Kay's ghostly form slid among the fog covered forest. The trees were close together and ever once in a while he slid between two that were so close that his fur brushed both of them. He had been searching for something entertaining to keep his mind off his past. It was rather hard seeing as he was alone and all. Pausing he snapped his fangs with a sharp click of annoyance. The first night he had come here the wolves in the area had sung their songs and now they were silent. He didn't know if it was because the thick forest around him was blocking the sound or if it was the fog either way he was bored and when he was bored his thoughts always went back to the past.

Letting out a growl the ghostly male tipped his head back to glare at the thick branches above him before letting out a bold howl letting anyone in the area know that he was there. Finished he began to move once more not bothering to listen and see if anyone responded or not. They knew he was in the area now and if they wanted to meet they could come and find his ghostly form among the pale fog. A feral grin spread across Kay's black lips as he wondered what would happen if someone came to find him. A chuckle spilled past his ivory fangs. Oh yes he would have an interesting time then, but only if they could find him.

Esper
Silently the fae sifted through the trees of the unfamiliar forest, dodging the lower branches that always seemed to creep and lick the top of her ears. She was completely alone. Just the way she liked it. No one to irritate her or pry, or the annoying, curious creatures who always seemed to take interest in her, even though she had none in them. Esper was a wolf of pride. Oddly, she had a lot for a wolf of her status, she was in fact not in any pack and not interested in being in one. But her pride was mostly kept to herself, just because of the fact she kept to herself. Others always irked her.

Packs always seem to constantly trust each other, what is that? Did they not realize the only way to survive was to trust yourself? Wolves. Dumb creatures.

She let the thought go, she was alone. Nothing to worry about here.
The fog was sweeping over the forest like a blanket; the temperature was dropping rapidly as the mere afternoon was awakening the night. She enjoyed the chill on her nose, the white puff that came from her breath, even the fog caressing her ankles as she veered through the woods. She was so swift in her movements that she was rarely caught off guard. She did not in particularly like to be the one "catching" another off guard, either.

Then an unfamiliar scent caught her attention: a brute.

Kay laughed softly as he paused. He didn't know why he did it he just felt like laughing so he did. His ears pricked as he listened quietly. He had thought that maybe he had heard something. A paw on the snow perhaps? Had someone actually come to find him? His thoughts were full of questions as his golden gaze swept across the trees and fog in front of him. The fog was rather annoying as if twisted this way and that like a living being, hiding the movements of those that were actually alive. Still he remained silent like snow sculpture only his eyes moved and the brief twitching of his ears. No one like to be surprised especially him. After a few tense moments he shrugged before he began to pad away once more. He hadn't seen or heard anything so it could have been some random bird making the noise.

He was about to go find a spot to rest when a scent floated to him. Twisting his head sharply he looked in its direction, or rather the direction he had come. Gold eyes narrowed and a snarl played on his face. Another wolf was in the area. Turning himself around he began to stalk forward searching for the one that he had smelled. Did they think that they could stalk him without him noticing? Of course he had been looking for something entertaining. The thought had him pausing a grin took the place of the snarl. Settling himself down among the fog he decided that he would wait and see if whoever was out there was stalking him and if not then he would go stalk them. Plan decided he was content to wait and see and like a rubber band ready to snap he watched the forest around him.

Esper
Hearing the growl startled Esper, whoever they were, they knew she was there. With ears erect on the crown of her head, she started making her way into the deeper part of the wood. She was never in the mood for introducing herself, and they had rudely ruined her time being hidden.

A snort came from the inside of her chest that riveted through her.

She wouldn't let some stray ruin her day.

Whoever it is..sure has guts. Growling while being by himself, not knowing what could be coming their way...fool.

Her thoughts encompassed her mind as she questioned why one would make themselves known when they should be enjoying their time being hidden from the world. Wolves baffled her most of the time. She couldn't wrap her mind around being related to them. How could she be, especially to such idiotic creatures? She was far more intelligent than most. She was far superior than most. At least she believed herself to be. Despite her rank or her size she never seemed to have a problem avoiding conflict simply because she never allowed herself to get close enough to have any.

Esper's thoughts were interrupted by the smell of the brute getting closer. Tilting her head to the direction of the horrific smell of testosterone, she blinked slowly, cautiously turning to face the direction of where the wolf was coming from. She wouldn't let them get too close of course, but was he trying to play hide and seek? Annoyance overwhelmed her. If the brute wanted to be made known, why was he hiding? If he was like her--and most weren't-- and didn't particularly want to be made known, why was he coming closer?

Her ears twitched. Nothing.. But the smell was still overpowering..he had stopped. He was waiting for her.

Well, he'll just have to keep waiting then.

As the ghostly male waited he realized that the scent he was smelling was feminine. He wasn't sure if he should be surprised or not. He hadn't come across any others since he had left his birth pack and the she-wolves their had scorned him even going so far as to gang up on him. His lips silently curled up to bare fangs. Other than those painful experiences he had nothing else to say about them. They seemed to hate his guts on site. It annoyed him that they always seemed to hate him the most when he did nothing to earn it. Then he went about making sure that they kept on hating him.

Silence greeted him suddenly and his ears went forward sharply. Had this she-wolf stopped? She most have he concluded. Even in his frustration and annoyance Kay remained silent and still. Patiently waiting and waiting some more wondering when she would either come forward or turn and try to leave. Either way they would meet by her finding him or by him finding her. What would he do when the two of them met? Should he try and pick a fight? He did love to fight or should he save his strength and annoy her? Annoying was good of course he could always just be the sweet little boy he had been as a child. Someone everyone trusted and then they didn't. He hated to act like that but if he must then he would. Of course he would make his final decision until after the she-wolf decided what she was going to do and only then would he decide as well.

His pink tongue slid out and swiped his muzzle as he waited. Oh, he wanted the games to begin but patience was key and first his 'opponent' had to make her move before he could make his. It was the way he wanted to play it and those that was how it was going to be played.

Silence.

Esper's patience was dissipating. The male's stench still overwhelmed her nostrils, but apparently he was not making a first move....or his move was to simply stay where he was. Oddly though, he was by himself..or from what she could make sense of it. She didn't often come around other loners, especially since she normally encompassed pack territories. Curiosity slightly overtook her.

Who exactly was he?...Was he, in fact, alone? Like her?...If he was...what had he done to give himself that title? Or had he simply chosen it... or been forced to choose it..Was he too, liking to be hidden and waiting for whatever was to come?

Captivated by her thoughts, she sat on her rump, puzzled. She normally didn't have much interest in others...actually ever..especially males. Male's always seemed to prove her right on how self-centered and obnoxious they could be, especially when they took interest in her, which was all too often. However, this one..was surprising her. She couldn't pin point why this wolf in particular made her curious, but he sure as hell did.

Her thoughts were interrupted as a deer family ran by, allowing her stomach speak and her mouth water. She licked her lips, letting the smell of sustenance overcome her, her eyes closed as she flashed a toothy grin, dinner. The male completely disappeared from her mind as she took off after a yearling. She moved swiftly through the trees, letting her meager paws hit the ground hard as she ran, just to allow the idea of fear creep to the young, unfortunate deer she had in her sight. Panting loudly, Esper clawed the ground gaining on the youngster, she let her jaw snap on the left back thigh while the deer came crashing down, screaming in horror.

Dinner, is served.

She hunkered down as she clasped the neck of the deer, squeezing the life from it's eyes. Then gently, she licked her fresh meal, savoring every taste.

Kay was getting slightly bored just laying there waiting but he was trying to be patient for the female to decide if she was going to try and find him or not. He was just about to consider trying to get closer when he heard a ruckus. His head shot up and he stared into the fog. Large forms rushed past and he jumped aside as one nearly ran into him. He snarled at its fleeing form. What the heck? The scent of deer clogged his nose and he grumbled in annoyance. He could have tried to catch one if he hadn't been surprised by their sudden entrance and the fact that he had been paying attention to the she-wolf that he had been stalking.

Shaking himself he walked over to were the female had been just recently. Staring at the tracks he loped off following them. The scent of blood met his nose and his stomach gurgled in delight, before the sound of a sudden scream pierced the air before ending sharply. He shook his head at himself. Looks like the female had been able to bring down one of the fleeing deer. Stopping to look in the direction that they had come from a thought formed in his head. What had they been running from? His hackles rose as he stared. Another wolf perhaps? Maybe a mountain lion? He didn't know but then even a strange scent could have set them off towards the two wolves.

Giving the area a good once over he continued his tracking. Slowing as the scent of fresh meat became stronger he paused next to a tree finally getting his first look at the other wolf. A pale wolf like him the female was more cream than white but she displayed some grays. He couldn't quite tell but he thought that he might be larger than her but it from this distance he wasn't sure. Sitting he watched her for a moment. Should he interrupt her meal? She wouldn't be able to eat it all herself anyway. Deciding he would watch for now he sat still his ears pricked forward with interest wondering what she would do when she finally noticed him.

Esper

Esper was too indulged in her meal to notice anyone in her presence. Feeling grubby, Esper's tongue brushed her tough fur as she gnawed away the dried blood on her paws. One thing that she hated more than anything was the feeling of filthiness. Next was her muzzle. She dug her muzzle into her paws as she awkwardly tried to lick around it. Noticing how silly she felt, she chuckled as she cleansed herself the best she could.

She really hadn't even made a dent on the deer, the carcass sat in front of her and started to collect flies, that annoyingly circled her large ears.  She let out a small yip as she shook her head to the side hoping for the flies to "buzz off". Her tail lightly swished the ground portraying her tranquil mood, although irritated by the flies, the girl was happy and full. The day was rounding to an end, and the animals of the day were hiding from the animals of the night. The cool breeze trickled up her spine as she watched the sun envelope behind the pines.

Do you ever get the feeling...that someone's watching you?

Esper couldn't help but feel the uneasiness sweep over her as the darkness was settling over the woods. Her nose was stopped up with the scent of the deer lying stiff in front of her, so she had no way of telling the smell of the uninvited guest. The darkness came faster than comfortable, and she had never had the best way of seeing in the dark anyway. The only thing she could do was listen. Her ears pricked up, her face turned toward the brush of where she had came, was that...breathing?

Perturbed she got up, bending her head, she squinted through the darkness, alert to any sign of movement. Her lips curled back revealing her white, glittering teeth as she felt there was nothing else to do. She could stand her ground if needed, but her real strength lied in her speed. Without moving her head, she scanned the area, as best she could, seeking ways of escape..just in case. Whatever was out there...probably wasn't there to invite her into their loving arms...no..whoever was out there..was probably out for the kill.

She snorted, she wasn't going to let this one scare her. Lifting her head she glared into the darkness, and spoke through her teeth,

Come forward.

It seemed to the ghostly male that the she-wolf was so focused on her meal that she didn't notice him. His gold eyes narrowed as he watched her eat. One had to be especially careful when you just made a kill, because other predators might have noticed the brief scuffle and might come to see if they could get a bite out of it. Glancing up into the tree tops he caught sight of a couple of crows he hoped that they wouldn't attract anything to the site it was more fun to deal with another wolf when you weren't worried about a cougar coming up and trying to kill you. His gaze slid back to the pale stranger and he noticed that she seemed to becoming tense. A feral grin spread on his face. Finally noticing your not alone? He would have laughed but held his peace as she snorted before speaking her voice tense.

Kay did laugh then but softly as he stood. Did you finally realize that you weren't alone? He asked his voice sarcastically sweet. He wasn't sure how this little game was going to play out and he didn't know how the wolf in front of him was going to act. Heck he didn't even know how he was going to act. Walking forward he got close enough that they could both see each other clearly before stopping to watch her. At the moment he held no aggression but that could change in a heartbeat should the she-wolf try and dominate him. For some reason he wanted her to try. His eyes hardened but then the two of them could have a peaceful conversation as well. Maybe.
