The end of breeding season was coming to a close, and the dark king was thankful. He had no problem with cooling the fire within his queen, relieving her ache, but unfortunately she was not the only woman in the pack. Her perfume called to him, but the other women held a certain scent as well and in no way were they a temptation, but an annoyance. Thankfully his female subordinates didn't try to get to him or any of the males under his rule. It was against the laws of the pack, after all, and Miccah was a taken man. In all reality, they were even tempered albeit a little frustrated. Nevertheless, the man was tired of evading the constant stench in his lands and decided it was time for a temporary break away from his borders.

Heading towards the the quiet springs near his territory, the man quietly walked toward the source of water. Breathing deep the clean, fresh air around him, Miccah sat for a few moments to enjoy the silence. He was a solitary creature, and had been craving the peace he found here that he hadn't been able to find in his own lands. Letting the peace be a soothing balm to his restless soul, the Woodlands king bent his head for a drink.

Drestig Avalon

The heat was growing noticeable, seeping underneath not-quite-shed fur and bringing already heated wolves to a boil. Now this was always an antsy season, no one knew that better than Drestig, though this year his situation was quite a lot different from the last couple. As any mature male, he felt the effects in his own body, and even more, he scented them on his travelling partner. This of course brought forth a whole host of speculations, enough to add a headache to the host of irritations already induced by the weather. Hot and irritable, he'd sought out the water to soothe at least some of his woes, stepping into the shallows at the springs' edge to cool his paws. It was a small comfort, but at least for now it helped get his mind on other things.

Mainly the dark figure that soon appeared a ways further down the bank, lowering his head to drink. Sleek, black fur covered a large, burly frame, creating a rather unforgettable silhouette. Drestig tilted his head, lips pursed for a moment in thought. Then, slowly starting to wade through the low water, he called out: "Gent?" Wasn't it just his luck to run into the young man again? Though it did fit well with the direction of his pack; If I'm not wrong.

As another wolf arrived, Miccah raised his head minutely to eye the individual briefly before continuing to take his drink. It wasn't until the man waded into the water that he received Miccah's undivided attention. Was this man a fisher? Or was he thinking of something...a little more sinister? The dark king was not an easy man to befriend, and he was not one to trust strangers at the first kind word. With the man's inquiry though, Miccah raised his blue gaze and focused on the stranger. How did this man know Gent? Maybe this encounter could prove to be beneficial to the dark king, after all. "I have heard that we do look similar," the guardian rumbled neutrally as he too waded slowly into the water.

"Miccah," he continued. That was all the information this man would receive, at least for now. Now, what really had him curious, was his connection to Gent. He was a friend of Nina's, and the Woodlands matriarch seemed to trust him, and because of that was the exact reason Miccah needed to know more about him. One day, he would go to the source, but for now, the Woodlands alpha would gleam whatever information he could from the man before him. Slowly, he would piece together the puzzle that was Gent Lieris.

Drestig Avalon

Drestig kept his approach slow, casual, leaving plenty of time and room for the other to survey him. His head hung low, nose only inches above the water, as if he might stop to have a drink himself, though for now he was simply enjoying the slightly cooler air at the surface. The prospect of talking to the @Gent again was surprisingly welcome, despite the bumps doing their first meeting, the graying chap had not found him entirely unpleasant, and perhaps they'd do better without that hot head fire-pelt as a third party.

But as he came closer, Drestig was surprised to discover that this was not the young leader at all, but another wolf of similar looks. This caused the elder man to pause, head lifting slightly as the stranger raised his own, regarding him neutrally. The resemblance was striking, the pelt might have a slightly different sheen, the eyes a deeper hue, but the build was similar, and while this male looked like he could be a bit older, it wasn't by much. As he came a little closer, stepping out into the water, Drestig offered a small, crocked smile, giving a sheepish shrug of his shoulders. "My mistake, apologies," He said slickly, nodding his head faintly as a gesture of excuse.

The introduction was followed with another nod, and his own: "Drestig." While he focused on this Miccah's scent, noting that, though it was indeed different from Gent's, it bore the distinct markers of pack. And, he realized, brows lifting, not an unfamiliar pack either. "The Woodlands," He drawled, the lightness of surprise in his voice. Those thicket wolves sure did get around; Hopefully he didn't bring FIRE-PELT @Ash! The silvered man suppressed an urge to look around for the brute, instead lifting his ember gaze to meet the larger male's sapphire's. It was interesting to come across a Woodlander up here, on what would likely be closer to Gent's turf, as he'd discerned quite a bit of tension between the two groups in their meeting in the Fields. Smiling to himself, Drestig hid his churning thoughts, settling for a simple statement to start out: "A ways from home, aren't you?"

At least this wolf had manners, and the dark king took the apology in stride. There was no harm done, and everything was good. Until the man came a little closer and mentioned something that definitely peaked Miccah's interest. So this Drestig knew not only of Gent, but also of the Woodlands? What else did he know? It didn't really sit well in the guardian's stomach, but he at least needed to make the effort to be friendly even though now he felt anything but.

Maybe this man didn't really mean any harm, but Miccah sure wanted to get more information out of him. "A bit," he rumbled neutrally, his blue gaze just a little warmer. "Yourself?" Where did this man come from? How had he come to know Gent? How had he come to know of the Woodlands? But he had probably come to know of the thicket pack through word of mouth - Nina seemed to be pretty well known around the Lore it seemed. But by scent alone? Had he encountered somebody from the pack? Too many questions and too little time. He would see how much information this man was willing to give him, and see if by the end of this meeting if this man was a possible friend or foe.

Drestig Avalon

Not much of a talker it seemed, this dark Woodlander, and his neutral answer reminded Drestig annoyingly of his encounter in the Fields. He might have only heard of his similarity to Gent, but it seemed they had more in common than just looks; I bet they'd make great friends! The graying man snickered to himself, watching this Miccah with a glint in his ember eyes. Reticent with information and quick with questions, just a hint of distrust in that steely blue gaze; He must feel quite at home with @Ash! But Drestig didn't let himself get agitated, not yet at least. Instead he looked over the dark brute, lifting a brow ever so slightly, a lazy smile settling on his face. "That depends on your perspective, I suppose," He answered slickly; Two can play at this game!

Of course, conversation would hardly get anywhere if they both maintained the role of tight-lipped. So Drestig gave his head a casual roll, taking the few steps onto the bank, to be free of the water. He took his time, moving slowly and shaking his paws dry one at a time, all the while keeping his eyes on what he was doing, rather than the other wolf. When finally he did turn back to Miccah, standing squarely on the shore, the tip of his tail oscillating slowly at his hocks, his expression was unmoved, like he'd never looked away. Speaking in drawling tone, like he was more musing to himself than anything else, he disclosed: "I'm sort of in between homes at the moment." Then he cocked a brow at the other, looking at him expectantly; Alright, your turn.

The dark king's muzzle quirked briefly as he received the man's answer, as vague as his own. Hm, so it seemed it would be harder to get information from this man than he thought, for he was clearly no naive newcomer ready to provide information about everything and anything. This was bound to be interesting.

Miccah watched Drestig move away from the water, taking his time to truly answer the former guardian's question. A slight flicker of annoyance lit within the man for he was not used to others wasting his time when he called for their attention. However, the king made quick work in reminding himself that this man was not his subordinate and trusted pack mate. Though, Miccah admitted to himself they would get nowhere if he continued this game of vague sharing. It seemed the other man had the same thoughts. Still not the specific answer Miccah had hoped for, but it was something. So, Miccah would reciprocate. Nodding at his words, the large man took a few moments to step out of the water and slowly begin his way towards the other dark male, his tail waving neutrally in the breeze. When he was a few wolf lengths away from him, Miccah finally rumbled his thoughts. "I see. Is that how you came to know of not only Gent, but of my pack?" Was Drestig searching for a new home? Now, Miccah was even more curious. But...since he had gotten closer to him he could also smell the scents on his coat. It seemed Drestig was not travelling alone. Miccah had extended his olive branch, now it was time to see if Drestig too would divulge more information so Miccah could finally piece this puzzle...and possibly continue this interesting exchange. His blue gaze never wavering from the man before him, Miccah patiently waited for his answer.
