though they had never been intimate and shared limited memories she was convinced that his love for her was just as strong. He had even confessed it (as well as his love for the entire pack) and she was convinced that it was all she needed to keep her going and searching for him.

Mountains surrounded her and for a moment she wondered if she had went too far. She couldn't recall ever being on this side of the Lore but the silence was welcoming and the scenery was strangely beautiful despite the chill. She walked with her head down, her confidence shredded and heart shattered into pieces but one would think she was tracking when looking at her from a distance and she hoped it was enough to keep unwanted company at bay. She wanted nothing more than to find Aytigin and find the answered she needed but at the rate she was going it would probably be days before she'd see him again. In the distance was a figure she might had remembered if she were paying attention but she wanted so desperately to ignore him in hopes that he would do the same; her attention was unfortunately devoted to finding her love and nothing more.

He gave his head a small shake in an attempt to dismiss any thoughts of the mountain. That could wait for another day. Heck, maybe he’d even ask @Hawthorne if she wanted to take the tip up the mountains with him—if Askan and Reyes would allow it, of course. Sachiel didn’t want to step on their toes or assume he and Hawthorne could do as they pleased. Even if they were the O.G. pups around the Edge. He couldn’t help but wonder if they’d acquire anymore cubs in the coming months; abandoned by their parents just like he and his greyscale friend had been. Pumpkin Eyes more so, as the agouti boy had been the one to initiate the abandoning. As long as they proved themselves and were hardworking Sachiel didn’t see any problems with acquiring more youth, but he certainly wasn’t interested in puppysitting. He had enough on his plate as it was.

A familiar scent pulled him away from his scents, causing his steps to slow as he scanned the snow-covered forest. His mismatched gaze fell upon the pale female in the distance, the corners of his mouth falling into a soft frown. It was the wolf that had been looking for Cottongrass, and she wore a similar expression to one he’d seen when they first met. Disarrayed and a little sad. Was she still looking for the owlish male, or was it another missing wolf that sent the female south? She wore the same scent as the raven-coloured cub he’d hunted with a few weeks ago, which meant she probably belonged to the same pack. Huh. His nose twisted to the side as he took a hesitant step toward her, his expression soft as his lips remained tight; his tongue slack.

Cat got your tongue

She'd become so engrossed in her own thoughts, wants and needs that she had completely forgotten that there was someone in the vicinity until his smell practically smacked her in the face, demanding that she took notice and for a brief moment her paws had finally stopped moving. She looked at the agouti male with sad eyes, and if one could get close enough they would have noticed the dry tears on her face and the slight sniffle from her nose. She eyed her company in silence, envious that he was not sad or worried, but happy non the less that she recognized him from a previous meeting and slowly, as though she had to think deliberately about it, her tail began to wag. She faked her happiness (which was nothing new) and forced a smile on her lips but they didn't match the redness of her sad eyes and probably wouldn't for a long time.

"You look like you might have grown since the last time I saw you." she said, attempting to make conversation although she honestly couldn't remember if he had grown since their last encounter, especially since she had been crying her eyes out that meeting too. It was becoming their norm. "I never found him, Cottongrass," she started off again, wanting to jolt his memory in case he thought some strange wolf was making conversation with him and thought to mention, "I think it's safe to say he's gone." she said, her voice nearly cracking. She didn't want to think about which kind of gone, and settled on a level of gone that didn't make her heart bend and bang with any more sadness than she could handle.

How could one wolf manage so much sadness--she bottled it up with a pretty bow for sake keeping, that's how.

She didn’t look right. Her expression was all wrong, dripping in shades of soft blue and grey; sadness. The corners of his mouth drooped but he didn’t comment on the way her eyes drooped or question their redness. Mostly because he didn’t care—she wasn’t one of the Edge wolves; her personal woes did not effect him. The last time, however, her sadness had been due to the disappearance of a certain owlish wolf, so it was entirely possible that she had lost another wolf. But, once again, that was none of his concern. Not unless the wolf belonged to the Shallows, and the last time he checked they weren’t missing any wolves…

I suppose so, he commented with a lazy shrug. Months had passed since the last time he’d seen her. While he didn’t feel like he had grown Sachiel knew that he had. Mostly because he was a lot faster now—stronger, too.

His ears twitched at her words, a frown tracing his dark features. Unfortunately, the boy wasn’t surprised. Cottongrass had been loyal to the Edge wolves; he would not have left unless something had happened to him, or chased him away. He just hoped that it had been the latter, as the thought of something bad happening to the naïve wolf caused a lump to form in the back of his throat. Yeah, he mumbled in response, his right forepaw kicking absently at the snow, I figured as much. Sorry ‘bout that. He didn’t really know what else to say. She was too blue-grey for him; he didn’t know how to make her yellow. Heck, he’d even settle for a brighter blue, but he was at a loss.

She couldn't help thinking about how beautiful his features were. He was handsome, his mix-matched eyes would have normally made her swoon if they didn't always seem to meet when Rory was at her lowest point. She was sure that while she thought he was a masterpiece, he was probably thinking about how much of a mess she was, and rightly so. She bit her lip, contemplating on what to say next since she didn't want him to leave and she feared that her constant worrying would run him away so she thought it was best to change the subject. The hardest part was finding something to talk about that would interest him. She knew that any mention of Cottongrass was pointless at this point, and the very thought nearly made a tear fall down the length of her face with pure frustration but she held it together and pushed through the emotion long enough to force a smile. She only hoped that he couldn't tell that she was pretending. "It's out of anyone's hands," she said, sighing briefly, and continued on. "Forgive me, I don't mean to sound so down." it was an honest attempt to lighten the mood, her tail swayed slow behind her. He had dismissed her comment about his growth, his response lead her to believe that he had heard these comments before and they had become mundane to him so she switched the topic to the smell on his pelt; it had not changed since their last encounter and she'd grown genuinely interested in how the pack was fairing. "How is Shallow Edge? Is Askan still the lead?" she wondered casually, having known the male personally. Though her thoughts of the male had changed since their last encounter she didn't have the guts or energy to make her way back toward the pack, it pained her too much to know that Cottongrass would no longer be waiting just outside the border for her.

The agouti Selwyn was trying his best to mask how uncomfortable he was, as he worked better with sarcasm and sharp wit rather than sadness and empathy. Sure, he was bummed that Cottongrass had gone missing and no one had figured out where he’d gone, but wolves came and went. Sachiel knew that all too well, as he had left his previous pack along with his parents. Maybe the Edge wasn’t where the owlish male was supposed to be. Maybe he’d found something better; something too good to pass up. Whatever. It didn’t matter. Sachiel had other things to worry about—like the pale, sad-looking girl in front of him. He shrugged once more at her comments, the corners of his mouth tightening into a soft frown. Not knowing how to respond Sachiel chose to remain quiet, his chin angling to the side as he studied her.

Her question, however, came as a surprise. He’d forgotten that she was familiar with the Edge wolves; Askan in particular. S’okay he started, his previous frown turning into a small smile. Truthfully the shallows were better than just okay—heck, he was a Selwyn now!—but he didn’t feel like rubbing in how awesome his pack was to the gloomy girl. Not when she was already such a subdued shade of blue. Despite being indifferent to her woes, Sachiel didn’t want to make her feel worse. Him ’n Reyes, yeah. Another shrug. You up north then… Driftwood? Man, he hated small talk.

I can't believe I made you wait!!! :( this isnt so good, next one will be better!

She had long since hoped the pale male was better off where ever he had managed to house himself, it was the best she could do given the lack of information and that he had been gone for well over a month. She refused to write him off as gone, or deceased but merely looked at it as his opportunities elsewhere were more prominent than here and she had no problem running with that idea. Sachiel was nice enough to entertain her and she smiled through the sadness that was attempting to reclaim her, focusing on his mix-matched eyes made her feel a strange sense of happiness as slowly her smile grew broad and authentic. "Askan is a nice wolf, I never met Reyes but I would guess the same." more small talk--she was both gloomy and boring. "I am, Lachesis and his mate Lilya lead. Do you leave the Edge much, maybe you can come visit? I'd love to show you a tour." she said, eyes gleaming at the idea of a friend actually visiting for her.

<3 s'all good!

His forepaws shuffled awkwardly beneath her gaze, his black-tipped tail flicking behind him as she spoke of his leaders. As he suspected she was familiar with Askan—otherwise she would not have asked about him—but she had not been acquainted with the dark male’s partner. The duo was comparable to the agouti boy and his peppered friend: two peas in a pod. Except him and Hawthorne weren’t a couple because ew, that’s gross!Right? He dismissed his thoughts with a sharp flick of his tail, his mismatched gaze still focused on her gloomy girl as she confirmed that she was a member of the Surge. Lachesis and Lilya. He’d heard the names before but had not encountered either during his adventures north. There would be plenty of time to bump into one of the leaders, however, so the tawny boy was not worried. Sometimes, he answered with another dismissive shrug. Most of his excursions beyond the Edge were with Pumpkin Eyes in tow—aside from today, of course. I’ve seen some of it before, he admitted, his chin tipped to the side, was hunting with one of the cubs. S’not a bad place. But it paled in comparison to the shallows.
