Doon Ironwood
Evening | Cloudy | Speech Thought | @Avella
Doon had pushed himself, only stopping to rest, drink and eat. Doon couldn't say he really had to push himself, his urgency was borne more from a desire to see everything that there was to see in this new place. Excitement, not need, fueled his journey at this point, excitement and wanting to meet all those he could, he was planning on putting down roots and staying around after all. Still, as hard as he'd pushed himself, it had been nearly four days since his stop at that bend in the river.

It was time to take a few days rest and what a spot he'd lucked out to be in! A beautiful series of large falls that emptied into a shallow pool, perfectly shallow enough for Doon. Not so deep that his superstitions would drive him from the water in a fearful scamper but not so shallow that he couldn't swim. Doon eased into the cool waters, shivering slightly at first before he became accustomed to its temperature. Swimming a few circuits around the edge of the pool restored a bit of Doon's joy and eased his aching paws and legs. During his swims Doon noticed a few silver flashes of fishes when he got near and they bolted for less wolfy waters.

Doon decided he'd swam enough and was hungrier now and a fish dinner or 3 sounded right nice. Doon exited the pool, shook the water joyfully from his coat and perched over a calmer edge of the pool where he could get his jaws around a juicy fish. Now he just had to wait.

Avella Archer
Reaching the bottom of the mountain had been a relief. There had just been too many rocky outcroppings and icy paths for her taste. Avella wouldn't be deterred though. Zhe was on a mission to get to the pack that resided in heartleaf creek. She hoped that while she was there she'd be able to see Clover again. She'd really liked the woman and hoped that maybe they could help each other. After her meeting with the wolves of Sanguine Cove she was feeling a little more confident.

She'd left Hagar for a quick look around in case there might be something to eat. Her little excursion had taken her to the falls she'd known to be in the area. Avella had her nose to the ground searching for a prey trail. She was hoping for a rabbit that she could share with Hagar before they finished their journey to the backwater.

At first she didn't see the male perched at the water's edge. It wasn't until she lifted her head to scent the air that she saw him. At first she wasn't sure what he was doing until she realized that beneath him was the pool that the falls fell into. "Hello," she said in friendly tones, "Having any luck?"

Doon's partly open muzzle inches from the water prevented him from sensing the approach of another wolf. The greeting caused him to twitch slightly in surprise scattering a group of fish he hadn't even known was there. Watching the retreating fish forlornly for a moment Doon turned toward the wolf, "Ain't a bit of luck I'm afraid friend, didn't even know those bastards were so close! If they'd been snakes I'd have been in real trouble."

Now that he was actually giving over his whole attention to the newcomer Doon noticed that it was a female wolf, though somewhat larger than himself, white all over with a spattering of dark-ish markings framing eyes of two different colors. A very striking and unique appearance to be sure, Doon was mesmerized for a moment specifically by the wolf's one blue and one yellow eye. Remembering himself Doon inclined his head respectfully, "Howdy ma'am, my name's Doon. I very obviously ain't from 'round here, I ain't trespassing am I?"

Avella Archer
In the evening light Avella could make out that the man was a little smaller than she. He seemed to have a friendly presence as he turned toward her. She laughed when he spoke of the fish being a snake. "You win some and you lose some," she commented taking in the damp look of his coat. That left her to wondering what he might have been doing before she'd arrived on the scene. "Its a good thing they aren't snakes then," she added.

Avella sat back on her haunches letting her tail curl around her paws. He went on to explain that he wasn't from the area and wanted to know if he was trespassing. "No, not at all. The nearest pack is still a little ways off. I'm actually on my way there," she explained. Now that it was evening she thought that maybe she should speak to Hagar about resting for the night. Her thoughts turned back to the man in front of her, "So tell me what brings you to the lore?"

The female sat back and Doon took that to mean he could relax too, as earnest as he was in meeting with other wolves you never could quite be sure about their intentions. So far Doon had relied on taking cues from whomever he'd met instead of baring his teeth at some anticipated attack that may never have come otherwise. So far this tactic was working superbly. Doon shook a bit more of water from his coat, more shaking off the frustration at losing the fish than the pervading damp that wouldn't leave his coat yet, and then he too sat back, relaxed.

Doon hesitated a moment, Could she be meaning the pool? Is it called lore? Not really having anything else to go on Doon decided to go with that and answered, "I was headin' south and happened on this pool," Doon glanced at the falls emptying into the pool, "Lore you called it? Odd as far as names go for a place like this I guess, but I ain't one for naming a place." Doon also wondered if maybe the female was looking to join the pack she'd mentioned or maybe she knew more about the local packs and could help Doon decide where he'd like to stay. "Maybe you could help me out ma'am? I'm lookin' to have a more permanent place to rest my paws, that pack you mentioned you looking to join up? You know what they're like?"

Avella Archer
Not sensing any threat from the man Avella took a seat in the snow. She hoped that it would put the man at ease with her. Her experiences in early life amd even later always helped when dealing with wolves that were alone. At least she assumed he was by himself since there weren't any other scents in the area. Having never seen him before she wondered what had drawn him here. Had he come here for a particular reason or had he happened upon this place. Either way she had a few moments to help if it was needed or just converse with someone new, maybe make a friend.

Her mismatched gaze drifted to the pool that he'd abandon when she'd spoken. "It is rather beautiful here, though the spring will make that even more clear," she commented. Then he asked about the lore, "I did, most wolves who were born here know it as that and those that have been here a while. The southern part is actually where I'm from." She found it rather interesting that the south was where he'd been heading. She nodded when he spoke of the pack that she'd talked about. "I'm visiting actually. I've been working to start a pack in my birthplace and I'm on my way to introduce myself and let them know what I'm doing. The wolves myself and those with me have met all seem to be nice so I'm hoping to strike a friendship with them."

Doon Ironwood
Doon perked up at the mention of the woman being from the south and then again at her mention of starting a pack there, Might be easier than I thought finding someplace to settle down, hopin' this goes well. Doon didn't want to come right out and say he'd like to come along just yet, didn't feel right asking someone he'd only just met so he let his thoughts and gaze wander the surrounding area trying to imagine spring, "I sure am lookin' forward to seein' the spring, must be a sight to see with everything bein' all green and such. I myself come form a place where there's more brown than green far south o'here, 'cept when the storms come through bad. Then's been the only time I'd seen so much water and plants around, course," Doon toward his potential friend, "It still ain't as much water as I already been seein' here that's the truth."

Doon's mind worked a moment on the dilemma of wanting to join the woman as she visited other packs, if he didn't find one he liked then there was always the option of offering to help create hers. Then he remembered that he'd already mentioned he was looking for some place to settle and that made the asking much easier. Doon stood, "So you know I been lookin' for someplace to call my own so to speak, you mind if I join you? I can assure you that I can pull my own weight ma'am, ain't no cause to worry bout that. If none of the other packs are to my liking then I offer to help you build yours up." Remembering he was still on the lookout for his sister, Doon added, "I still have got some personal business needs takin' care of but I promise that it won't distract me from my duties in the pack. I just can't promise how long I'd be there, if it calls me away I'd need to go." Doon hoped the woman understood, that part of his life he didn't want to get into with his new acquaintance. Not yet.

Avella Archer
Avella listened as the man described the place that he'd come from. She could only think of what his thoughts would be once the lore came back to life. "Stick around here long enough and you'll get to see all of the lore at one of its prettiest times. Fall has its own kind of beauty too. Much better than what you have described of the place you come from. This here isn't the only water supply in the lore either." Avella might be a little biased but she'd lived in a few places and very few of them could stand beside the lore in the beauty department.

It seemed it was time to get down to the nitty gritty of things. Avella had in the back of her mind been hoping for this. Yet another member to her pack and she felt she was getting quite good at this recruiting thing. What would @Scully think when she brought someone else home. The masked wan listened to the man's proposal. "You are more than welcome to join me and please call me Avella."{b} She didn't particularly like being called ma'am. {b}"I only ask that you pull your weight and help were needed and come and speak to me. If something comes up and you have to leave I ask that you speak to me first, let me know what's going on. I will not take kindly to you leaving without a word." She wanted to make that very clear because she would not welcome a deserter back. If they did not have the respect for her to come and discuss the situation then they would not have it if they returned. She was an Archer, she wasn't stupid. "If you can handle what I've laid out than I would be happy for you to accompany my to this pack as we visit and then home."[/b][/b]

Doon Ironwood
Doon was ecstatic to say the least though he still wanted to get a feel of the packs already established first he was glad for Avella's acceptance of his proposal all the same. "I'll do that Avella, you've given me two things to look forward to I feel like I could dance! I can't thank you enough for lettin' me come along with you. We have other travelin' companions?" Forgoing the dance, despite his assertion, Doon gave his rapt and undivided attention to Avella as she laid out the rules and her expectations for his joining the pack.

"You can count on me, Avella. Like I said, if the other packs ain't to my liking then I will give yours all the energy I got. I give you my word as an Ironwood. Doon allowed a bit of saliva to escape his mouth, raised a paw to wipe it off his muzzle and slammed that paw into the dirt. Not until after he'd pledged his own body's water did he realize it may not convey the strong promise that it was to someone who wasn't from the desert and quickly added, Ahhhh pardon for that display, suffice to say I've made you a strong promise on my word and my body's water. Ain't nothing more binding back where I'm from." Of course a promise made with blood from his own bitten paw would have been even more binding but Doon already felt awkward having made such a strong pledge to someone who didn't understand his ways, he sure as Death wasn't going to reveal more now.
