Heading further northward, Theo came across a surprising site. The endless forest continued, but what lay in wake was as if Death rode through. Still corpses of burnt tree were strewn across the land. Only small areas were dashed with greenery, but soon further dustings of snow would drive back any further growth. It wasn’t a site Theodor particularly enjoyed. An area didn’t just have one forest fire. Surely there would be more in the future. And whether he lived nearby or not was up to his choosing. Lips deepening into a thoughtful frown, the black wolf raised his head. Burning amber eyes scanned the remaining terrain. It would be difficult – though not impossible – to find food here.
Ears twitching as the scent and sound of bubbling water in the distance drew him in alike a moth to light. His steps were rushed though he remained at a comfortable trot – tongue hanging from his mouth. Rustling nearby, however, would capture the lone wolf’s immediate attention. His jaw quietly closed and he slowed silently to a halt. alert ears swerved atop his head as it snaked cautiously lower to the ground. His mouth watering at the mere thought that his next meal could possibly be underneath the newly grown brush.

Life had been becoming tougher within Swift River for young Jessie. Indru had left, leaving her uncertain of who to look to for guidance. She could not believe her once faithful leader had left them all, and with two others! Her blood now instantly told her that any scent of the male meant to kill…or at least to injure. The hunt she had with the pack had been a good one, giving her enough adrenaline to last awhile, but Ice and her had snapped at each other and she had been purposefully avoiding him since the day, though was starting to make her way back to her pack mate, not wanting things to get to tense between them. The run in with Rhysis had left Jessie stiff and slightly upset. Something had happened with Hotei, even though she didn’t know what it was, and he had purposely snapped at her, leaving her heart slightly heavy.

Now she quietly padded next to her new alpha, Marsh. He seemed to be the only one she could hang around now, her sister was hardly around and she scarcely new the alphess within the pack. He seemed to be the only normal one. Jessie had hardly seen Rissa around anymore either…the young girl was probably off traveling or something now that she had gotten older. The gray girl surely only felt comfortable around the large silent guardian now. For even if he did have something to say to her, he wouldn’t, and she could take his silent criticism. She had learned how to read some of his body language, and one day she hoped to be able to fully understand his ways of communication.

Her small paws caught up with his pace, her emerald eyes observing the burnt forest around them. She had never really been in this sacred place before, and even though the scene before her was horrid, it was also breathtaking. Every here or there patches of green could be seen. Small animals scrambled around them, but she knew they weren’t here for a hunt, the two were here to look around and for Jessie to work on her observing skills. Getting distracted by unwanted thoughts weren’t going to help her. Ears twitching, her head snapped in the direction the wind was coming in as another wolf’s scent caught her nose. Her head raised slightly before tilting her head to the side to probe Marsh’s shoulder before jutting her nose in the direction of the scent.
