<blockquote>Morning. A time of light, of sunshine bright, of everything that defies the night. Devoid of <span class='word'>casuistry</span>, devoid of doubt, devoid of danger - in the most conventional sense, at least. It was in the moments when the sky painted itself a beautiful, wordless gradient, stretching on for eternity and beyond. And the sun hung brightly in the sky, burning, spilling liquid sunlight down down down until the land was aflame with warmth and brightness. Songbirds meticulously weaved mellifluous melodies and opened their voices to the new day. The new world.

And it was to this day, this new world that Veldrin Draelin opened with gray blue eyes to. He woke up moments before the sunrise - a habit he'd attained and maintained ever since he was but a pup. There was an immediate but not alarming transformation from his serene, sleeping face and relaxed position to a more watchful yet still neutral expression and his formal yet natural posture. He stood tall, raising his steel gray coat to meet the warmth of the sun, and emerged from the tangled forest in which he'd slept for the past night. Into a field, a meadow of wildflowers.

It was beautiful, it was aethereal, it certainly was, to any bystander. But Veldrin wasn't just any bystander. He was Veldrin, and therefore he was entitled to a lack of appreciation for flowers. So he ignored the bursts of scarlet red and lay down on the grassy carpet, keeping a watchful eye for sudden movements - be they wolf or prey.</blockquote>

THERE'S A PLACE I KNOW IF YOU'RE LOOKIN' FOR A SHOW
She remembered flowers. Red, orange, yellow, once calming colors that warmed her soul... They brought paranoia now, brief flickers of the bright light and intense heat dancing past her consciousness. More haunting was the color black, a color that had overwhelmed her senses upon returning to Hidden Tree, a color that had flecked two bitterly familiar coats.

Regardless of the significance of such colors, Junai found herself venturing towards an all too familiar place hidden in the Thicket of Secrets. She had chanced upon in months ago on one of her foolish exploring adventures; she had actually been afraid, what with how labyrinthine the thicket could be, before chancing upon the sanctuary. Vaguely, she could remember her mother chancing upon her and laying amid the flowers, talking, just talking... Her ears pulled back at the painful memories, but she continued onward, pushing past low-hanging branches. It was not long before she arrived at the sanctuary and her eyes met both red and black—the latter completely and entirely unwelcome in such a place. Unable to help herself, Junai scowled at the sight of the stranger, a stranger who was laying so nonchalantly where her mother should have—would have—been laying. Forever brash and quick-tempered, she asked rather sourly, <b style="color:#333E4B; font-family:georgia;">“How'd you find this place?”

<blockquote>Veldrin drank in the sunlight, allowing the fluid sunlight to fully and entirely cause his silky, well-groomed coat to glimmer and shimmer. While he was not vain, he was not disrespectful to others or himself, and simply found maintaining his image a necessity. He did things merely because he thought they were necessary or slightly amusing - not out of passion or curiosity or because he wanted to 'go with the flow'. Any other wolf in his position would have closed his eyes to the all-encompassing warmth of the sun and savored the arrival of the new day. He preferred to keep a watchful eye on his surroundings - not hard, seeing as he was in a flat meadow surrounded by a forest - and watching the sky paint wistful, wispy cirrus clouds.

So, naturally, the steel gray male noticed the arrival of the smaller female. He remained indifferent and apathetic to her lashing inquiry, preferring not to give an immediate reaction. Unlike the black-hued female, Veldrin was one to think through problems - logical and rational, yet extremely decisive. He simply stared steadily into her golden eyes, and waited for a few moments, which would most likely be uncomfortable and frustrating to the quick-tempered female. <b>"Just because you had a particularly difficult time locating this meadow doesn't mean I did, my dear acquaintance,"</b> he finally spoke, voice fluid and smooth, exuding with a refreshing taste of charisma and nonchalance. He gave a slight, half-amused smile.</blockquote>

Her question was answered, at least for a short time, by little more than silence. Was he deaf or simply stupid? She stared right back at him, a scowl prevalent on her sharp features, willing him to break the tension-filled silence. After all, what fun was harassing someone if they didn't even respond? It would seem that her pointed stare worked, if only slightly—when he finally spoke, his words were neither frightened nor apologetic, but snide and mocking. Of course, he looked like a fool either way, because she hardly had a difficult time finding the glade; she had stumbled across it when she was younger by chance and now she could probably relocate it with her eyes closed. Either way, the fact remained that this stranger simply didn't belong here. She was immature and most childish in her reasoning, but he didn't fit with the setting. He was stark and cold like snow, nothing like her mother who seemed to radiate a comforting sort of warmth like a spring day.

<b style="color:#125d7c;">“You don't know what you're talking about, you arrogant little worm.” Perhaps she was the arrogant one, for this meadow hardly belonged to her—not technically, at least. As far as Junai was concerned, however, that was neither here nor there; there were other places he could go, right? He had come from somewhere and he could go right back. Life would have been easier that way, easier if everyone just left... Perhaps she was taking out her current emotional problems out on him and anyone else unfortunate enough to cross her. Ah well, that was their problem. <b style="color:#125d7c;">“Don't you have anywhere else to be? Flowers are for girls.” Maybe that would get him to shoo, though it seemed unlikely... If nothing else, arguing was a good way to let go of some steam, right?
