1-2 others. scattered clouds.

She always followed the rivers. It was all she knew. She was familiar with mountains and forests, too, but not like these ones. Nothing would compare to the coast… not the abundance of lakes and rivers she had come across. Nothing. The ocean had her heart but her paws craved something more. More than the sand and broken shells. Fresh, untravelled soil. Crisp leaves. Unknown terrain. Her mother had spoken moderately about the south, claiming that there must have been something special about it as her siblings and her packmates never returned to the north. Her mother, however, was even more of a sea wolf than she was. There was nothing that could tear her away from the coast. She would have to be forcibly removed (again) to be separated from the salty water.

Blue, on the other paw, had the freedom of exploring the unknown. The thirst for it. She craved knowledge and expanding her mental map. Strangers she could do without but the girl knew they were necessary. Not always, but sometimes. Especially if she needed to find something particular.

She wondered if her relatives still called the Lore home or if they vacated the land just as her mother had done. It was possible that they had found their own slice of coast to call their own after not being able to find their way back to Bella Coola. It did not make sense how they would not have been able to find their way back—all they had to do was follow the coast north!—but it was possible that the southern woods had made them dumb. Or nose blind. But not her mother—or Blue. The cerulean-eyed girl was too smart to fall victim to the trees.

She waded along the edge of the river, the cold water pooling around her ankles as she observed her surroundings. It was nothing spectacular but it would do for now.

Each day he got a little older and so each day his parents watched him a little less. Which made exploring -- like he did today -- much easier. Although he never went too far. Today he had followed the water to a new place. Part of him had been hoping he'd find @Jenny and she could teach him how she did magic with the water. But he did not see, smell, or hear her at all. A disappointment to say the least.

Boredom eventually settled in (because splashing was only fun for so long) and he contemplated heading back home. But there was someone just up ahead, a lady he had never seen before. She didn't look like anything too wild (not smudged like Jenny and not a pitch black void like himself) and so he saw her as approachable.

Without a care in the world, he loped towards her and bounded into the water near her own spot. Zale had not attempted to hide his arrival at all and so he expected her full attention.

It did not take long for another wolf to find her. This time, however, it was a much smaller wolf than the one she had last encountered. A bundle of ebony fur and brilliant, emerald green eyes. A child. She frowned, absolutely perplexed by his appearance. Although he smelt of others he appeared to be alone… but she did not know if that was a good thing or not. It was possible that there were others lurking in the trees or that the boy was lost. Or maybe his pack was nearby. Truthfully, she did not care why he was out on his own. He wasn’t her problem. She was just passing through, minding her own. The boy was the one bothering her.

She stepped back, away from him, her nose wrinkled slightly as she studied him with a cocked brow. Can I help you? She greeted flatly, her tail flicking idly behind her. She was not into puppy-sitting if that was what the boy was wanting.
