Anxiety twisted in Jessamy's gut. She shouldn't be wandering this far. She couldn't help but feel like her parents were looking over her shoulder, about to scold her for wandering off, for going without one of her brothers, without telling one of her brothers. She wanted that more than anything. To hear her mother's worried voice one more time, hear her father telling her off. Even if they spoke with disappointment or anger, at least they would be speaking.
She couldn't believe she wanted to get in trouble. She'd spent so much time doing what they wanted, and now they weren't here to be upset with her for not behaving anymore.
She wanted to live, right? Well, she can live how she wants, and get some excitement, and maybe when she closed her eyes and opened them again this would all be a bad dream and her mother would be complaining about her having a fever...
In her daydreaming it took Sam a long moment to realize she could see another wolf in the distance. She paused, for an instant thinking it was one of her parents - but no, they were white. Even covered in snow her parents could never look like that. The wolf looked up and even at the distance Sam could see them wink at her. She gaped, opening her mouth to call out to them, but a gust of wind picked up and by the time it had died down and Jessamy could see again, the wolf had gone. "Wait!" she called, stumbling toward where she'd see them. "Wait for me!"
i want to turn you loose
