Harlem Bryte
cloudy, 59 ° F / 15 ° C, all welcome!

The promise of a storm dawning upon the land was approaching with a quickening pace, clouds overhead dark and foreboding, however Harlem refused to deny herself the drive to explore. Toes splayed to grip at the slick, muddied earth beneath her paws during her stride, only slowing to a brief halt when the trees around her expanded into a vast, vibrant clearing. The smell of various plants coiled around her senses, eventually luring her deeper into the open. Had she listened to the few lessons her elders gave about herbs, perhaps she would have gotten some use out of the ones surrounding her. Tough luck.

Solitary life was surprisingly less difficult to get accustomed to than Harlem expected prior to leaving the Grotto—most likely due to how openly opposed to it her packmates were—although for some reason, it still sounded strange to call herself a rouge. No longer the little Starlight and hardly ever a Bryte, anyway. Thank fuck.

Aside from the cluster of flowers surrounding her, the female was able to trace faint scents of other wolves wading through the meadow. Unfortunately, the rain had washed away the majority, leaving little to capture her interest.

Hawthorne Selwyn

She had been here recently, trashed some of the fresh flowers but tussling with @Reyes. It had been nice and yet somehow...the weight still sat heavy on her shoulders like it had a week ago. She hadn't expected a tussle to fix everything but she had also hoped that it would.

Foolish - that's what she had been.

The yearling rounded the meadow at first, trying to stick to the trees. Part of her figured the coyotes might still be lingering around or if that she stepped a foot into the opening they would suddenly appear from nowhere. It caused a scowl to cross her face that was only deepened as she picked up on the scent of someone else.

Hawthorne noticed they seemed to be alone. Perhaps the moisture had washed off the scent of any others but she figured that if anyone was sticking close to the strange they'd still be detected.

Ain't safe out here. She spoke in low tones as she carefully stepped a paw out from the trees and into the meadow. For once, Hawthorne wasn't making herself to be the threat. This forest had bigger problems than her at the moment.

"Ain't safe out here." A voice broke the silence from behind Harlem, dismissing her assumption of the place being desolate. She cast her fiery gaze over her shoulder, eyes running up and down the other wolf's frame before answering easily, "Why's that?" Unless her senses betrayed her, there were no borders in the nearby area. In fact, she hadn't even encountered a single pack wolf out in the open ever since first stepping into the Vale. Strange at first, however the pale girl merely chalked it up to things just being different than around her birthplace. She was fortunate enough not to be plagued by the coyotes. Not yet.

The pale stranger answered back easy enough and Hawthorne felt like maybe she had done well in not coming out here all pissy and bitter like usual. Not that this one interaction was going to change the habits she had been building for about half of her life now.

A lot of coyotes around lately...they seem to be keen on pestering wolves - pack wolves even. Figure they wouldn't mind picking off a loner if they don't mind pack wolves. Her shoulders gave a sharp shrug. Just a word of caution. If the pale loner wanted to keep moving Hawthorne wouldn't mind but well, she supposed she was trying to be nice. Ya got somewhere to go? The yearling asked with a soft tilt of her head.

Coyotes pestering wolves wasn't a very abstract statement to begin with. Harlem had been the victim of the bloody thieves more than once before. However, a brow quirked questioningly when the female mentioned them specifically pestering pack wolves. Coyotes were fucking stupid, obviously, but repeatedly nagging a full group of wolves broke the record. No doubt.

Did she have anywhere to go? The rest of the world, hopefully, but if what the girl said about coyotes was true, she supposed it would narrow her chances of exploring the Vale quite substantially. The female's tone sounded promising though, and after a brief moment of thinking, Harlem rolled her shoulders in an inauspicious shrug. "No. Just got here. You offering?" You miss all the shots you don't take, right? "Harlem, by the way."

Just might be. She spoke casually, tone lacking any real enthusiasm or liveliness. There would be some ground rules she might set if she was to drag her back to the Edge but she was still getting a feel for the stranger turned potential recruit. Didn't want to bring anything bad home to her leaders.

Hawthorne. The Selwyn offered her name in a fair return. If you have something to offer, there might be a place for you Harlem. Her lips twitched but she couldn't force herself to make a smile even for show. Can't just give out food and shelter for free. It was a simple concept and if the older female didn't understand it then Hawthorne would count that as strike one.

"Consider me interested, then." She commented. It was no surprise that whatever pack Hawthorne was part of wasn't going to feed her for free, and besides, she was no longer a child. Harlem could take care of herself just fine as long as it meant she could avoid the coyotes until they pissed right off. Once they did, who knew what would happen. The girl wasn't a wolf capable of easy commitment, but she supposed that was an issue to deal with in the future. For now, she decided it would be helpful to actually hear about the pack.

"Care to tell me something about it?" Values, inner-workings, anything to mold a somewhat reasonable opinion on whose territory she would be traversing. You know - just to make sure they weren't cannibals or plant worshippers or any of that weird shit.
