Thread for @Ally to discover Silverveil Gorge
Noon, Broken Clouds, -4F/-20C
Silverveil Gorge, shaped by a relentless stream over time, is a narrow valley with steep stone walls. To grasp its grandeur, one must enter from downstream, where entry and exit are feasible. Remarkably, life thrives here, as trees and plants cling to the rocks, adding vibrancy to the rugged landscape. The gorge culminates in two tranquil pools, one slightly elevated, shimmering under dappled sunlight filtering through the leafy canopy. Beyond the second pool lies an awe-inspiring cascade which continues to flow even in the deep winter.

It had been a couple of weeks since Jethro had disappeared and the new leader had found the ominous scene. It had been hard to balance her new leadership responsibility and wanting to spend all of her time out looking. Looking for her mate, looking for her sons, or at least a sign that they were okay. At least today she had been able to excuse the excursion as a lesson on scouting since she was taking Ally with her. The girl had not been with them for too long, maybe a full moon by now, and Finley had not spent too much time with her.

She knew she had to try more, to be more social with everyone. But, it was hard. Colette had passed, both her boys were away, and who knows what had happened to Jethro. It felt like the large majority of her support system was gone and that she was starting over again. She still had Flair and Chan but they were tied up in their own problems right now, which meant despite now being the leader she felt very left out in the cold.

So they had been traveling to the east, looking for something, anything, that would lead to one of their missing members. They had wound their way up and into a gorge, following the icy banks of a river that still flowed at parts and was frozen over in others. When Finley finally looked up, she let out a small gasp. The water still plunged over the rocks here and despite the overall cloudy day the area still emanated a surreal kind of beauty. Had this always been here? How had she never seen it before?

She was going on a field trip.

Ally had been concerned at first, worried she might get lost again, but Finley was nice, and she was looking for somebody too. Jethro had vanished right after the pup arrived. Ally worried about him in the detached way she could worry about a stranger, while she was worrying about her dad. She missed him.

Ally followed Finley quietly, taking in her surroundings and trying to memorize her path - just in case. She wanted to be able to find her way to a safe place if she needed to. When Finley paused so did she, and she turned her eyes upon that which had drawn a gasp from her leader. The pup's eyes went wide. "Whoa," she said.

Green eyes moved from tree to tree, trying to take in every rock, every droplet of water, memorize the way the sun's ray illuminated everything when it peaked through the clouds. It felt like a deep breath of fresh air that filled her all the way into her belly. A soft smile pulled across her muzzle, eyes lit up in delight. For the first time in a long time, she felt good. She heard Ally beside her and nodded in agreement, ”It’s beautiful,” her voice filled with wonder.

It in fact might be the most breathtaking place that she had ever seen. Tentatively the agouti Lennox woman took a step forward, almost nervous that if she moved too quickly that the spell would be broken. The stones were smooth beneath her paws, and as she stepped into the sunlight her smile grew. Despite the freezing temperatures it felt warm here as they were protected from the winds and the sun reflected off the rocks and water. Turning back to Ally she grinned, ”I’ve never seen anything like this before.” It almost looked like an idyllic version of Paradise Falls. She wished Jethro were here, or her sons, or Atara, she would need to come back here once they were all together.
