RE: There are an unusual number of foxes being sighted around Relic Lore.
@Florence & @Vera (?)

In the darkest shadows we find the brightest parts of ourselves

Two times before in the last week, Nayeli had noticed the pungent scent of fox lingering about the Bend's territory. On the first occasion, she had other matters to attend to before she could be bothered with the creature, and on the second, the scent trail had seemed to wander well away from the borders. This time though, she had happened upon the small red canine face-to-face, while it was trying to raid one of the pack's food stores. She was certain it was the same beast - it had the same musky stench to it. She'd had managed to land a glancing strike, her teeth marking its tail as it tried to make off with a piece of the leftovers. The thief had dropped his prize in his desperation to escape, but Nayeli was determined to either catch the nuisance, or drive it off so far away that it would not return to their forest. Chasing after the conniving little blur of gingery fur, she sent up a short howl as she left the borders, letting anyone who might be listening know that she planned to be back before too long. Truthfully, she was almost glad for an excuse to go a little further afield this morning - it would have made a pleasant trip, if she were not so irritated by the thievery.

At first it had made for a merry chase, with the dark she-wolf following her quarry like a hound and driving it out, chasing it onward each time it tried to hole itself up somewhere safe. Now, though, the scent had begun to blend in with the aroma of dankness that hung over this part of the Lore, becoming harder to follow. She had long grown used to the dark, foreboding nature that sometimes permeated these forests, but she had not ventured to this particular place before, and more than anything it was the mud that finally brought Nayeli's chase to an end. Her paws squelched as she wove from one sickly lichen-draped tree to the next, avoiding the more treacherous deeper patches of mud and water between them - despite the summer's heat, this place was still marsh-like and oozing. Though Nayeli was nimble and light-footed for her species, the fox was even more so, and in this terrain it had the advantage. She wondered if this might be a long enough chase for even the most intrepid fox - surely after a day like today, the little vagabond would want nothing more to do with the Bend or it's wolves -- or their food. Still, she wanted to make sure it wouldn't be worth the trouble for the vermin to come around again. And so she sent a last, angry snarl over her shoulder as she turned to leave this mire of shadows and cat-tails. If you wish to live, do NOT return!

Her shout rang with the threat as it floated through muddy trunks and grasses. Perhaps the fox could not exactly understand the wolf, but surely it could appreciate the sentiment. Flicking her tail, Nayeli began to pick her way back towards the edge of the swamp, more than eager to have dry land underfoot once more. Something brought her to a halt, though - a hint of another scent, nearly lost among the smells of the fen. Another wolf? On alert once more, she tipped her nose into the humid, still air, trying to find it again. Once again, all she could only detect the mud and pines and sphagnum, and a hint of fox musk. This might not be the Bend's territory, but she knew of no other packs that ought to be around here either - their neighbors resided further north. Most logically, it ought to be a loner, or else someone she would recognize. Lifting her head, she gave a short, sharp call: a warning to whoever else might be lurking about. Either show yourself, or become quite scarce, and quickly. Whatever the case, she was not inclined to skulking about one another in this murky backwater of a place.

Florence Flint Fortibus
Florence had decided to go south this time of the borders, to hunt for herbs but more importantly, to spend time with Vera. He had called @Vera and told her of his idea and as always, she bounded ahead of him cheerfully with a happy whoop at the idea. He had chuckled and followed after her in a more amicable pace, knowing how excited she got when given a new opportunity to explore a new different place, not to mention to spend time with him. They hadn't been able to meet for the pass few weeks either, being kept very busy with the responsibilities of being in a pack, so Florence was grateful they could meet up for this venture. He had missed his little friend and he gathered Vera had as well. They had never been separated for so long and Florence felt guilt at not making time for his little friend. He intended to make it up to her, today

Yet he wasn't prepared for another wolf to call out to them, a warning essentially for the pair to show themselves, though it sounded more like she thought there to be only one of them and not two. He gave a great whuff back in response, both a call to Vera and a answer to the warning, moving through the mud that peppered the land around them. Florence didn't mind getting dirty and besides, mud was easy enough to get off if you knew how.

Moving through the brush that surrounded him, his large bulk was soon revealed to the strange wolf. But as his eyes landed on her, the scent of the pack that was his overwhelmed him and he quickly put together that this was his leader, his mind quickly supplied and he bowed deeply, his chin nearly scraping the ground as he greeted her. The scent of the Oaktree bend pack would be hanging on his own coat, making it clear who he was, even if they had never formally meet before. Even if there had just been a pack hunt, there had been little time to interact with other wolves before or after it. He knew there was more to the greeting but until he was sure she knew where he was from, he din't want to evoke her ire by going to close.

"Greetings, my Lady, I hope my friend and I did not startle you." His voice rumbled respectfully, his ears flickering behind him as he waited for Vera to show herself. He straitened himself up, though making sure to keep a submissive stance with his tail and ears down and his shoulders hunched forward with his head hanging low, to appear smaller. "I do not believe we have formally meet yet. I am Florence, a healer in training."

Vera Corvonic Fortibus

The diminutive ivory she-wolf had felt excitement flood her veins at Florence's call to explore the southern area of Oak Tree Bend's borders, and as usual she had raced ahead of him. The scents of the fen were murky and damp, but she snuffled around for anything unusual nonetheless. It didn't matter if the place wasn't exactly up to great standards, she would explore it anyway. 'Leave no stone unturned' was a favourite motto of hers, and she lived by it, often dragging her larger companion with her in the process. So far she had found nothing but old trails of foxes and for the moment she chose to steer clear of them.

Though she was focusing too intently on her thorough search to hear the call from a foreign wolf, she did hear the warning whuff from Florence and immediately bounded over to his large dark form. She knew that if he senses danger in an unknown place it was better for her to stick close. Vera opened her jaws to ask what he had seen or heard and then closed them again at the sight of a strange wolf. The other female was larger than her (then again, who wasn't?) and sported a dark brown and black coat with light brown mixed throughout. A sliver of white broke on her forehead and her silver eyes the dark look she had, and Vera pressed herself against Florence's leg, even though she did smell the scent of Oak Tree Bend on the female. She didn't trust anyone, especially when Florence was with her.

When her larger companion bowed down lowly to the ground, she glanced at him for a moment before hesitantly doing the same. He almost always knew what he was doing, so she often copied what he did. After he introduced himself, the diminutive ivory she-wolf glanced up at the dark female, caution and mistrust in her eyes and stance, although she did hold herself respectfully low. "I'm Vera," she spoke softly, lowering her eyes to the ground.

Sorry about this taking so dang long. D:

In the darkest shadows we find the brightest parts of ourselves

Moments passed in silence, and the she-wolf was ready to be moving on. She started off once more at a slow pace, taking the time to navigate around the worst of the puddles of mud and muck. Her ears flicked back and forth constantly as she moved, and her muzzle was tipped into the air, testing - but the scent of the swamp seemed to cloak and distort everything, both smells and sounds.

It was not until another wolf quite literally appeared before her, that her steps halted again. Now that he was closer, Nayeli recognized the male as one of the newest members of the Bend. Moments later, he was followed by a diminutive she-wolf, another of their new recruits. As the male bowed, Nayeli stepped towards the pair, and as the words left the male's mouth, she gave them a nod of greeting, but a small shake of her head as well. The words "my Lady" rang oddly in her ears. The title was something she didn't think she could ever find herself growing used to.

"Please, just Nayeli is fine. And there's no need to apologize - It's a pleasure to get to know our new arrivals better. I hope I didn;t startle you, either." She looked from one to the other, a gentle sway in the motion of her tail. The male, Florence, seemed outgoing and respectful, rather gentlemanly even. The female, on the other hand, had a distrustful look in her eye, though she kept her display respectful as well. Nayeli gave a small frown, hoping that the girl wouldn't be so suspicious of all her new pack-mates. It seemed these two had arrived together, but if the girl wanted to be a part of the pack, she would need to expand her social circle and develop trust in the rest of them, and they in her.

Returning her attention to the male, she opened her jaws to speak again. "You're a healer in training, eh? Well, we're certainly in need of a healer, there's no doubt in that." She wondered how skilled he was, and how he intended to continue his 'training' without another healer in the pack to teach him. Was it a skill one could learn on their own? Nayeli knew little of healing and herb lore, but any knowledge was better than none, she supposed. "Is that what brings the two of you out here today?" This place might be stinking and muddy, but it did boast quite the variety of odd plant life.
